What are you planning to do the first day your dc are back at school if you're a SAHM?

I've been at home since March as shielded looking after 3 dc (5, 11, 13) and doing my best to home school them whilst studying for a qualification of my own. I don't go back to college until a week after they are all back in school so I have a week to do whatever outside of school run hours. I have a list of household jobs as long as my arm but want to make sure I take some time for myself. The week will fly so I want to mend the most of it. What are your plans?

Clean, declutter, check which charity shops are accepting donations, finish my needlepoint and start a new one.

But like a pp said, I will only begin when my 3 have officially disappeared through the door.

MinnieMountain · 30/08/2020 17:56

I work PT. I'm going to swim, go for walks by the river and tidy up the garden.
After that, cook Indian food for the freezer and declutter.
DH is WFH now, so if he dares to interrupt my favourite radio programmes (he has form) he doesn't get any of said freezer food.

olderthanyouthink · 30/08/2020 18:26

Nursery not school but...

Eye test, DD broke my glasses and I can't wrangle a toddler in Specsavers (DP is always working atm)

Sit in quiet and read a magazine

Job hunt (being made redundant hence now a SAHM)

I've got a couple of weeks until he's in full time, but, be in the quiet, watch the TV, going to book to get my nails done, nap, deep clean, get prepped for Christmas. I'm half looking forward to it and half sad at losing my little sidekick all day, every day.

Rhinofeet · 30/08/2020 19:36

The house is absolute rubble around me! Us all being in the house for an extended period has taken its toll. I have a load of diy stuff like mending door handles/ change bulbs, spot cleaning carpet stains.

The general cleaning can wait an extra week as I'm having my hair cut and coloured too then spending 'some time' with DH as kids have run feral and haven't been going to bed till late so no privacy.

FromTheAllotment · 30/08/2020 19:40

Yy to haircut and carpet cleaning and worrying about forgetting to go and pick the children up again. Must set alarms.

FromTheAllotment · 30/08/2020 19:43

Oh and go through all the important-but-not-urgent emails sitting in my inbox. If it’s not going to explode before September then it hasn’t been looked at, basically.

Spudlet · 30/08/2020 19:45

I have a sports massage booked. I was supposed to have one just after lockdown started. My calves are so tight at the moment... it’s going to hurt like hell but feel so damn good afterwards. I can’t wait!

lakesidesummer · 30/08/2020 19:45

DC went back on Monday.
Week one was deep clean and decluttering of rooms on ground floor.
Next week is rooms on top floor.
Then I need to go to an optician, dentist etc.

Mumski45 · 30/08/2020 20:15

Good grief I will definitely not be cleaning. When I've finished wfh in the morning I will go for a nice long guilt free bike ride.

Serena1977 · 30/08/2020 20:45

Cleaning.

SillyYak · 30/08/2020 20:53

I’m going finally get to spend some 1:1 time with my beautiful lockdown baby (3 months) once DD (7) is back at school. And also hope he naps a bit so I can do a bit of decluttering and cleaning.

MinnieMountain · 30/08/2020 21:47

Oh yes, and going to the dentist and the optician.

DorisDaisyMay · 30/08/2020 21:48

Have liposuction.

Pippapotomus · 30/08/2020 21:55

@Laiste my old house had sodding wood chip wallpaper. Decades later we still reminisce about how much of a ball ache it is to remove whenever decorating is mentioned.

And a wall of cork board. For almost a year we were pulling cork off.

My plan is to do some gardening, weather permitting. My local pool has lane swimming, so I am going to book myself an hour in the slow lane.

EdHelpPls · 30/08/2020 21:59

In your situation ( and assuming you feel confident being out and about after shielding,) I'd go for a nosey about the library, shops or a museum, have a coffee and big slice of cake and read a book, get hair cut and arrange to meet with friends for walks, lunch, cinema etc.

What I'll actually be doing in my 2 free hours is
A 5 mile walk 3 times a week
Meal prepping for freezer
Deep cleaning house.
Probably a haircut if I can choose a style

That'll prob keep me busy til end of september!

Mol1628 · 30/08/2020 22:03

Coffee with friends.

Cleaning and listening to music/podcasts as loud as I want

Eating a meal by myself.

After a couple of chilled days I need to get on with some wallpaper stripping.

SistemaAddict · 30/08/2020 22:16

I am definitely not happy being out and about. The school run will take all my emotional energy. I went in a shop yesterday for the first time since March. I don't plan on doing it again anytime soon. Thank god for Waitrose, Amazon and the local mutual aid group who deliver my health food shop order and prescriptions.
Dd2 and ds go back two days before dd1 so we are going to enjoy it just being us, go fir a bike ride, clear out the garage, and binge watch the x-files.
My first day properly alone, I will fill my time with essential cleaning and tidying and catching up on some tv shows. Then the following week I'll get stuck into my list of jobs. Decorate, clean carpets, sort out cupboards and wardrobes, deep clean, declutter.

Getting a fucking massage that's what.

jessstan2 · 30/08/2020 23:46

I no longer have child at school but I know I would have gone back to bed and had a good sleep.

Ishihtzuknot · 30/08/2020 23:51

Not a sahm but I won’t be returning to work for a while. I’ll be binge watching rubbish tv and redecorating the house. Enjoy your first real childfree peace since March everyone Wine Grin

BouleBaker · 31/08/2020 08:26

The first day of them being back I am going to stop. No plans or expectations. Just stop and be still.

I’ll probably end up tidying or something but I need that space to stop first.

Louisainlockdown · 31/08/2020 09:05

I will still have a baby at home but hoping to do massive declutter of wardrobes and general crap gathered for last 6 months.

wendz86 · 31/08/2020 09:57

Not a sahm but on annual leave Thursday and don’t work Friday . Thursday plan is lots of cleaning and Friday gym and shopping . Also lots of cups of tea.

mum2jakie · 01/09/2020 11:59

Not a SAHM but am on annual leave this week and WFH beginning of next week. Can't wait to crack on with cleaning and decluttering as much as I can!
