Tell me about your BIG underwired bras

snappycamper · 06/09/2020 15:58

I wear a 44D and like underwiring in my bras.

M&S have recently stopped making the only underwired style that they did in this size, leaving me with no wired options there.

Where do those of you with similar sized chests buy bras? The likes of bravissimo are limited to smaller chest sizes, and I've found that the catalogue options tend to be cheaply and poorly made. I have on occasion bought nice bras in the rigby and peller sale but it's too expensive for everyday.

Hit me with your recommendations and thank you in advance Smile

Second the PP, Asda t-shirt bras are honestly brilliant (I'm a size 20 and a 38E)

Well worth trying for £4!

QuestionableMouse · 07/09/2020 01:21

Is it 44 inches around your ribs? Are you adding four like some shops used to advise?

I'm bigger than you in dress size (currently a 24/26) and I measure 40 inches round my ribs.

I'd love to be a D cup though... I'm more like a K. (Sadly not a typo)

snappycamper · 07/09/2020 06:54

I measure 44 inches around my ribs. I promise.

Going to give Asda a whirl. Thanks

How many times does the OP have to say she has measured around under her boobs and it is 44!
I think Pour Moi do the size you need OP.

M&S are pretty rubbish for sizing for me and if you describe yourself as having “big” boobs it’s very unlikely that you are a DD, which is actually fairly small. A 44DD would be someone who is quite large in the body with medium sized boobs. I am a size 16 and a 34FF/G depending on the brand. I have to go to independents and get brands such as Freya and Fantasie (the latter being the best, sturdy but mostly pretty not dowdy). Bravissimo are rubbish in my opinion, the straps are not supportive enough for heavy boobs. Some supermarkets go up to the higher cup sizes - I think Katie Price did a range for Asda - but despite them fitting they just weren’t sturdy enough.

herrcomesthenamechanger · 07/09/2020 10:56

Hmm, I think Asda bras may have got smaller- maybe try on if you can

I didn't describe myself as having big boobs, I asked about big bras. As you correctly deduce, 44 is a large chest size. I am a large person with not particularly large boobs...

Prima Donna deauville is a fantastic bra and I won’t wear anything else. It can be bought in independent stores or eBay. They are expensive but can be picked up cheaper on eBay.

Brixhambelle1 · 11/09/2020 23:53

My life has changed since discovering Primadonna Deauville. Size 36G here and was desperate for a reduction as so tired of carrying around the extra Stone in weight. They are expensive. I have worked my way through M and S - rubbish and never the right size, Bravissimo - -ok but often felt a little flimsy to these. I found them on a rainy day in Rigby and Peller. They have been life changing. I hand wash - takes a couple of minutes and they last. They have extra side pieces to cope with breasts that start under your arm. I would never go back. My back/shoulders no longer ache, my breasts aren’t by my knees and they are pretty.

MinnieAnonyMouse · 12/09/2020 00:10

Surprisingly, Ann Summers bras are fab and do big back sizes AND big cup sizes

Mmr224 · 12/09/2020 00:22

Definitely try bravissimo, bras last ages and are good quality. If they don't have anything that fits with a bra extender they're great at suggestions sources. Also, Markies are famously bad for cup size measurement. If you don't wanteasured, bravissimo have a really good guide to how a well fitted bra should look on you, and what is wrong in a range of pictures, with suggestions. For example, I'm a slightly different size in a full cup bra Vs a balconette style bra, and black dye sometimes makes fabric fit tighter.

Would probably look at Thier guide and then try on a few in different styles/sizes at Asda. 44D is effectively same size as 42DD, going up a back size/down a cup size for fit. Hope you find something comfortable that you like. Markies had me in a 46D, from bravissimo im a 38J

MountainDweller · 12/09/2020 12:40

Have you tried Brastop online? I've used them since I recalculated my size from 42B to 42E. I'm a 20/22 as well... I just have a big rib cage, it's always been like that. No way would a 38 band do up! I can just about wear a 40F in some brands. It's a shame as there is much more choice in a 40 band and smaller! Anyway, you can try lots of brands on Brastop - they have free returns. There's definitely a big difference between brands in how they fit. I like Curvy Kate (pretty sure they go up to a 44). I second the back extender too - it's good for new bras if they feel a bit tight - they usually loosen up after a couple of washes.

snappycamper · 17/09/2020 08:18

Just by way of update, Asda is my new go-to shop for bras. The t shirt bras only go up to 42 but they are quite stretchy and definitely great for the price.

Thanks also to the poster who reminded me about bra stop. I used to shop there years ago and couldn't remember what it was called. They used to have a tiny little retail outlet in Baker Street station too, not sure if it's still there as I don't live in London any more but I will have a look online.

I also tried Betty and Belle but they have been very slow to deliver.

Oh yay! I'm really glad Smile

contactusdeletus · 26/09/2020 18:51

Is there anything that gets the seal of approval on Bravissimo? I'm living in a remote location with no easy access to fitters. I've ordered heaps from them in recent weeks, only to end up sending it all back. I'm tired of wasting time and money. (I don't qualify for free returns or free delivery, so this is really adding up.)

It feels as if everything I buy is too tight in the band, too big in the cups, wires too high, straps too thin, fabric too thin or itchy . . . They're all supposed to the be the same size and yet they all fail to work, for completely different reasons each time. The fabric quality isn't impressing me either. Is it just me? Have I become weirdly shaped and hyper sensitive during lockdown?

DespairingHomeowner · 01/10/2020 23:25

Fantasie (available from Bravissimo but also Debenhams and House of Fraser) do great bras. Expensive but very long lasting: and actually attractive too

EvilEdna1 · 01/10/2020 23:31

I get my 32GGs from Elomi. The most comfortable I have found

Dowser · 01/10/2020 23:39

I like sainsburys bras
I’m a 40dd
Size 16
