I've had them in restaurants before and they've been nice, but every time I cook them at home they just taste bland. Any ideas?

Lemon juice, olive oil and a sprinkle of salt

thebeatofthedrum · 07/09/2020 15:39

Nutmeg sprinkled on top.

Rossaloony · 07/09/2020 15:39

Cook them in a tin of chopped tomatoes, garlic, stock and a ton or lemon and serve with lentils and rice. It's a Lebanese recipe, I can't remember what it's called but it's so yum

Olive oil, tiny bit of butter and garlic/black pepper/chilli flakes to taste.

CottonSock · 07/09/2020 15:42

Lemon juice

VallarMorghulis · 07/09/2020 15:44

Garlic. Lots of it!

giantangryrooster · 07/09/2020 15:56

Boil beans and matchstick carrots a minute or two. Dice a courgette and one sliced onion. Put everything in a pan and roast it, add crushed garlic and parsley. When of the heat add lemon juice and nutmeg.

Really recommend this Smile.

Chop into 1" pieces, pour into the bin, open a tin of any other vegetable.

Vile green slimy things

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 07/09/2020 19:25

they need a diced bacon topping

IHateCoronavirus · 07/09/2020 19:31

Slice them. Fry an onion in a bit of olive oil, the. Add the chopped green beans and toss them about until they look a bit brighter green. Add a stock cube, a bit of pepper, lemon juice and chopped tomatoes and stew until tender. Serve with rice and crusty bread! Yum!

Iamonlyme · 07/09/2020 19:46

Garlic infused olive oil.
Steam as normal drain and toss in a drizzle of garlic oil so little faff and so delicious

reluctantbrit · 07/09/2020 19:56

I cook them and have some bacon or pancetta in a seperate pan and toss them together. Also don't overcook, just al dente.

But salt is a must. In Germany we use a herb "Bohnenkraut", summer savory, to give flavour. You could try see if any herb improves the taste for you.

Letseatgrandma · 07/09/2020 20:02

How long do you steam the beans for? And what sort of steamer is good?!

sunnysidegold · 07/09/2020 20:05

Flip me, so many ways to have green beans!

We steam them then toss in a frying pan with a little bitter and garlic then add a teaspoon of wholegrain mustard at the end

Fried in a touch of sesame oil, with fresh garlic
Splash of maggi seasoning and sesame seeds

Alwaysinpain · 07/09/2020 20:15

Garlic!

homemadecommunistrussia · 07/09/2020 20:16

Just bung them in the bin and have something nice.Confused

nancybotwinbloom · 07/09/2020 20:17

@OpenlyGayExOlympicFencer

Stir fried with chopped garlic and sesame seeds.
That sounds gorgeous. Do you boil them first?
nancybotwinbloom · 07/09/2020 20:18

I Normally just add mine to thai green curry

OpenlyGayExOlympicFencer · 07/09/2020 20:32

No, I don't boil. Just heat the oil a bit first, then put in the garlic, once that's been in maybe 30 seconds the beans, then the seeds. You don't even need to boil if you're using frozen: fresh are nicer obv, but straight from the freezer this still tastes decent.

mrsmarkgruffalo · 07/09/2020 20:52

Wow so many great ideas here, thank you all! Feel really inspired now Flowers

I'm going to try these this week.

WildCherryBlossom · 07/09/2020 21:10

Put them in boiling water for a couple of minutes. While they are draining put a generous knob of salted butter in the pan and crush a clove of garlic. Once melted put the beans back in then serve with toasted flakes almonds 😋

BlenheimOrange · 07/09/2020 21:12

This is one of the nicest things to eat full stop, let alone one of the nicest things to do with green beans. No squeaking! I use less butter, btw.

Don't cook them for too long

Raw with feta or goat's cheese, blanched peas, cucumber and mint

Lightly steamed with extra virgin olive oil and salt and black pepper

Sautéed with sesame oil, chilli and soy sauce
