I would a normal 2 bedroom house is just fine

I'd like a house in Chelsea, London, overlooking a square. Three beds, on two levels, with a self contained one bed flat on the lower ground which doesn't have the only access to the garden. High ceilings and fireplaces. The garden should be at least 20ft long. I'd like it to be sound proofed from neighbours. Five minute walk to the tube. I just need the £5m to be able to buy it.

Continual problem with ‘edge of a village’ is most villages grow and that lovely field you were looking out onto (sea the other side obvsGrin) is so often encroached upon.

Best bet is at a distance from a village such that you may have protection from restrictions on building on open countryside.

Village envelopes tend to grow.
Mn Twitter. You do of course still need to be within stumbling distance of village/pub if that’s your dream. I recommend if it’s a hilly walk that you try for downhill to village and uphill stumble back - I’ve found this is easier all round.

Detached newish build eco house or period house. Wraparound garden, big windows, high ceilings, view of something spacious (park/river/sea/fields). Huge garden possibly walled with a few fruit trees, a trampoline for the kids, a swing and covered seating area.
All of this would be in a nice safe friendly village with a few good pubs etc, and have great public transport links to a good city.

@HeronLanyon

jolokoy please may I move in (I’ll leave my dp behind obvs - wouldn’t want to be crowded!) Grin Sounds lovely.
I realised reading that back I said little a lot! But I don't need a big place. I just want enough for me and a bit of spare space for friends to stay.

So, yes! Come along!

HeronLanyon · 05/09/2020 08:32

You are so generous - just two nights if I at times make sure it suits me and then I’ll get my own. Grin

HeronLanyon · 05/09/2020 08:32

If I may not ‘at times’.

Equimum · 05/09/2020 08:40

Victorian cottage or small barn conversion in a big plot of land. I’m not so bothered about having a big house, but I do like character. I’d like enough land to keep a horse and donkey, a few chicken and grow vegetables.

monkeyonthetable · 05/09/2020 08:53

@Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket - we're after exactly the same house! Grin

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 05/09/2020 08:55

@monkeyonthetable good taste! We can live next door Grin

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 05/09/2020 08:58

If the kids were still home, a large detached home with upstairs laundry room, big lawn, massive family room come kitchen, kitchen garden for growing veg, an adults only snug.

If it were just dh and I, a small, easy to clean home with a small courtyard for pots. Driveway. Small utility room essential

monkeyonthetable · 05/09/2020 09:01

@Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket - agreed. We can swap plant cuttings and chutney and jam recipes (because when I get a house like that I will become a brilliant maker of preserves.)

Kittykatmacbill · 05/09/2020 09:17

Georgian terrace house ten minutes walk closer to town - ten min walk to edge of town and less than 20 to the station. thankfully small garden but space for evehicle charging and bike container. Big kitchen dinner with a utility, four bed and a living room. Describing a real property only need about extra 300k mortgage which by the time we could move at 45 seems unappealing. - so probably not going to be possible.

Lunariagal · 05/09/2020 11:00

Our house, but in a couple if acres of land where I could grow my veg in the polytunnel and set up my flower farm.

Never gonna happen.

Happynow001 · 05/09/2020 11:12

@Butterer

Detached bungalow.

Yep with good sized pantry plus utility room and conservatory, close to good transport links, shopping, gym, usual facilities, etc. (Not that I've thought about this at all...) 🌹

GreyGardens88 · 05/09/2020 11:17

Small Georgian Manor House with a formal garden, a traditional garden, an orchard and a paddock all separated by ancient red brick walls with "secret garden" type doorways between them. It would also have an orangery full of exotic plants with wicker furniture and vintage style bar

It would be on the edge of a picturesque village, with good amenities and bus link to a nearby city

Dowser · 05/09/2020 11:42

I’m happy with my semi bungalow but if pushed would prefer detached with beautiful gardens
Not too huge, but big enough to follow the sunshine round and lovingly tended by a competent gardener who may or not be my third husband 😂

Dishy gardener is a must
LuckyAmy1986 · 05/09/2020 11:47

Detached house 3/4 beds with a garden that isn't overlooked. Oh and parking!

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 05/09/2020 11:49

A nice sandstone house on an island off Scotland 😄 actually going to look into this once I’ve finished my nurses training! They are always looking for a nurse in the islands!

Ishihtzuknot · 05/09/2020 13:51

I’m content with a normal little house, doesn’t have to be perfect. But, my requirements would be detached with no neighbours in the entire town/village Grin in fact I’d live in a shed for that dream.
