I know it's still August, but it might as well be October, the heating is on and I'm drinking spiced hot chocolate.
Does anyone else feel like the seasons have shifted? Spring was so warm and dry, and now we're at the tail end of summer and it's colder than it should be. (I don't actually mind though, I hate hot weather.)
Also I'm looking forward to autumn, and it's just over two months to Halloween. Yay! Grin

@Butterer

Yeah, I've been feeling like the seasons are shifting for a few years now.
It's weird though as early March is always freezing and bad weather and early August you tend to get at least week of hot weather (it was baking hot down south for much of August). But late March was really nice and warm and late August it's been quite cold and crisp.

Once you get into September it's noticeably more dark.

I remember a warm November when we went away for the weekend and had a walk in the countryside in just t shirts

Also, this time of year, if you put a tad of Zoflora in with your washing ( in the detergent softener drawer with softener, not directly on clothes) and then dry on radiators, your house smells lovely and fresh!

Zoflora do a winter scent called Festive Fireside. Nutmeggy and cinnamoney . Lovely on the radiators at chrimbo. Makes the house smell festive. They also do a Festive Pine one , which i also get. Smells like xmas tree's and what i imagine Colorado smells like in December.

I have never been to Colorado but i am sure it smells kind of Christmassy and pine tree'y and snow flakey! Anyway, Zoflora winter fragrances nails it!

I’d cook with that I’m afraid. But it looks lovely.
@SapphireSeptember - I’m only here to say I’m glad that someone else remembers how warm it was on Halloween 2014! I know it’s easy enough to look up online but none of my friends seem to remember that we were out in silly costumes and not cold at all!
I took the kids trick or treating while wearing sandals in 2014.

Does it not make you sweat? I love the idea but I think I’d wake up roasting in the night.

(Also (Debbie Downer alert) if it’s some sort of acrylic then I guess it sheds microplastics in the wash? SorrySad)

I agree about Bonfire Night - you used to need hats, scarves and gloves and you could see your breath! The hot potatoes and sausages you’d get were a lovely treat on a cold night. Now it’s mild enough to leave your coat unzipped and we’ve often been roasting in Wookiee. Either that or it’s tipping down with rain (but still mild).

@ListenLinda

This time of year always brings a certain feeling for me, I don’t know if I can describe it or have the word for it.

But it is always about new beginnings, looking back but a definate change and a reminder of school times and getting ready and organised for the new school/academic year. The air smells different, the sky looks different. It is the only time I believe you can really see/sense the change in seasons.
I love the period from early September all the way up to Christmas. My birthday is late September and we usually have the last few days of Sunshine and then the jumpers come back out.

I know exactly what you mean about a certain feeling that is not quite definable. The Welsh word hiraeth is a good one for this. There is no direct translation into English, it means homesickness, but also something deeper, a sense of longing in your soul for something that has gone, something you may not even be able to identify.

No,washes beautifully, no iron! Wash, dry and put it back on. Freed me from ironing bedding!

Not hot at all, i have 10.5 duvet all yr round. I need to be cool as peri/now menopausal. The covers are lightweight but fluffy. It is the duvet you need to look at if you think you may be too hot. Lighter weight duvet and these covers , fine.

My youngest wanted these and i am now a fan having pooh poohed initially. So lovely to get into each night, wash well and no iron. Lightweight bedding but fluffy and dreamy. I am referring to the Dumelm ones cannot comment on others.

The teddy bedding is light, its the duvet you need to look at of worried about being hot. Its cosy .

My horse has definitely sensed the change of season, he’s been loopy all weekend

KatherineofTarragon · 31/08/2020 18:03

@Inthebleakmidwinteriwouldsing Sorry, just seen your plastics concern. You will need to investigate the manufacture of this bedding if you have specific concerns.
