Pants! It’s DS’s birthday on Monday!!!! Ideas file a non-footballing 12 year old boy needed!

Damn it, DS’s birthday has crept up on me! Overlooked in trying to entertain the dc whilst working, back to school stuff and being on holiday this week. I was meant to get out of DS what he actually wanted whilst in holiday and order it, and now it’s suddenly Friday!

Anyone got any ideas for presents for a 12 year old boy? He’s not into football, at all. His sports are archery and mountain biking, but he’s got everything he needs. Not into clothes. Listens to music on Amazon/Spotify on an Alexa thing. Has a phone and tablet.

My sister and his Godmother have both said that they won’t be sending him a present due to their redundancies. Fine, but other than a T shirt and socks I’ve already got him, and some Lego from his grandparents, the poor boy is going to have nothing to open on his birthday.

I have ordered him a cake, that’s something.

He knows he’s not getting a particularly “big” present this year, because he got an iPad in April for school work, but is used as much for games! He’ll be 12. I saw some bars of dairy milk with names on the wrapper in a service station on the way here. Will have a look and see if they have them on the other side of the motorway.

I need to know what a pizza blanket is. 😀

@Hangingbasketofdoom - I’m normally pretty well organised. In any normal year, I’d have a party/sleepover booked by the end of the summer term and presents bought. I have been completely overwhelmed by this year for a number of reasons. This holiday was organised slightly last minute, and I don’t think I’d quite processed that there’s only a day between getting home and DS’s birthday. It sort of gets overlooked between holiday and back to school (the next day).

If he likes mtb, what about a day at a trail centre?

My nephew is 11 and asked for Xbox live vouchers and a remote control drone type, flying thingy. He was delighted with it.

You've got a cake and a day or two, you'll be fine Smile

@Bairnsmum05, DH and I are both also mtb’ers and DS (and DD) do very well for mtb gear. The T shirt I’ve got him is a Fox technical T (but picked up for a tenner in a sale!).

Love the sounds of the LED lights.

@DanFmDorking - we’re in W Yorks. There’s a VR gaming place not too far away, where he went to a party once, and I have promised he can have a party sometime. Until 2 days ago we had additional local lockdown restrictions.

Off to look at lights and pizza blankets

@GymSloth, We’ve been hitting Scottish trail centres all week! We are a family of mtb’ers.

Graphic novels? My DS is also Y7 and has loads, happy to recommend if you like?

Are there any escape room type things where you are? My DD and her friends are hugely into those.

Paintballing session?

I'm afraid my DS is mostly Lego, Lego, and more Lego...even now! And books and Lego books...

DanFmDorking · 04/09/2020 21:53

@BikeRunSki - I did one recently with some youngsters and I really enjoyed it - we all had a great time Smile.

BikeRunSki · 04/09/2020 21:59

@PhilODox - DS would also be happy with more and more Lego. Glad it’s normal!

I’m considering just getting Diagon Alley from everybody, for everybody and nothing else for Christmas.

Nerf or similar laser guns (play) for at home . We have four and it’s fun to break them out and we all have a go

ChickensMightFly · 05/09/2020 21:30

Indoor sky diving... Depending where you are in the country there are a few. Brilliant experience.
