I've realised that now that we both WFH, sharing the home office, I am in the same room as my DH for approximately 22 hours in every 24. I do love him and I'm amazed/impressed we've not killed each other yet, but some days I just crave an empty house, just for a day. Anyone else?

In the next couple of weeks dh will be wfh and all the dc will be at nursery or school. Ah man. That will be nice. Also taking time off and we can go out for lunch. Love them but it has been a long time.

HorsesDogsNails · 28/08/2020 20:30

I hear you! DH and I have both been wfh in the same room since March, we are impressively rubbing along alright as co-workers... We're getting a quote for a garage conversion into an office for us both as I can't see either of us going back to the office full-time any time soon. One thing though, I get frowned at if I make noise when he's on a call but he tries to talk to me when I'm on a call - what's that about?

I am very precious about my early morning dog walk ON MY OWN even if I have to get up pretty early to make sure no-one comes with me!

DominaShantotto · 28/08/2020 20:30

They are all driving me mad now - I can't work in the chaos and thankfully uni is finished till October (I deferred some exams) but I've taken to hiding and trying to get some prep work done in the conservatory - and they ALL bloody come and join me and witter on about the TV I'm watching and what I'm doing and they are driving me insane.

I spent 3 hours at the hairdressers today - bliss!

Coffeeandcrumpet · 28/08/2020 20:35

YES! For me this has been one of the most stressfull parts of lock down, even when I'm not working there is no space to call my own and sit quietly cos the kids are down stairs dh is in our bedroom. Whereever I go there is someone!

Whatdowehaveherethen · 28/08/2020 20:36

@CrunchyNutNC 😂 we already have different bedrooms but lockdown has made me feel sorry for that lonely single room at his parents house. I've even suggested he move home for a bit as it's closer to his work if needs to go in.

I've no idea how couples who don't/can't work cope. I only applied for my job to give me some breathing space. I figure I must have done something really horrible in a previous life to deserve this.

Enko · 28/08/2020 20:48

Iam naturally a late sleeper but I have taken to get up at 6 30 on a Saturday to be allowed to sit in the lounge in complete silence for 1 hour whilst dh drives DS to work. (I will cry in 3 weeks when he stops working there)

MitziK · 28/08/2020 22:42

Mine was thinking of applying to wfh permanently in April.

By the end of May, it was very clear to him that if he wished to live to see another day and for the TV to remain this side of a non opening window, he was going back to work the moment they reopened.

I like him a lot. I don't like endless reruns of fucking Nightrider and The A-Team. Especially not when I'm trying to work. And they were on three days ago as well, and are playing on a constant fucking loop, so it's a rerun of something that was last watched no more than 72 hours ago.

I've been back on site part time for a month. It's been blissful to have whole days where I get up under my own steam, drink black coffee in silence, travel to work and then sit and get things done in a largely empty site in peace and quiet before coming back to an empty house for another four hours.

AND I've started getting at least one weekend day to myself as well, as they've changed their opening hours to 7 days a week now because of their backlog. That will be keeping me sane when I'm back fulltime from next week.

DominaShantotto · 28/08/2020 22:46

Oh fucking hell mine's been watching sodding Nightrider as well.

managedmis · 28/08/2020 23:05

I went cycling on my own today (to get a break from him) and he was all upset I didn't invite him Confused

Sonrienta · 28/08/2020 23:08

I saw needed to know it wasn’t just me. Thank you all!

Ilovesausages · 28/08/2020 23:15

We have all been home together since early March. I’m amazed I’ve coped actually. I’m so looking forward to the kids to go back and having some space.

ShaunaTheSheep · 28/08/2020 23:17

I've been collecting DC from their holiday job, and have taken to arriving early so I can listen to a podcast and do some hand-sewing in the car. With a travel mug of tea. Smile

frustrationcentral · 28/08/2020 23:19

Yep! DH announced earlier that his company have said WFH will now become the norm. Bloody great as I only work PT so he's going to be under my feet more than ever. Also bloody annoying that it's happened just when we've finished all school runs ( no more primary!) so I can't even see that as a benefit Grin

MountainDweller · 29/08/2020 09:09

Oh yes! He's been unemployed since Feb and I've so had enough. Luckily he is about to start a new job and will be in the office 50% of the time. I suspect that once he's WFH he'll become even more annoying as he'll be on loud calls a lot of the time. Once he has his schedule I'm going to organise all my outings for the days he's at home Grin

He does make me lots of cups of tea though so not all bad!

Daleksatemyshed · 29/08/2020 10:45

@CrunchyNutNC I know how you feel. I'm nearly at retirement age but my DP is younger and I was SO looking forward to all that time at home to myself, now he's WFH and doesn't want to go back. We get on really well but now I'm the one still travelling to work while he works at home. Curse you Covid! Smile

BlackeyedSusan · 29/08/2020 10:50

this is one of those threads where just the title tells you everything you need to know!

thecatsthecats · 29/08/2020 11:29

My friends and I all raised a glass to our marriages surviving the past few months.

We've got on really well, all things considered, including the fact I just want him sodding gone at least once a day.

I really like the fact that he's a late sleeper. He's still in bed now.

Purpleice · 29/08/2020 11:37

Mine’s been working from home 3 days out of 5. I was really looking forward to one day last week when he would be in work and my dd would be out. A day on my own at home for the first time since March! He got ill and decided to work from home. I’ve embraced gardening.

Lilybet1980 · 29/08/2020 11:37

I look forward to taking the bins out. Only time I step outside without a small child.

BackforGood · 29/08/2020 11:45

We work in different rooms - wouldn't work in the same room with all the meetings he seems to need to have, and the occasional ones I have, plus phone calls etc - but we have found it better since we settled into a 'pretend the other one isn't there and crack on as if we were alone in the house' agreement. Just eat when need to, have break when need to, etc., without feeling judged by the other one.

There was a thread a couple of days ago where OP was soooo excited to be having 4 days alone in the house, as her dh was taking the dc away. There were pages of other posters being jealous.

I think most of us need our own space for some of the day or some of the week.

Lilybet1980 · 29/08/2020 12:09

DP has just taken himself off to bed because he’s feeling unwell. YEEEESSSSSS!

Disfordarkchocolate · 29/08/2020 12:12

I love my husband, never bored by him and now know that retirement will be fine. Mainly because we won't be together as much as this.

I am desperate for a whole day on my own but it's not happening any day soon.

Kaiserin · 29/08/2020 12:46

Why don't you go for a walk?

Disfordarkchocolate · 29/08/2020 13:01

I don't want a walk. I want to have a bath in peace, clean the kitchen and have it stay that way, not come into a room and see Judge Judy on the TV and read/sew without interuption. Oh, and work without him finding something to tell/ask me every 20 minutes.

Justgivemewine · 29/08/2020 13:15

I hear you all. I love him to bits but needs my own space/time.
Tbf dh spends most of the day in the box room and only comes out for food etc but he is. still. in. the. house.

It’s not the same as having the house to myself.

Work have just told him that as restrictions ease he will need to start doing site visits.
He is a bit 😕about it.....
I’m a lot 😃about it
