Banter or being an arsehole

Sixlargeeggs · 29/08/2020 14:23

Both are men

Friend A writes on his facebook status

‘(Wife’s name is pregnant!’

Friend B writes on friend A status

‘Tell me who done it mate and I’ll sort them out’

Friend A blocks friend B

Arseholery or banter?

Juvenile twatishness.
When a friend of my husband's told him his girlfriend of a few months was pregnant he asked "is it good news for you?" When his friend said yes my husband congratulated him and said how pleased he was for him.

Sounds like A maybe had his nose put out of joint
...feeling the comment stole attention away from his post. Hense a knee jerk reaction. Unless maybe he'd been growing apart from B for a while and the risky comment was just the final nail in the coffin.

Who are you in all this @Sixlargeeggs

Well, yes!

Hi friends, wife is pregnant

Who has she been fucking behind your back?

That would tend to put noses out of joint.

Probably this tbh

Arsehole.

Who wants a nasty comment like that on Facebook when they announce happy news for all to see? It's horrible, plus designed to put the attention on to the arsehole, not on the happy news announced by the couple.

It's a stupid joke. Unless A has a massive story of wife cheating, it's way too much drama over a crude joke.

I love it. That's just my sense of humour! 🤣🤣

But you have to choose your audience and it seems he doesn't know his friend's SOH as well as he thought.

GisAFag · 29/08/2020 15:12

I thought that was a funny response. If the 2 have shared same humour history then it's a massive over reaction. Know your audience

Banter. And why the hell would anyone 'announce' a pregnancy on facebook? It's just a throwaway comment for a bit of a smile. A is over-reacting.

Banter

Banter; it’s funny.

Everyone has different senses of humour so if you don’t find it funny that’s okay, but the comments about it being disrespectful and all that bullshit are just ridiculous.

It could just get away with being banter if it was amongst themselves at the pub perhaps? On a public forum, very inappropriate.

So many uptight people! It was a joke. Person A is the bigger knob. Must be a right barrel of laughs going out with some of the posters on this thread Hmm

I wouldn’t like it, but there’s a chance we will end up having to use donor sperm or adopt. If we used a donor we wouldn’t tell anyone so a comment like that could cause upset. They might be in a similar position secretly.

Yes. I am uptight. I hate all humour that requires a victim.

I don't find other people's distress or discomfort amusing and can't understand anyone who does!

A might have over reacted. However, a pregnancy announcement is not the time nor the place for banter. If B can’t realise that, he’s probably the type of person who is always ‘bantering’ and this is probably (rightly so, IMO) the final straw.

However, I think most banter is borderline arsehole. My brother is one for banter. If you’re his friend, you’d probably call him a lad. If you’re not his friend, you’d probably call him a dickhead.

I found it funny so must be a terrible person :p

Commenter needs to read the room but if that's a standard thing he would say to him in real life, I don't see the issue. Its quite obviously a joke.

Something between arseholery and banter IMO. Not funny (which banter should be) but clearly trying to be funny.

I don't really do Facebook. DH doesn't use social media at all. So the idea of posting personal information on it is a little alien. I'd probably block them too, but I'm not sure I know anyone who would do this...

B is saying to A in a round about way that A has been cuckolded and is making a joke out of it at completely the wrong moment. I would say definitely a case of B being an arsehole.

Call me humourless if you want!

It's a bit of a gross way to take the shine off a lovely announcement, but that's Facebook for you. I would have just deleted the comment not the friend.

I hate that word Banter. It is used by people to say mean and cruel things to people and dress it up as a joke. They should ban that word. I can’t stand it!

Report
bringbacksideburns · 29/08/2020 15:43

It's unfunny banter not worth a block.

Is there past history as I'm thinking the person annoys them generally - hence the swift block.

Overreaction.
