I have just bought some croissant rolls. What do you put in yours?

I feel like they should have something a bit extra in them.

Butter and homemade chunky orange marmalade

DaphneFanshaw · 09/09/2020 20:14

OMFG.
I am having these at the weekend.
Totally not gonna bother with any sort of classy filling, going with bacon, egg and cheese, bit of black pepper.

DaphneFanshaw · 09/09/2020 20:14

@bananamonkey

Our local bakery used to do sausage crolls, I miss them so much Sad
Missh07 · 09/09/2020 20:15

Got to be ham and cheese hasn't it?

Seafog · 09/09/2020 20:18

Smoked salmon, filled cucumber slices, a slice of tomato and a dab of creme fraiche

CarolVordermansArse · 09/09/2020 20:18

Lidl have 'launched' them - not far enough I suspect.

Baked goods have gone badly downhill in the last few years, bread made with pea flour and palm oil, croissants made with palm oil instead of butter, Greggs shite ...

Warm with butter and strawberry jam

GorillaManilla · 09/09/2020 20:25

Cheese and prosciutto

Tartyflette · 09/09/2020 20:31

Fyi, Marks and Spencer do cronuts in their open bakery section. (i.e - not in the 'wrapped' wrapped bakery goods like packs of rolls. But of course these days everything is put into individual bags. )
Two flavours, one plain generously glazed, one fancy with a caramel and digestive biscuit crumb topping.
You can thank me later. 😋

AdaColeman · 09/09/2020 20:31

Cream cheese with apricot or black cherry jam.
If you’re heating them, tuck some marzipan inside first, instant almond croissants!

Feelinggoodtuesday · 09/09/2020 20:35

I need to get involved with crolls! I feel a massive Aldi visit coming on!

Feelinggoodtuesday · 09/09/2020 20:35

And cronuts! Brilliant

Duffmcstockings · 09/09/2020 21:32

Hmmm. I thought sweet. Me and Dd are now considering a sweet/savoury off.

OP posts:
Duffmcstockings · 09/09/2020 21:40

Sweet/savoury off is now on. In the sweet corner we have butter and jam. In the savoury corner smoked salmon and philly.
Honestly the buns smell very sweet like brioche, which is kind of a disappointment.

LynetteScavo · 09/09/2020 21:42

For anyone who thinks these are just croissants they are not just croissants. They are not even just croissants in a different shape.

They are Aldi crolls, yes, CROLLS and taste so much better then any croissant you'll find in any supermarket.
I put butter and home made plum jam in mine. Bloody amazing.

Duffmcstockings · 09/09/2020 21:48

Sweet was better than savoury. But come the weekend, it's the bacon trials.

Bellabatwings · 09/09/2020 22:42

Ah, crolls!
They are superb! Once eaten i doubt anyone will go back to croissants!

This thread is full of amazing ideas. Last time
I bought some I just dipped them in coffee. Next time I am going extra...

Bluesheep8 · 10/09/2020 10:53

Croissant literally means 'crescent' in French doesn't it?? That ain't no crescent!!

That's one of its meanings...it also comes from the French verb 'croissir' meaning 'to grow' due to the extent by which the dough increases in size when baked. So techically, thrse can still be calked croissants.....I just knew my French a level would come in handy one day!
And I really want one of those warm with proper butter and apricot jam

Bluesheep8 · 10/09/2020 10:53

called

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 10/09/2020 10:56

I have scrambled egg and spinach in mine. Bloody yum.
