Just looking for opinions either way, and you reasons behind your choice? How old is your child?

My 11yr old is asking for one btw!

No,and neither do we.

thegcatsmother · 05/09/2020 16:29

Nope, and he is 24! He has a PC, a laptop, a PS4 and an HDMI screen, and had I not baggsed the third bedroom as my dressing room, he would have had those set up in there to get them out of his room.

PlateTectonics · 05/09/2020 16:33

No, the DC don't (eldest is 14) and we don't either. They all lie in bed reading a book for a while before going to sleep - I'd never get them to do that if they had a telly!

No
Dh and I have one in our room.
We have one in the sitting room and one in the conservatory

PickAChew · 05/09/2020 16:36

14 year old has one - he's autistic and watches road trip videos and cartoons. 16 yo has no interest.

SimonJT · 05/09/2020 16:38

No, TVs are completely banned in bedrooms in this flat, they aren’t conducive to good sleep hygiene. Screens in general are banned in bedrooms as well.

formerbabe · 05/09/2020 16:40

No...my kids would love a tv in their room but not happening.

Dh and I have one in our room. We also have one in the playroom, living room and kitchen

Sparticuscaticus · 05/09/2020 16:41

Mine do, all 3. Biggest mistake ever.
Don't let them have computers in their rooms either.

OublietteBravo · 05/09/2020 16:43

No. We only have one television in the house. I refuse to have any more. It’s one of the few things I absolutely insist on.

BiBabbles · 05/09/2020 16:47

DD1 has a little MP3 speaker in her room for dancing, but that's it for electronics upstairs most of the time. The only TVs we have are in the front room, and the various other screen devices don't leave the front room without permission and then have to be brought back when done.

I have four kids, ages 8-16. This is just how we've always done things. One space for electronic stuff, mostly under parental supervision, there is individual and family time for TV or computers (we have a desktop that uses a TV as a monitor as well as laptops), for TV, we come to agreements & compromises on content.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 05/09/2020 16:50

No. Televisions do not belong in bedrooms.

Londonborncatty · 05/09/2020 16:50

Eldest, no at 13 but will do soon.

RigaBalsam · 05/09/2020 16:50

Yes dd age 12 has one. Sometimes goes weeks without using it.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 05/09/2020 16:52

No, although my teens have computers which they can watch Netflix on. Netflix is PIN protected and they can only watch 15s and under without asking for the password. We can spy on what's on their screen remotely (they know this - we hardly ever do and tell them if we have).

13 year old's computer has a time limit although 15 year old's doesn't because she only watches TV up there when she has a friend to stay or when ill, otherwise she's an unusually sociable teen and watches with us. She games in phases but goes weeks without touching the PC frequently when she doesn't have homeschooling. 13 year old doesn't self regulate but actually acknowledges the time limit is a good idea and never protests or tries to get round it. DH is a programmer and still technically ahead of the kids...

No screens in the 9 year old's room.

Both the older 2 got their computers (gaming desk tops) at 11 or 12 so I wouldn't be against screens in rooms on principal but would want it PIN protected for both time and content at 11.

I used to teach secondary many years ago and some 11 and 12 year olds with TVs in their rooms used to fall asleep in class and confess to putting their TVs back on after their parents went to bed and watching 'Law and Order' and 'CSI Miami' at 11pm...

stargirl1701 · 05/09/2020 16:54

Nope. Only one TV and it is downstairs.

No screens in bedrooms for everyone. Not just kids.

SuitedandBooted · 05/09/2020 16:56

One TV in our house, in a downstairs room. One xbox connected to it.

DD 16 and DS 13 won't be having one anytime soon. They have laptops and phones. Whole household's phones stay downstairs when we go to bed.

I also turn off the internet when we go to bed.

Changeagain1 · 05/09/2020 16:58

We put one in our daughters room when she was 16. But she very very rarely uses it - only connects to BBC iPlayer and Netflix.

kidsdrivingmemad · 05/09/2020 16:59

How is it with netmums no one has TVs. Everyone I know has one in their bedrooms and all my friends children have a tv in their rooms for gaming. I have a tv in mine as I like to watch Netflix or films in bed.

I agree.

Apparently they don't belong in rooms. Hmm
Each to their own though.

I’ve never been on netmums so wouldn’t know

Yes, dd2 is 10 and got one in her room in Feb. We weren't intending to get her one, but a friend was getting rid of one and asked if we'd like it, so we took it. It's worked out to be a godsend over lockdown as dh was working in the living room which is where our only other TV is.

Shinygoldbauble · 05/09/2020 17:21

We have a really old tv in my dds' bedroom. The only thing it plays is DVDs.
They don't use it often but it has been handy. We don't have one in our bedroom and only have one other tv in the house.

ExtremelyBoldSquirrels · 05/09/2020 17:26

My 11 year old doesn’t have a tv in his room But he manages to watch plenty of crap on YouTube in there anyway. And play games (on his switch).

I wouldn’t have one in my bedroom because I don’t want one. I’ve got a living room for watching tv. I don’t want to do it in bed. Tbh, I don’t watch much anyway so that might influence my feelings about TVs in my bedroom.

Not that I’m all high brow and too good for tv. I waste my time with mindless crap on the internet instead. 😂

User43210 · 05/09/2020 18:11

Mine will, if they want one. I had one growing up and found it much easier to sleep with.
