What hobbies do you have?

I realised tonight I don't really have any hobbies. I like to read, spend time with my children or watch tv, and whilst these are fine, I think I need to have an interest in something but I don't know what, so I need a bit of inspiration. What hobbies do you do?

Running, reading and since lockdown, I've got into fluid art which I'd really recommend as a hobby, I'm obsessed!!

What about cooking, paddle boarding, cycling, needle point, dancing

Reading is a hobby!

CuteOrangeElephant · 06/09/2020 19:22

My main hobbies are sewing and Lego.

Sewing for kids is quite fun, doesn't require much fabric when they are little. Sewing is not a cheap hobby though. Collecting fabric is a whole different hobby on its own Grin

Lego wise I collect/build/display the new Harry Potter sets and I have some random ones like the VW camper van. I find it really relaxing to do.

I bake occasionally too, that can be quite cheap. I've improved my Victoria sponge during lockdown!

Oh and I do origami occasionally, which is really cheap to start with. I bought a pack of origami paper for a fiver and can now do a variety of origami dinosaurs Smile

I am the same. DH has loads of hobbies and I feel a lot of envy but I can't find anything. I have no artistic crafty sporting or musical skill and I need to be a bit good at something for it to really engage my interest.

I do keep flirting with the idea of doing some academic study through the OU but I need to really commit to that and I'm not in that place with work and kids.

I can read like a muthafuka though.

Whatwouldnanado · 06/09/2020 19:26

Many hobbies involve being out of the house which isn't always easy when you have young children. Perhaps you'll join a book club in time. Now our kids are older I have joined a choir, the committee of a local charity and do yoga. Reading, gardening have continued.

WaltzfortheMars · 06/09/2020 19:26

Reading, drawing, art& craft, cooking, gaming.

slavetothenhs · 06/09/2020 19:27

I have a horse. I suppose it's more of a lifestyle choice than a hobby but she keeps me out of trouble. I also occasionally dabble in sewing.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 06/09/2020 19:28

FutureLearn courses and languages.
I try not to forget those I ought to know and I aim to add new ones (A2 level, so basic vocabulary and grammar)

Oh - and genealogical research, usually during winter time.

Workproblem123 · 06/09/2020 19:28

I part loan a horse and have recently taken up open water swimming which I am loving.

ritzbiscuits · 06/09/2020 19:31

Crochet, ballet and reading for me. I used to sew but since having kids it's easier to crochet in front of the tv rather than have a machine set up (and the associated noise!)

lazylinguist · 06/09/2020 19:35

Reading, learning a language, knitting, crocheting, walking. I would really recommend knitting and/or crocheting. I taught myself in my late 30s. It's very satisfying to be able to create things by following patterns, because I'm not a very creative person. I also enjoy the process of making things with my hands, as I do a job that really only uses my brain and mouth! The sheer variety of patterns means it's never boring. And it's a skill you get better and better at. It's portable, can be done almost anywhere at any time and doesn't need to be expensive unless you choose to buy really expensive yarn. It's also a very tactile thing to do and can be very relaxing. Plus you can do it in front of the tv (if it's a fairly easy pattern)! I really really love it. Smile

highlandcoo · 06/09/2020 19:36

Reading, learning Italian on Duolingo (20 minutes a day), Youtube Joe Wicks exercise classes and Yoga with Adrienne, hillwalking, gardenig and baking .. and pre-Covid I went to pottery and jewellery-making classes, French language classes at the Alliance Française, and also helped at a club for elderly people. I'm a member of two book clubs; one with friends and one at our local independent book shop.

It sounds a lot, but I'm pretty much retired and I like to be busy!

highlandcoo · 06/09/2020 19:38

Oh, and recently I went back to sewing but so far have only made one summer top and a pile of face masks. I knit in the winter and like lazy above I'm quite good with my hands but not really artistic/creative. I need a pattern to follow too.

OLGADEEPOLGA · 06/09/2020 19:40

Knitting, crochet, reading, tv, cycling, cross stitch, baking, sewing, walking, running...

PopcornAndWine · 06/09/2020 19:42

Reading is definitely a hobby! Certainly my main one. And running. And DH and I are both very interested in astronomy so watching stuff about that and looking through our telescope when the weather allows!

BrieAndChilli · 06/09/2020 19:49

I don’t have any hobbies either.

I hate sports/running. A few years ago I tried really hard to get into it and did a couple of 5/10k but I never got any better at it. Am joining a local C25k this week in an attempt to get fit though. It’s torture not a hobby!

I like to make an decorate celebration cakes but unless it’s for a celebration/event I can’t justify the cost.

I can sew but don’t really enjoy it.

I like to read/watch TV/films but that’s not sociable.

MsEllany · 06/09/2020 19:51

Mine are reading, playing Sims 4 and watching tv. Can you count listening to podcasts as a hobby? Probably not.

I’d like some better hobbies if I’m honest.

KatyaZamolodchikova · 06/09/2020 19:54

Mine are: reading, knitting, pole dancing, aerial hoop, yoga and gym. Recently I have also enjoyed growing plants and gardening but since the weather has turned I’m less engaged tbh.

topcat2014 · 06/09/2020 19:59

Church bell ringing, beaver leader, chair of governors, trustee of 2 charities.

God I sound so bloody worthy..

MIgZig · 06/09/2020 19:59

Singing (that's been fun in lockdown!), reading, cross stitch, sewing, hiking, foraging, bird-watching, baking - all sorts really. Mostly stuff that I can pick up and put down as family and work commitments allow. Only singing I am tied to as part of a church choir.

HoratiotheHorsefly · 06/09/2020 20:00

None really unless you count watching tv. I just can't be bothered to have a hobby because I feel I should. I'm quite happy just going to work because I like my job, coming home and watching tv. I feel no need to do anything more.

Allthepinkunicorns · 06/09/2020 20:04

Apparently diy, I appear to enjoy decorating as I spend so much time doing it. I also love doing puzzles. Scrolling my phone and watching crap on Netflix.

illtellyouforwhy · 06/09/2020 20:05

Family tree research; although hit a wall just now sadly

Reading (particularly feminist/medical literature and even better if the two crossover)

Organising photos/videos . My grandmothers houses both being a treasure trove of photos, vhs tapes etc.

blue25 · 06/09/2020 20:12

Walking, reading, tennis, baking, gardening, crochet & travel. I hate just sitting in front of the TV so I like lots of things to keep me busy.

TinySongstress · 06/09/2020 20:13

I paint.

What hobbies do you have?
Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 06/09/2020 20:23

None. I don't think i have the attention span for it. I get bored really easily and give up. I went to loads of different things as a child and gave them all up. Must have drove my parents nuts, but they never forced me.
I took up running for a while, but go through phases of can't be arsed. I lost quite a bit of weight the first time, but didn't see any real results the next few times, so eventually just gave up. I actually do really enjoy it though. Makes me feel good after but I'm pregnant now and can hardly walk this time, never mind run.
