What are you planning to do the first day your dc are back at school if you're a SAHM?

I've been at home since March as shielded looking after 3 dc (5, 11, 13) and doing my best to home school them whilst studying for a qualification of my own. I don't go back to college until a week after they are all back in school so I have a week to do whatever outside of school run hours. I have a list of household jobs as long as my arm but want to make sure I take some time for myself. The week will fly so I want to mend the most of it. What are your plans?

@RedCatBlueCat. Got to be in it to win it...good luck!

Can't believe how many of us are so excited to clean the house !

FloweringFlowers · 30/08/2020 16:30

I’m not a sham, however I have been wfh, I will enjoy the peace of being able to fully concentrate, to really dig in with a new project.... however, I really hate working alone for any length of time and think I will start really missing the office once the kids are no longer here all day...

PCol · 30/08/2020 16:40

I'm not a SAHP but I am going to massively enjoy the peace and quite working from home and also having juts DH in the house also working from home, without all the kids. We are planning a nice lunch and perhaps some leisurely sex in the kitchen Grin (both work for US companies so on calls in the evening as well before I get accused of shirking)

but I am also looking forward to finally being able to sort out the hoyse on day 2

I am not quite a SAHM but my work is now almost nothing due to Covid. So:
Clean, then clean some more, then declutter then clean
Visit a friend who will by then hopefully be recovering at home from an op and need some help with stuff
Do the million and one jobs which DH and I have been too worn down by lockdown to tackle, eg defrost freezer, book car for MOT, sort out blocked credit card (was so tired one day I couldn’t do my PIN and I’ve just basically managed without it since then).

Pretty much everything that’s not basic survival is now on the “when they’re back at school” list. Clogged vacuum cleaner? We can live a few days without vacuuming, I’ll do it when they’re back at school. Camping stuff all needs cleaning and putting away? Spread it all out in the garage to air, I’ll sort it when they’re back at school. Beds need changing? Ah fuck it, it’s only a few extra days, I’ll sort it when.... etc Wink

Come home - do a workout IN PEACE. Eat breakfast and drink coffee IN PEACE. I really fancied the cinema, but none of our local ones have showings that start early enough for me to make the afternoon school run, so that is a non-starter.

Friday, DH has the day off so we're going to ... ahem ... take full advantage of an empty house.

BogRollBOGOF · 30/08/2020 16:52

I had a few hours without them last week. One was in sports club, the other at his friends. I managed a 2 hour chat with DH! I didn't even fit my run in.

I have 3 out of 4 weeks left to train for a race and a shit-ton of housework to do. Obviously the race is the priority as rats have so far not infested the place Wink

Normally I'd have things like helping in school, and more evening busying about to do, so while I'm looking forwards to some weekly structure at long last, it's still a long way from my normal.

BogRollBOGOF · 30/08/2020 16:54

DH is also deferring his bank holiday from tomorrow to Friday so we can enjoy it together with 5 hours of peace Grin

minipie · 30/08/2020 16:57

Exercise. I’m really bad about fitting in exercise as I don’t really like it so it’s always at the back of my to do list. With full school days to myself I will have no excuse.

Also got various house and garden jobs to get done

I was supposed to be starting work in Sep but the tentative job offer from my old boss back in Feb has quietly evaporated...

Disfordarkchocolate · 30/08/2020 16:58

Definitely not clean!!

Well, I'll clean the bath and then have a nice hot bath while I think of ways to get my husband out of the house. Than I'm going to do some embroidery and make Flapjack.

CruCru · 30/08/2020 16:58

I have a bra fitting booked. All my underwear is completely unacceptable.

Spied · 30/08/2020 17:01

I'm going to spend the first day indulging myself, reading, watching crap morning tv, face mask and making a lovely lunch.
Day 2 onwards I'll be continuing my job search hoping to find something pt I can fit in between school runs Hmm(lost job due to the pandemic.)

Franticbutterfly · 30/08/2020 17:01

Party!

copernicium · 30/08/2020 17:02

I'm a childminder so will be working but I can't wait to just have the babies to myself without teenagers ruining it all Grin

NoWordForFluffy · 30/08/2020 17:03

We've hired a Rug Doctor carpet cleaner as the downstairs is grim. It's rock'n'roll round our way!

mynameiscalypso · 30/08/2020 17:04

Following this with interest - DS starts nursery next week and I'm not going back to work until Jan so I guess that makes me a SAHM for now. He's just over a year old and I don't know what I'll do with myself. We've had the odd meal/evening out without him but, with lockdown especially, I've been with him pretty much 24/7. I have exams at the end of October so I will have to start studying for them really but I'm definitely going to enjoy a day or two of just sitting and not chasing after a toddler the whole time!

ThatDamnScientist · 30/08/2020 17:06

I will only have a small window each day as my journey is an hour each way (so four hours total a day 😭) but I intend to read the book I have tried to read during the whole of lockdown (kids meant I haven't got past the first chapter!😂) and I will do some pre-reading for my modules. So basically I will be reading with the odd nap thrown in for good measure.

Fishfingersandwichplease · 30/08/2020 17:08

Sit in a dark room and slowly rock backwards and forwards

CoronaIsShit · 30/08/2020 17:19

I’ll still have 3 at home (teens/young adult) as college is not back until the 14th, and that’s only going to be part time Sad, and DD will be WFH until the end of October at least! They are the ones who make the most messes (kitchen and bathrooms Angry) but I’m relieved DS3 will be occupied at school so I don’t have to stress about him on being screens so much and have to pry him off them.

I so miss the days when they were all at school from 8.45 to 3.15 and I could clean in the AM and it would stay clean until they all got in!

Macarena1990 · 30/08/2020 17:20

No cleaning for me - I've been keeping on top of it so I don't waste precious alone time on it!!

My plans so far - catch up on some sewing jobs, go out for lunch with friends and have them over for lunch, get my ear pierced, write a Christmas to do list, go out on my bike in peace and do some batch cooking and baking without everyone else wanting to get involved.

StarShapedWindow · 30/08/2020 17:27

Go to the shops without hearing ‘can I have this?’ every five minutes, watch a tv programme or film that’s not PG during the day, not have to worry about what everyone will eat for lunch, read without interruption, listen to the radio station I want and to just be alone for a few hours.

SparkyBlue · 30/08/2020 17:31

I'm going to get started on a major declutter. The house is an absolute tip right now. I still have a one year old at home but it will be unbelievable bliss to be minus the other two for a few hours lol.

MarshaBradyo · 30/08/2020 17:34

I will appreciate listening to something on R4 and hearing all of it.

AlohaMolly · 30/08/2020 17:38

I’m not quite a SAHM but I ‘only’ work 2.5 days a week. It’ll be so strange without DS(4) around and I suspect I will miss him!

Like the majority here, I plan to CLEAN and I also want to tidy/finish the garden. I want to fix my sewing machine and make some face masks and hopefully be able to invest some time in building my knitting/sewing business. I want to start writing again.

The theory was that I would look for a new job/take on more hours this September but we’re now just going to see how DS’ school deal with covid and what the autumn brings...

Laiste · 30/08/2020 17:52

I shall sit and stare around me in wonder. It will be the first time i've been alone in the house since mid March.

Then - i'll go up and carry on getting the fucking woodchip wall paper off DDs bedroom walls (This too feels like it's been going on since mid March Hmm) but without constant interuptions.

You know what i worry about? Remembering to go for her at 3pm. I'm just so out of the habit of clock watching!
