Prompted by learning that the new president of the Royal Horticultural Society is Keith Weed, I got to thinking about other surnames that are appropriate to the persons occupation or station in life.
When my son was in secondary school the RE teachers were Mrs Dove and Mrs Furness.
Any more?

@baumwolle

Igor Judge, former lord chief justice
When I was a child I used think it was a great coincidence how many judges had the first name "justice". As in Mr/Mrs/Ms Justice xxx or Lord/Lady Justice xxx. Grin

Paul Nurse won the 2001 Nobel Prize for physiology or medicine. He is a geneticist, not an actual nurse but it is still cool.

SedentaryCat · 08/09/2020 08:40

I had a dentist a few years ago called Mr Payne. Apt Grin

Sorry to derail the thread but this reminds me of a conversation I had with my late MIL, who had dementia.

Me: Which doctor did you speak to?
MIL: Dr Piss
Me: What, actually Dr Piss?
MIL: Yes!

DH and I then spent a happy few hours thinking up consultants names based on their specialism - Dr Marbles the psychiatrist, Dr Onions the liver specialist, etc, etc.

Turned out Dr Piss was really called Dr Bisch!

Nominative determinism seems rife among medics - DM knew Drs Body, Blood and Bones, we've also come across Butcher, Cutting and Mr Carver (a surgeon).

my mother's surname was Cook and her profession was a chef. This was in Denmark so the words are the same and I as a child recall her on the phone many times going my name is.. xxx Cook and profession is also Cook. She never tired of it either she enjoyed it and I suspect why she never changed back to her birth name after my parents divorce.

Enko · 08/09/2020 09:36

PaternosterLoft · 08/09/2020 09:43
