Hello. Due to not wanting to go abroad dh and I planning to go away for three nights end of September. We are both massive history buffs and he's never been to Bath so deff want to take him. So thinking one day in Bath and one full day in Bristol zoo. Not sure what else we want to do.

But we can't decide whether to stay in Bath or Bristol. Bristol is cheaper and a bit more to do but bath is so quaint and lovely to walk around.

Oh help

I'd recommend staying in Bristol. The attractions are a lot more spaced out than Bath and staying there would give you more time to visit them. Bath you could conceivably do in one day.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/08/2020 14:03

Agree. Stay in Bristol and visit Bath for the day.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 31/08/2020 14:11

I’d stay in Bath because it’s so beautiful.

Have you looked around Brisol marina

Fortheloveofbob · 31/08/2020 15:17

Bath! Bristol is a hole...

MilkshakeandFries · 31/08/2020 15:18

It's also walking distance to pretty much everything you could want.

Ricekrispie22 · 31/08/2020 15:28

We stayed at this inn www.ohhpubs.co.uk/the-bear-and-swan/accommodation/ and from it we visited Bath, Bristol, Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole

Bath is lovely at night, it depends if you want peace to soak up the atmosphere or a bit of life (in which case Bristol). Walk around the Royal Cresent at dusk, go for a meal, wander over the bridge and look at the river. I want to go now!

HoldMyLobster · 31/08/2020 17:07

I'd stay in Bath, and maybe do a day trip to Bristol. I've lived in both. I just love the atmosphere in Bath, and there's so much to do there.

AdaColeman · 31/08/2020 17:19

I'd stay in Bristol as there is so much to do, SS Great Britain if it is open, possibly a boat tour of the docks, the Suspension Bridge, art galleries and museums galore, history at every turn.
You could visit Bath for the day, and fit in the main attractions.

RosesinGranGransgarden · 31/08/2020 17:21

Bristol Zoo is not great. Bath is full of old people.

nillygin · 31/08/2020 17:26

Wild place project is better than the zoo!

Whatthebloodyell · 31/08/2020 17:26

2 nights in Bristol and 1 night Bath. Bath is lovely at evening time and there are some great places to eat and drink so definitely worth spending one night there.

SummerFru1t · 31/08/2020 17:30

Have lived in both and love both although I did feel Bristol had got a bit seedy and scruffy last time I visited.

Def stay in Bath. It’s lovely in the evening and has lots of nice hotels.

ellenpartridge · 31/08/2020 17:33

Bristol is great but the zoo is not a full day trip, more like a half day.

JaJaDingDong · 31/08/2020 17:35

You won't need a day in Bristol zoo. It's very small. Bath and Bristol aren't that far apart, but I think I'd stay in Bristol rather than Bath, but Bath is nice too (not much help!)

Couch25k · 31/08/2020 17:37

Bath, its beautiful. Visit Bristol then come back to Bath Wink

SummerFru1t · 31/08/2020 17:48

Not sure what you’d want to do in Bristol without kids that would make a need to stay there. SS Great Britain is fab though.

Bath has the Roman Baths, all that architecture, the Spa, parks, No1 Royal Crescent, Jane Austin connection, book shops, great shopping....

Boysboysboys · 31/08/2020 17:52

Stay in Bristol, there is loads to do, it's a lovely and lively city. Stay neat the docks of possible.

SummerFru1t · 31/08/2020 18:01

What is there in Bristol to do without kids now a days?I found the shopping a bit grim.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 31/08/2020 18:02

The zoo is ok..

But it’s more gardens with a few animals than a zoo proper.

It used to have lots of animals years ago, but they were not kept in good conditions so they were moved out.
