We’re hoping to get away for half term to Scotland, we’re thinking somewhere with amazing views. I don’t know where to start, it’s so big! Somewhere on the coast would be lovely or views of mountains? Any help would be great

Thanks Smile

Everywhere in Scotland is gorgeous.

I live near Loch Lomond, which has fabulous views.

Wishingforanotherlife · 10/09/2020 16:36

West coast is sublime but more prone to rain and midges, but oh the beaches, the colour of the sea. East coast drier and colder and beautiful in a different way. I always think Aviemore is a good start, it's got mountains, lochs, even a beach at Loch Morlich. Lots of outdoor things to do. If it's jaw dropping grandeur you're after then Arisaig for beaches, Skye for majesty, the outer hebrides for utter wonderment. I'm Scottish and been pretty much everywhere - ask me anything. And welcome to you and yours. And if you've time visit Glasgow.

The East Neuk of Fife (Elie, Pittenweem, Crail etc) is beautiful. Lovely wee coastal villages and harbours. Probably getting pretty chilly now but likely to be drier than the west coast!

Skye is unbelievably gorgeous, always.

Skye, Portree

AuntyMabelandPippin · 10/09/2020 16:54

@Wishingforanotherlife No midges in October, they're all gone.

Spaghettio · 10/09/2020 16:55

We are big fans of North Berwick. You've got the sea, a harbour, a hill to climb, boat trips to islands, and a lovely little town to meander about. Also easy to get to and not miles from everywhere.

ZeldaSmelda · 10/09/2020 16:56

Thanks everyone!! We’ll be coming from the midlands but we don’t mind driving anywhere really. We’re thinking of doing the first night in Glasgow then 4 nights somewhere spectacular. I’ve family in Scotland but they’re near the border and I haven’t ever been past Edinburgh so I just want somewhere that’ll take my breath away. I’ll have a look at the places you’ve suggested

AuntyMabelandPippin · 10/09/2020 17:22

As @Spaghettio says, North Berwick is absolutely gorgeous, if you want a beach. Been there a couple of times.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 10/09/2020 17:24

We loved Stonehaven. The castle is stunning, there is the world's best fish and chip shop on the beach.

Ricekrispie22 · 10/09/2020 17:26

Glen Nevis is amazing www.glen-nevis.co.uk
Lagnakeil Lodges lagnakeil.co.uk

SBTLove · 10/09/2020 17:27

We are going to Oban & Mull, we live in Scotland and love all our beautiful places.

Wishingforanotherlife · 10/09/2020 17:31

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz I second that about the Stonehaven chippy - it is magnificent. And a lovely outdoor pool too though it'll be closed :(

MaidenMotherCrone · 10/09/2020 17:33

Ardmaddy Castle about 20 mins from Oban. It's a private estate. Once you've been you will always go back. It has it all! By the bucketload.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 10/09/2020 17:33

Newtonmore is also lovely.

EstherLittle · 10/09/2020 17:34

Ayrshire is lovely. Culzean Castle is great especially if you have National Trust membership.

Glasgow is awesome. So many lovely places to eat.

FelicityPike · 10/09/2020 17:35

Glencoe is beautiful.

OllyBJolly · 10/09/2020 17:35

I'd echo @Wishingforanotherlife although I'd also add Plockton and Ullapool. (and if you have a strong stomach for the highest road in the UK I'd add Applecross)

ZeldaSmelda · 12/09/2020 09:26

Thank you everyone, we have booked a Airbnb near fort William in a beautiful loch. Can’t wait Flowers

I love in Scotland and holiday here a lot because I love a lot of outdoor sports/ activities/ my recommendations would be:

Achiltibuie/ summer isles area
Applecross/ Torridon area
Tarbert/ Gigha/ Portavadie area
Islay, Jura and Colonsay

I just came back yesterday from a trip that took in Tarbert, Gigha, Islay and Jura. Just stunning.

MorrisZapp · 12/09/2020 09:30

Arran, an island off the west coast, is heaven on earth. Lamlash Bay looking over the Holy Isle is my absolute happy place. From the moment you step on the ferry, it's magical. Unlike other parts of Scotland, it can't be overwhelmed with staycationers because there's no road in and out.

PARunnerGirl · 12/09/2020 09:30

Sorry! I see you’ve booked already 👍🏼

PARunnerGirl · 12/09/2020 09:31

@MorrisZapp We’ve got Arran booked for the end of the month. Another favourite place of mine 😍

Wbeezer · 12/09/2020 09:33

I'd second recommendations for Mull, quieter than Skye, the ferry is fun. Side trip to Iona from Mull for lovely beaches. Tobermory is cute. Duart Castle is great. Drive from Oban to Glasgow is scenic and straightforward.
