Cleaning fees

Hi Mums...I’ve got a question that might not seem quite “mum related” but I work full time as a self employed cleaner and I absolutely love it.
Most of my income goes on my 20 months baby’s nursery fee(I know some of you might think that I should instead spend time with my son,but it means I get to keep my job plus nursery fees won’t be so high as soon as he turns 2)
All was good till a few weeks ago when someone pointed that I’m charging way less than what other cleaning companies charge (I’m currently £12 per hour and it’s has been brought to my attention that normally companies charge between £17-£20 per hour???)
Now I’m a bit disappointed and not as happy as before thinking that I’m underpaid as I know I provide the best service and work really really long hours ...so how much do you guys pay for cleaning if I may ask?
I want this to be private as I don’t want anybody on social media seeing this 😬
Thank you and hope not to disturb with my question 😖

Depends. Are you insured? DBS checked? You can't really just whack your prices up without giving some value to the client for that.

NaturalStudy · 26/08/2020 19:56

£14.50. £17- £20 seems a little high to me outside of London.

Evilwasps · 26/08/2020 19:57

I pay £13 an hour. Central Scotland.

£13 an hour. North east. That’s direct to the cleaners as they own their own business, it could be more for an agency as they’d take their own cut.

JaneyGotAGun · 26/08/2020 19:59

I pay £15 per hour in the South East.
I guess is depends where you are

brimfullofasha · 26/08/2020 20:00

I pay £13 per hour in the midlands.

cameocat · 26/08/2020 20:01

I pay £12 per hour south west. But we do give holiday pay with that.

VaggieMight · 26/08/2020 20:01

£12 per hour Yorkshire and south west

BuffaloCauliflower · 26/08/2020 20:01

I’m Surrey/south west London (very expensive area) and all the individual cleaners Im aware of are about £12 an hour. That’s what I paid my last cleaner.

The higher cost ones would be businesses that manage a number of cleaners. You might have two cleaners at once, and they’d also have automatic cover if a cleaner was ill maybe? But I wouldn’t pay £20 an hour.

MoonBase10 · 26/08/2020 20:02

12.50 an hour for 2 hours a week
Manchester

AmIAWeed · 26/08/2020 20:02

If I was paying that I would expect an agency fully insured and able to get me a replacement cleaner in terms of sickness or Holiday. I only pay £11 an hour, but know that the lower rate means a service isn't guaranteed

underneaththeash · 26/08/2020 20:06

I pay £79 for our house to be cleaned weekly - takes 2 cleaners 5.5hours between them - so about £14/hour.
They provide replace the cleaners if sick and knit have 2 week off for Christmas. Fully insured and DBS checked. We live in Bucks.

OverTheRainbow88 · 26/08/2020 20:13

£12 an hour

hedgehogger1 · 26/08/2020 20:18

I pay £11/ hour. You may more when it's through a company as you're also paying for company overheads/ insurance/ someone to cover in sickness or holiday. They also provide all equipment and products. A lone cleaner can't compare to a company unless they offer the same

cheeseychovolate · 26/08/2020 20:21

I charge £15 an hour. I'm insured and provide all cleaning products.

aShinyNewUsername · 26/08/2020 20:21

My sister uses a self employed cleaner and she is £12 per hour.

My friend owns a small commercial cleaning company and they charge offices £18 an hour but she has insurances, expensive equipment, a fleet of vans with their logos and they sponsor a team and a taxi!

Toddlerteaplease · 26/08/2020 20:23

£10 an hour in Nottingham. If you are in my area I'd gladly have you!

Toddlerteaplease · 26/08/2020 20:24

I also pay £25 a month agency fee.

Mydarlingsleepthief · 26/08/2020 20:25

£15 an hour Manchester

dewisant2020 · 26/08/2020 20:29

I live in the the south and pay £11.50 per hour for our cleaner.
I certainly wouldn't be paying £17 - £20 per hour

eurochick · 26/08/2020 20:31

£12ph here - London/Surrey borders

butterry · 26/08/2020 20:33

£12 an hour for 3 hours weekly, she uses our cleaning products and equipment. She's self-employed but we pay her sick pay if rarely she is off sick, holiday pay whilst we are away, 2 weeks holiday pay when she is away and 2 weeks bonus a year at Christmas. We pay these extras as she is valued and has been with us 5 years.

PastelPompoms · 26/08/2020 20:33

We pay £15 a hour for our lovely cleaner. She provides everything (but due to Covid I am currently providing my own vacuum, mop and bucket).

Northernsoullover · 26/08/2020 20:34

South Wales I charge 14.00 per hour. They don't get a replacement when I go on holidays but then they don't pay me for their holidays either. I'm insured too.

MichelleDiaconu1989 · 26/08/2020 20:34

Well glad is not as high as I’ve been told ..I also provide all my products and use all my kit and work with a friend and try and cover for each others holiday!
It was easier when before becoming a mum as i never missed a day of cleaning ,now with him being in nursery he always picks up bugs and we’re off sick 🤒
We are in wiltshire by the way 😊
