Appropriate surnames

Prompted by learning that the new president of the Royal Horticultural Society is Keith Weed, I got to thinking about other surnames that are appropriate to the persons occupation or station in life.
When my son was in secondary school the RE teachers were Mrs Dove and Mrs Furness.
Any more?

Dammit, I was so hoping someone on mumsnet had been taught by my parent, my maiden name is mathematical and my parent taught maths. Very outing as it's unusual, so I'm not saying it.

I was taught geography by Mrs Holland.

I know there was someone else but I really cant remember my other teacher's names.

There are some brilliant examples here Grin I'm especially loving Phil Knowles the builder.

I thought for a moment the surname was "Mathematical". A very unusual surname, that!

Dilbertian · 09/09/2020 07:21

Headmaster (as it was in those days) of a local school: Mr Brilliant. I sent a photo of the board outside the school to That's Life, but I don't think it made it onto the show. Nonetheless it continued to amuse me every time I walked past.

toomanypillows · 09/09/2020 07:26

There was a vicar at the church my mum used to go to called Faith Christian. Reverend Christian 😁

I'm also friends with an actor whose real surname is Stagey. He goes by a different surname professionally so has a "stage name" instead which always makes me laugh.

My friend is a dog walker and she met her (now) husband 2 years ago in a park - his surname is Hound. As is hers now

toomanypillows · 09/09/2020 07:28

I've got another one. DS's school have just hired a new teacher to take their new T Level in Childcare and her name is L'Enfant

Sunbird24 · 09/09/2020 07:29

I used to know a guy in the RAF whose last name was Major, he was a Sergeant when I knew him. Guess he should have joined the Army really, then he could have got to be Major Major as well

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 09/09/2020 07:38

My food tech teacher was Mrs Crumbs and my brother was in the local rowing club, his instructor was Mr Rowbottom.

BikeRunSki · 09/09/2020 07:56

There is a podiatrist in Plymouth called Tony Achilles, which is just the best complete name for the holder’s occupation ever.

KeepSmiling89 · 09/09/2020 07:57

I had a home economics teacher called Mrs Pini

Rowenberryjelly · 09/09/2020 09:14

It's called nominative determination when someone's name matches their career.

I have come across a study on parakeets with one of the authors a Dr. Parrot which made me smile.
