Pants! It’s DS’s birthday on Monday!!!! Ideas file a non-footballing 12 year old boy needed!

Damn it, DS’s birthday has crept up on me! Overlooked in trying to entertain the dc whilst working, back to school stuff and being on holiday this week. I was meant to get out of DS what he actually wanted whilst in holiday and order it, and now it’s suddenly Friday!

Anyone got any ideas for presents for a 12 year old boy? He’s not into football, at all. His sports are archery and mountain biking, but he’s got everything he needs. Not into clothes. Listens to music on Amazon/Spotify on an Alexa thing. Has a phone and tablet.

My sister and his Godmother have both said that they won’t be sending him a present due to their redundancies. Fine, but other than a T shirt and socks I’ve already got him, and some Lego from his grandparents, the poor boy is going to have nothing to open on his birthday.

I have ordered him a cake, that’s something.

He knows he’s not getting a particularly “big” present this year, because he got an iPad in April for school work, but is used as much for games! He’ll be 12. I saw some bars of dairy milk with names on the wrapper in a service station on the way here. Will have a look and see if they have them on the other side of the motorway.

Cinema vouchers, Young person's driving lesson, bank account, cool onesie, fiddle type toys, spiralizer.

A board game to play together? Got this for ds a couple of years ago. Jibber Jabber It says age 16+ but I didn't notice that before buying. We cried with laughter playing it on his birthday. Really silly game and best present ever.

BikeRunSki · 04/09/2020 17:20

Thank you
Onesie and young driver experiences are great ideas. There’s a young driver place close to us.
Hi did mention ice skating/ice hockey training, but I don’t think it’s happening at the moment.

Cool phone case, Lego, fashion trainers, hoody. It’s a tricky age - too old for kiddy stuff, too young for the full-on teenage stuff.

Ricekrispie22 · 04/09/2020 17:21

Mug cake kits
Phone case
Board game
Power bank
Toastie or waffle maker

We play a lot of board games (my feet at resting on Carcassonne as I type), and I always get a new one for us all at Christmas. I’m going to save that for then.

New headphones
Something for his bedroom- funky lights/ poster or print for his wall.
Magnetic notice board/ cork board

browneyesblue · 04/09/2020 17:25

Slackline kit - loads of brands on amazon, and I also saw them at Decathlon.

Perhaps an App Store voucher, or an activity voucher (our local climbing wall has reopened, as have some outdoor activity centres).

Strugglingtodomybest · 04/09/2020 17:27

Mine loved getting a candy floss machine at that age.

AlanBrazil · 04/09/2020 17:31

Skateboard & membership to an indoor skate park?

frustrationcentral · 04/09/2020 17:34

Driving lesson is a great idea. DS1 has been getting them for his birthday since he was 12 - this year he'll be starting the real thing! He's been to Mercedes Benz world but more recently has had the young admiral lessons which I think are better.

Ifly?

Hangingbasketofdoom · 04/09/2020 17:36

I bought ds a "tuck box" which I filled with his favourite sweets and some cans. If he has an Alexa, you could get a light bulb that is controlled through it and changes colour (Amazon - be quick). Onesie. Popcorn maker. Trampoline session. Poster for his room of favourite sport/bike.
You have made me feel a bit better about my own lack of organisation as I have never come this close to not having presents for a child's birthday! Hope you get it sorted in time 🤞

BikeRunSki · 04/09/2020 17:40

Thanks all. Some great ideas!
I have ordered him a fluffy fleece onsie (I’ve got that Next thing where you pay £20 for next day delivery for a year) and some Mandalorian Lego. It’ll make a big parcel too.

We got a waffle machine from a charity shop recently - highly recommended! And he got some new headphones last Christmas which he had managed not to break or loose yet!

@browneyesblue- DD would love a slack line kit (her birthday is next month), except we don’t have any trees.

What about survival kit stuff - there’s loads on Amazon. I got DS a paracord bracelet and an SAS survival guide. There’s things like waterproof notebooks and matches, multi tools etc.

Lazysundaymorning · 04/09/2020 17:47

Fitbit or similar type watch? My eldest has a MoreFit one.

Don't know how much he likes Lego - maybe he won't want more as you have bought some ahead - but Hidden Side range great for older children.

BikeRunSki · 04/09/2020 17:48

@Elisheva - that will be a perfect Christmas present after Scouts starts back.

@BikeRunSki we don’t have trees either, but luckily we are just around the corner from some playing fields with suitable trees. The kit we have comes with tree protectors, so we leave the trees as we find them.
I find slacklining really difficult though - my centre of gravity is very different than it used to be Grin

AngryPrincess · 04/09/2020 17:52

A pizza blanket?

Hangingbasketofdoom · 04/09/2020 17:58

I don't know what that is but I want one!

NothingTraLaLa · 04/09/2020 18:02

My DC have remote controlled colour changing LED strip lights in their bedrooms (DD saw them on TikTok) which they both love.

Bairnsmum05 · 04/09/2020 18:23

Led lights. Can usually buy in B&M. Some Fox branded mtb gear, expensive though! Spotify?

DanFmDorking · 04/09/2020 18:32

Depending where you live try this Virtual Reality gaming.

TheWoollybacksWife · 04/09/2020 18:37

There's a stop motion movie making kit posted on the Christmas bargain thread (either the current thread or the end of the last one). Could be useful for making Lego movies. I think it might be an Amazon listing.

tinierclanger · 04/09/2020 18:41

Lights are definitely a thing at this age. Led strips or Nanoleafs. American or Japanese sweet hamper. Nice hoodie.

TheWoollybacksWife · 04/09/2020 18:54

This is the Lego movie maker.
