Are feature walls tacky now? At any rate, what colour is yours?

For reasons that made sense at the time, we painted our living room chimney breast an almost imperceptibly yellower shade of cream than the rest of the room. I'm now thinking about repainting it (partly so I can say I did home improvements during lockdown rather than just watching box sets and ruining both DH's and DS's hair). But what colour? I

if it helps, our living room has a wood floor, brown leather sofa, red and brown rug, light brown curtains (ooh, I could buy new curtains...) Sorry, I'm reluctant to post a photo as we do occasionally get people who dare to venture over the threshold.

Love mine! Here's the view from my sofa where I'm mumsnetting. It's F&B denimes which looks anything from blue to green to grey. We don't have a fireplace so it needed a feature!

This is my feature wall in my kitchen. I love and don't care if anyone thinks it's tacky...

@NavyKitchen
Very nice, I’m looking at ideas for my living room as I’m about to order navy sofas. Can I ask where you got this?

SBTLove · 09/09/2020 15:56

Should have said is it paper/mural or did you paint it?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 09/09/2020 18:25

How organised am I? Had a McDonald's too Grin I won't be offended if you hate them all.

I think as you went for red and brown as your colour scheme, any of those would work, maybe not the orange at the top.

Bluntness100 · 09/09/2020 18:38

Navy kitchen, that’s really lovely I’m also curious is it painted or a wallpaper?

ReadyForActionRyderSir · 09/09/2020 18:40

Another one here who loves wallpaper but only one wall per room 😄

eveningfalls · 09/09/2020 19:20

the vertical one on the left is lovely OP

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 09/09/2020 19:29

@SBTLove @Bluntness100 it's a wallpaper mural from
www.wallsauce.com
You pick your design, measure your wall and put the dimensions in, do any crop adjustments that need doing and they send it through to you in strips to be put on like wallpaper. I was impressed and would use them again.

@NavyKitchen
Thank you

I have a one of my bedroom walls wallpapered. It looks gorgeous and I don't care if it would be considered tacky by mumsnet.

toomanyplants · 09/09/2020 21:39

I love mine!! Lemurs and tropical birds and stuff, couldn't give a tiny toss if people consider it tacky! If you like it go for it, life's too short to worry about these things

Puffalicious · 09/09/2020 21:46

I have feature walls everywhere! Laura Ashley wallpaper features in hall, dining room and our bedroom, navy wall in small guy's room and medium guy's room has 3 walls in dark grey with a huge turquoise stripe over the ceiling and onto the white feature wall which he is steadily personalizing with black sharpie cartoon figures that he invents. Feature wall haters, judge away. Living room and eldest boy's room are papered all over. Do what feels right.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 12/09/2020 11:26

Painting in progress! Looks messy at the moment obviously because masking tape still up etc.

Oh that will look so lovely and really cosy, especially with autumn on its way.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 12/09/2020 11:52

Thank you! It's quite orangey at the moment, but I think it will look very nice when the lamp is on and curtains drawn.

Not tacky at all! Me and DP are redecorating for arrival of baby boy and in our bedroom we're doing white walls with one wall being Venetian Crystal 1 from Dulux (navy blue ish). The headboard of the bed is going to be right at the wall and above it a massive glass picture of an astronaut. In babys room we did white walls with a baby blue wall and when he grows up he can have whatever walls he likes. Smile

Bluntness100 · 12/09/2020 12:11

Navykitchen thank you, love some of that marble wallpaper too.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 12/09/2020 18:35

Finished! It does look a million times better, except when I pulled off the masking tape....😭😭
