Just looking for opinions either way, and you reasons behind your choice? How old is your child?

My 11yr old is asking for one btw!

Neither of mine had tv in their room.
We don’t have one either.

tearinyourhand · 05/09/2020 10:12

No. But we don have one in our bedroom either so they don't even bother asking for one.

EasilyDeleted · 05/09/2020 10:12

No, 16 and 14. They've never asked for them and there isn't really space in their rooms.

No. I disagree with it on many levels. DC is 14.

qwertypie · 05/09/2020 10:15

No, I'm really not a fan of TVs in kids' bedrooms. I've seen too many younger relatives and kids' friends turn into hermits and only come out of their rooms to eat because they're glued to TV. Even worse now that there's the ability to watch endless hours of favourite programmes on demand...

CMOTDibbler · 05/09/2020 10:16

No. And won't until he could afford one of his own.

AudTheDeepMinded · 05/09/2020 10:16

Absolutely not (5, 8 and nearly 10). Occasionally allowed the Kindle to watch something but rarely. Usually watch films/programmes in living room. I had TV in my room as an older teenager, it was a B&W cast off of my parents.

BrieAndChilli · 05/09/2020 10:16

No, no tell us in thier rooms. We have a small tv in the study that they use so not always hogging the main tv.
They also have tablets so can watch Netflix etc in thier rooms but tablets are left downstairs at night etc.

c3pu · 05/09/2020 10:19

My ds(10) got at for his room for his 10th birthday, mainly so he can play Xbox without hogging the big TV in the sitting room.

I do make sure I regulate his use though.

dollypartonscoat · 05/09/2020 10:26

No tellys in bedrooms here

CatFaceCats · 05/09/2020 10:31

Yes, they are 8 and 9. I was getting fed up of them using it for switch/PS4 so now they can do that in their rooms.
They don’t actually watch much TV, it’s generally Netflix for 30 mins before bed. I take the remotes at lights out time.

Dorobie · 05/09/2020 10:36

Thanks.

We don’t have a telly in our room either.

We inly have one telly in the house, which is in the living room. My ds has a switch, which he plays both using the telly and as hand held in his room. But it’s more handheld so he’s not hogging the telly.... He’s not on it constantly btw!

I’m just trying to weigh it up. Because I like him not having a telly in his room, but wonder that he will likely trade his switch in for an xbox/ps4 a some point in the next couple of years?

Mine do. They get it on for an hour or so on a Friday & Saturday evening so DH and I can eat our dinner in peace. Very occasionally they get it on during the day over the weekend if they can’t agree on an activity or are just in one of those moods.

Never thought I would let my kids have a tv in their room but I work full time, as does DH, and after a week of juggling everything I’m grateful to be able to get them to bed at 6.30pm so we can eat and have a glass of wine in peace and quiet.

NameXForThis · 05/09/2020 10:37

No. I don’t have one in my room, either.

spiderlight · 05/09/2020 10:44

Mine got one at 12. Never watches actual telly on it. Only uses it when he wants to play XBox with his friends and we don't want him hogging our TV downstairs.

WankPuffins · 05/09/2020 10:45

My eldest does but he’s a teen, hardly watched it through (spends all his time gaming on PC).

Youngest is 6, doesn’t have one but watched stuff on I pad instead.

I’m not against TVs in rooms - ita just these days I pads seem easier to me than TVs.

I had one in my room from when I was 4. I used to sleep with it on. I’d still so that if it wasn’t for Dh. So I’m not against them in anyway and I’m not against screen time in general.

WiserOlder · 05/09/2020 10:47

Well, I don't have a TV with channels iykwim, but both kids have screens, so the issue of having a tv in your bedroom is kind of out of date.

itbemay1 · 05/09/2020 11:09

Yes but only since they stated secondary school. Simply because sometimes I didn't want to watch what they did, we don't have one in our room and only one in the front room.

skippy67 · 05/09/2020 11:12

Yes, both of mine had a TV in their rooms from about age 8.

Zoflorabore · 05/09/2020 11:14

Ds is 17 and has a big one on his wall but it’s mainly used for the Xbox and watching Sky/Netflix etc.

Dd is 9 and hasn’t got one. She used to a few years ago, only a monitor sized one with a built in DVD player but we removed it as she ended up dependent on it getting to sleep.

The biggest problem at bedtimes in this house is the phones.

AlexaShutUp · 05/09/2020 11:14

No, I think TVs in bedrooms are really unhealthy. We don't have one in our room either.

purpledagger · 05/09/2020 11:23

Yep, both have had TVs in their rooms since they were about 7. They spend more time on their phones though.

chomalungma · 05/09/2020 11:36

A telly?

Why have a telly when you have a mobile phone with Amazon and Netflix?

Plus a PC and a PS4 with hours of entertainment there.

PaperMonster · 05/09/2020 12:17

We’ve only the one telly in the house. Only time my daughter’s asked for one in her bedroom was in Reception when she’d been to tea at a friend’s house and she had one. Daughter is 9.

Looneytune253 · 05/09/2020 12:25

Yes but I don't think it's ever been switched on lol. They're not allowed tech at bedtime tho either so they just tend to watch downstairs during the day
