Can anyone recommend any really nice spots in Scotland?

We’re hoping to get away for half term to Scotland, we’re thinking somewhere with amazing views. I don’t know where to start, it’s so big! Somewhere on the coast would be lovely or views of mountains? Any help would be great

Thanks Smile
@MorrisZapp We’ve got Arran booked for the end of the month. Another favourite place of mine 😍
Well prepare to hate my guts because my dad has a static caravan there 😍😍 I love to puddle about in Lamlash and Brodick but some weirdos prefer the other wee places on the island.

One very easy win is eating your meal deal at the picnic table outside Brodick Co-op. I mean come on. That view and a sandwich, it makes you feel sorry for the saps paying to sit in restaurants.

Families with resources behind them will LOVE The Auchrannie, another world class gem. Tbf, you just can't go wrong. It's all just ace.

@AuntyMabelandPippin

Everywhere in Scotland is gorgeous.

I live near Loch Lomond, which has fabulous views.

Oh that must be lovely! We've just been to Loch Long, it was beautiful 😍
PARunnerGirl · 12/09/2020 10:10

@MorrisZapp Ah I love a Scottish caravan. 😁 Supreme coziness! My boyfriend’s dad has one on Loch Earn and we spent two nights at the start of this week‘a break there. Yes, definitely looking forward to getting back to Arran. Such a great chill-out vibe.

You’re going to have the best drive going to Fort William! The road through Glencoe is spectacular, over Rannoch Moor and through Ballachulish. Have a great holiday!

Every island every coastal town here is mobbed right now, chaos with staycationers and visitors, including Arran. So as long as you are prepared for the bustle you will have a wonderful trip. Enjoy 🌺

I agree with this. The Arran ferry is the busiest it’s ever been.
PARunnerGirl · 12/09/2020 11:53

@BlueThistles Islay seemed very quiet this week. It was a welcome surprise. Sometimes struggled to get in somewhere for dinner or lunch but I think that was more to do with the fact a few businesses have given up for the season and the others having much fewer tables.

BlueThistles · 12/09/2020 12:16

it might have eased off with schools going back. We are still struggling to get to our many beaches, with camper vans and cars lining the fields as the car parks full.

Property is flying off the shelves too, Ive never seen anything like it 🌺

BlueThistles · 12/09/2020 12:20

Islay is beautiful, I was working up there recently 🌺

Whatever you do, make sure you go through Glencoe.

Aviemore area.

Can only assume you've never been to Bellshill, Airdrie, Motherwell, Harthill, Livingston, Paisley, Greenock, etc etc

In case I get accused of speaking ill of the Central Belt and Ayrshire, I'll add that Fraserburgh, Peterhead, Wick, and many of the former mining towns in Lothian and the Borders are also complete middens. Eust Neuk is lovely, but I defy anybody to come up with anything endearing about the places five minutes up the road. Cardenden, Glenrothes, Cowndenbeath, Ballingry, Lochgelly, all absolute tips.

East Kilbride though Shock

pisspants · 12/09/2020 16:23

yes the drive through Glencoe is something to behold. If you get the chance then drive over to Arisaig from Fort William on a sunny day and take the scenic route to Mallaig to see the most gorgeous Caribbean type beaches- pure white coral sand and turquoise sea.
From Fort William do the drive up to Kyle of Lochalsh as well which is one of the most beautiful journeys I have ever done in my life.

With you on Peterhead . I live six miles away. It’s a very interesting place for all the wrong reasons ... Fraserburgh too . Never was I more amazed than when an Aussie flatmate told me her parents biggest desire was to see Peterhead Harbour . They flew thousands of miles for that . Never understood why !!

Bloody East Kilbride!! I mean it’s got its good points - Museum of Rural Life, Calderglen, James Hamilton Park - but all the roundabouts. Jesus Christ. More roundabouts than people.

Don’t forget Leven...

I've worked in 3 of these places and they're not beauty spots but the people that live there are funny and generous. I'll not have you dissing them

RaraRachael · 12/09/2020 17:52

The Moray coast is lovely with nice countryside too. Plenty of things for all ages to see and do. The climate is much drier than the west coast and there are no midges Grin

It's a nice secret as it's quite overlooked as people tend to head to the highlands, islands and west coast.

optimisticpessimist01 · 12/09/2020 17:54

Aviemore is stunning

TSSDNCOP · 12/09/2020 18:25

I wouldn't go to Inverness. It's where everyone in the SE is being sent for their CV19 test as apparently there are zero slots South of Hadrians Wall. Could be a bit crowded Grin

Tralee bay near Oban. My family has been going to this location for almost 50 years. It was plain caravans and tents when we started. The beach is beautiful, the village is quiet but with good hikes and stuff close by. Only 1/2 hour outside Oban and there is plenty to do and OH MY GOD the scenery, truly Gods country. Ive been gone for over 30 years now but my parents continued to go right up till they died and my brother and his family still go every chance they have

H1978 · 12/09/2020 19:29

Glencoe is beautiful.
