What is your favourite thing about your child(ren)?

We all know our children can be a lot to handle... Early morning, messy houses, picky eaters, and moody teenagers can be enough to drive you insane. So I thought a light-hearted thread might be fun to share the weird and wonderful things our children do that makes the drudgery of parenting worthwhile!

I'll start: DS's (just tiny at 3 months) lip quivers any time someone picks him up. He also chats happily with a stuffed spider more than with people.

.. just to elucidate.. kindness to siblings. (Never once have they been unkind , not, rowed or been nasty to each other ) .. which I know is unusual.. but it is nevertheless true. Which has made my child rearing experience nothing less than wonderful.
Age difference birth, 22 months 4 yrs and 7 months..

lachy · 30/08/2020 23:17

Oh god, I couldn't pick one thing.

DD melts my heart daily, she's got a button nose and beautiful earlobes*, which I regularly nibble. The child is just gorgeous.

She's very kind, she's bright, funny and a pleasure to be around.

  • Note...I obviously don't hurt her when I nibble her!
Jemimatheragdoll · 30/08/2020 23:20

That they're now adults Grin

When they were little I loved how cuddly they were & how they loved me to read to them. Tbf, dc3 is still very cuddly!

Love this post - OP, that lip quiver 💕

The way my 3 year old makes up fairy tales - watching her mind work (not quite as quickly as her mouth yet which makes for hilarious stories).

The way my 6 month old stares at me like I’m the most amazing thing he’s ever seen and reaches out to touch my face (when he’s feeding).

stormystormysky · 30/08/2020 23:23

My almost 2 year old is just adorable. He has the squishiest face and the biggest eyes, he’s like a tiny version of my DH

Longdistance · 30/08/2020 23:28

When dds get together and start plotting and giggling. They’re as thick as thieves sometimes. They’re 11 and 9 and one school year apart, so they’re friends too ❤️❤️

TheFutureIs · 30/08/2020 23:28

My nearly 4 year old is such a generous little thing. Give her some sweeties and you'll get some back. She offers other people a go on her ice cream
She's very funny too, and gives the best hugs.

Howcanwedoitall · 30/08/2020 23:31

This is a lovely thread.

My first boy aged 4 makes me laugh every single day. He has the cheekiest smile. He is so kind and patient with his 2 younger siblings.

My girl of 2. She's so cuddly, loves kisses and hugs and calls me her best friend. So sensitive and so lady like.

My baby of 1. Loves his mom. Gives me huge hugs. Has the heartiest laugh that just makes you laugh with him.

Honestly they make my life so much richer and happier

Sevo7 · 30/08/2020 23:39

How sensitive and considerate my eldest is towards others, especially his little sister and step brother, he’s amazing with them. He’s also so loving towards me and always wants a cuddle and to tell me he loves me.

My toddler just lights up my life, she is so funny and mischievous and we seem to share a similar sense of humour that means we both end up in fits of giggles. I also love the way that when she’s excited she does this high stepping walk that makes her look like a chicken Grin and the way her face lights up when she see’s me Smile

Mammyloveswine · 30/08/2020 23:41

My 4 year old clambers into bed with me every morning "for snuggles"... he's so polite and has beautiful manners.. he's so inquisitive..he had the most beautiful blue eyes.

My 2 year old is quite possibly the cutest child ever, honestly he's like something from a film.. his little chat is just adorable... his smile would melt the coldest of hearts..

My boys drive me mad but they are beautiful, polite, happy, loving children.

SylvanianFrenemies · 30/08/2020 23:44

Their friendship with each other. They have 5 years between them (9&4) but adore each other, and laugh so much together.

Bridecilla · 30/08/2020 23:55

Only have 1 ds. I love how loving he is - still sits on our laps for a snuggle and is always spontaneously saying he loves us. Heart melty

MuchTooTired · 30/08/2020 23:59

Love this thread! I’m sat here trying to think of my favourite thing about my DTs, and am feeling all warm and fuzzy with love trying to narrow it down.

I can’t. So, my favourite thing about them is they’re my kids. They’re hilarious, kind, loving little people who despite being raised the same have completely different personalities and interests, and they bring so much joy to my life. We’re on this massive adventure together and I really look forward to the future to see what they do next!

I’m off to check them watch them sleeping now Smile

Kaiserin · 31/08/2020 00:38

Their boundless enthusiasm and imagination.

Stompythedinosaur · 31/08/2020 01:26

How much they love each other. Their capacity for kindness to each other and to our animals. Their fierce determination when they think something is wrong.

OrangeGeckoWithBlackSpots · 31/08/2020 01:38

How different they all are.

I have three, all adults now, and they are completely different in every way. It is so interesting that children who have been brought up by the same parents, in the same house, went to the same school, lived the same lives, can be such individuals. Everything about them is interesting; their attitudes, their beliefs, their politics, their opinions on almost everything differs.

It's a fascinating and humbling insight into humanity.

Also - no matter how different they are, as adults they love each other unquestioningly and back each other up in pretty much everything, which is also fascinating to watch (considering how much they hated each other as small children Grin).

Tillygetsit · 31/08/2020 01:38

This is such a lovely thread. My ds is caring, very quirky and so curious about the world around him. Dd1 is a sunny, chirpy bundle of love and dd2 is definitely going to be the comedian. I love her pudgy little hands excitedly reaching for a cuddle.

Guineapigbridge · 31/08/2020 01:48

Lovely soft cheeks.
They're unexpectedly funny.
Creative.
Kissable.
They smell nice.
They're unabashedly themselves.

ClinkyMonkey · 31/08/2020 01:58

DS1(12) - his enthusiasm and his sense of fairness.
DS2(8) - his humour and his affection.

MattBerrysHair · 31/08/2020 08:14

Ds1 (12) - his empathy and non-judgementalness. He automatically tries to understand where everyone is coming from. Last week one of his friends came out to him and DS1 was so accepting, caring and reassuring. The friend hasn't told another soul yet.

DS2 (9) - he's quirky and hilarious. It's like being in an episode of The Mighty Boosh. He smells lovely too.

ilovehalloumi · 31/08/2020 08:29

My DD8 is so quirky and funny, she makes me laugh multiple times a day. Plus she gives the BEST snuggles.

MooseBreath · 31/08/2020 09:15

@CaviarAndCigarettes She sounds hilarious!

quarentini · 31/08/2020 09:27

Dd1 28 will find the fun in any situation.
She's always smiling and happy.
Dd2 24 always sees the good in people.
She's so sensitive.
