We all know our children can be a lot to handle... Early morning, messy houses, picky eaters, and moody teenagers can be enough to drive you insane. So I thought a light-hearted thread might be fun to share the weird and wonderful things our children do that makes the drudgery of parenting worthwhile!

I'll start: DS's (just tiny at 3 months) lip quivers any time someone picks him up. He also chats happily with a stuffed spider more than with people.

their lovely faces WHEN THEY ARE ASLEEP.

Bedtime Smile

They're both so funny. They've most been an absolute delight through the teen years and are just great company.

kissing him on the cheek. That he's full of joy. He's so funny, and so gorgeous. He has the joy like a puppy.

nancybotwinbloom · 30/08/2020 22:36

She's so loving and we are so close.

One good thing to come of Covid is all of the extra time we've been able to spend with each other.

TellYourCatISaidHi · 30/08/2020 22:38

DS (6) - his lovely soft cheeks. He’s 6 and they’re like clouds

DD (3) - she’s a hilarious mimic and we sit and do impressions of people together

goingflowing · 30/08/2020 22:39

The laughter. The funny/innocent questions when they discover the world. The cuddles!!

chubbyhotchoc · 30/08/2020 22:40

That she's so outgoing and confident. She will literally have a go at anything and join in with anything

pleasecaffeinateme · 30/08/2020 22:40

My DS (nearly 2) is becoming a bit of a comedian. Loves making silly faces or noises and waiting for our reaction then laughing his head off. It's not something we can make him do so when it happens randomly, we relish it and it's the highlight of our day. He is pure joy.

ginsparkles · 30/08/2020 22:40

Her tenacity. She never gives up, quietly and carefully keeps going no matter how hard.

WinWinnieTheWay · 30/08/2020 22:41

Those spontaneous perfect moments that flood your heart. You can't create them, they don't appear on Instagram or FB.

MutteringDarkly · 30/08/2020 22:43

That back when she was a toddler if she was very excited by something she would shift from foot to foot in sheer delight...and still does it even though almost a tween Grin

Hormonecrazyhell · 30/08/2020 22:43

How well ds cleans the bathroom after he’s used it. Top husband in the making Smile

Dementedswan · 30/08/2020 22:44

How different they are. There is only 16 months between mine, they look so similar that teaching staff get them mixed up at times but they have complete opposite personalities.

But yes, bedtime! I love checking in on them and seeing their beautiful faces quiet and dreaming. Its about the only time they are not bickering Grin

snappycamper · 30/08/2020 22:44

@Hawkmoth

their lovely faces WHEN THEY ARE ASLEEP.
This!

Plus also the fact that, for now, all they need to soothe them when upset is me. It will break my heart when they have grown up problems that I can't solve with a cuddle and a banana milkshake

DinoDeb · 30/08/2020 22:45

The fact that they are so confident and so social. Ages ranging between 3 and 12 - and all of them are happy to talk to anyone, play with anyone, introduce themselves to someone, adult or child.

It makes life so much easier and nicer. As a child I was riddled with insecurity and self-consciousness and was painfully shy at times and I feel ridiculously pleased and proud that they aren’t this way inclined.

chubbyhotchoc · 30/08/2020 22:48

@DinoDeb same. I live vicariously through my dd. She's so different to me as a child

Mylittlepony374 · 30/08/2020 22:49

The giggles

Shelby30 · 30/08/2020 22:54

She's so loving. Loves cuddles and kisses and tells me she loves me and all her family, she is just the sweetest, cutest little girl 🥰 Kinda wish I cld just keep her at 3yrs old forever 😂

Dumpyandabdabs · 30/08/2020 22:59

My son is 16, he has always been an old soul, doesnt follow the crowd and is a film nerd like me so we have some great movie debates. My daughter is 11 and is quick witted, super thoughtful and kind!

SapphosRock · 30/08/2020 23:01

Thanks for this thread!

My favourite thing about my DC is how much they love one another. There's a 4.5 year age gap but they simply adore each other.

I love how DD5 makes dens for her and her brother to play in, sings to him and wants to hug and kiss him all the time.

I love how baby DS giggles in his jumperoo and squeals with excitement every time he sees his big sister. Often I catch him gazing at her with his love eyes.

disorganisedsecretsquirrel · 30/08/2020 23:05

For me it's 'kindness' above everything else..

OnceAponAMum · 30/08/2020 23:10

So kind and so funny. He has a really subversive sense of humour. At 10 he has got extremely, independently, an idea of justice and fairness. Gone from being annoyed with political discussions to his own passion for his own right about the world. Plus, most affectionate a sweet person. He's not perfect of course but I'm very proud of him x

CaviarAndCigarettes · 30/08/2020 23:10

My three year old very enthusiastically believes she can break dance.
She cannot.. yet

MooseBreath · 30/08/2020 23:11

They all sound like such amazing, funny kids! It's so nice to hear the genuinely good things sometimes. Smile
