Is it possible to lose 5 kilos in 4 weeks? My wedding dress has a faux-button zip back and it won't sodding do up.

I think you can do it. Like others have said, ditch carbs and up good quality protein . Plus keep fluid calories to a minimum.

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 24/08/2020 15:55

When people talk about ditching carbs, is that all carbs or just things like bread, rice and pasta?

All carbs

Even if they are wholewheat/beans/ etc no carbs is the way to go.

Nosuchluck · 24/08/2020 16:01

Try and eat the least carbs you can, I think just 20g a day to get things going. A few years ago I had a similar BMI to you and lost 13lbs in a month eating a lot of protein, some veg but not much, tea with a tiny bit of milk in and that’s about it. If I was hungry I’d have ham or tinned fish as a snack. It’s drastic but worked. I felt not great for two weeks and then really good.

FizzyPink · 24/08/2020 16:03

All carbs, have a look at one of the spreadsheets on the low carb bootcamp thread, it explains what is allowed and what isn’t. Basically carbs = sugar and you want to cut out all sugar including things like fruit

Ninkanink · 24/08/2020 16:07

It’s carbs as most people tend to think of them (rice, potatoes, pasta, bread, cakes and biscuits and all sweets, sugar in all forms - including fruit and especially fruit juice, crackers, flatbreads, etc etc etc) but you do get carbohydrates from your vegetable intake.

Bootcamp threads are definitely the way to go. Find the current ‘between bootcamps’ chat thread and there will be people there to advise you.

mamapants · 24/08/2020 16:12

I think that's a lot of pressure to yourself under.
I'd look for a new dress tbh. Sell this one on ebay and get a bigger one. It's a lot to lose in a short space of time and if you don't manage it you'll need a new dress with zero time to sort it out.

rosegoldivy · 24/08/2020 16:17

I was you!!! I went for my dress fitting after losing a good bit of weight after deliberately buying a dress too small (glutton for punishment) it was about 6 weeks before the actual wedding and the fucker still wouldn't fasten. Left in tears and cried for about a day as the dress couldn't be altered out so
I went on exante diet (loosley) for a few weeks it's a keto diet. Cut all carbs and it worked a treat. First few days was a bitch and I wouldn't recommend it long term but I done it after that dress fitting and lost just about a stone and on the day dress fitted perfectly with a good bit of room for a 3 course meal and some epic dance moves!

CatSmith · 24/08/2020 16:24

See if you can find How to lose a stone in 21 days. It was on tv just in the past month. One of the guys lost almost two stone in three weeks.

No booze, no carbs 800-1000 calories daily. A small piece of lean protein and heaps of plain veggies for lunch and dinner, eggs or salmon or fruit for breakfast.

It’s doable, you just have to work quite hard for three weeks.

GetTheStartyParted · 24/08/2020 16:26

Another suggestion for keto here - lost 18lbs in the first 4 weeks, and the water loss meant a lot of bloating disappeared too. Good luck Smile

amusedbush · 24/08/2020 16:28

I lost 40lbs in ten weeks on a meal replacement shake diet a couple of years ago. 21lbs of that was in the first four weeks, so your timeframe
Is definitely doable. It’s not fun but once your body is in ketosis the hunger goes away and only the boredom is left Grin

Widowodiw · 24/08/2020 16:31

You need to get a back up dress- sorry why would you want to spend the run up to your wedding dieting with such a deadline to have to make. Enjoy this time and just get a new dress or get it altered.

Ninkanink · 24/08/2020 16:37

There’s really no need to be bored, though. Especially not in the short term.

Low carb/high fat suits the vast majority of people very well and the vast majority of people likely have a much better quality and much more varied diet whilst eating that way, as it lends itself well to all sorts of lovely foods and dishes. I have low carbed pretty routinely for years and years now and I’m never bored.

No need for the meal replacement route unless there are other circumstances that call for that.

@SeasonallySnowyPeasant I lost just about a full dress size very easily for my wedding earlier this year by going more hardcore low carb for four weeks (bootcamp style) and then doing an egg fast at the end. It wasn’t a hardship at all and I’m confident you can do it too. Just make sure to follow all the bootcamp rules, drink all the water, and trust that the process is working.

DianaT1969 · 24/08/2020 16:46

Just to flag that generally if you don't have much weight to lose, it doesn't come off as fast.

Ninkanink · 24/08/2020 16:51

OP has stated her current weight and it should be easily doable.

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 24/08/2020 16:57

It sounds doable, although DP will have to tackle the delicious Gousto box arriving tomorrow Hmm No fruit and no cashews are going to be a killer though - they were my saviour when I did the Whole 30 a few years ago.

What is the gusto recipe?
Nuts are a good snack, just don’t go mad.

FinallyHere · 24/08/2020 17:00

Another vote for following the MN low card bootcamp. Very easy to follow, it's all in the spreadsheet

When people say 'cut out all carbs' they mean bread, pasta, rice, potatoes.

Low carb bootcamp encourages the consumption of the leafy green vegetables grown above the ground.

If you do follow it for a month, with no alcohol, just be aware that you may become very sensitive to alcohol when you do drink. Wouldn't want you have a glass of something on your wedding morning and blank out the rest of the day.

MobLife · 24/08/2020 17:05

Order a bag of Huel so you can have a complete nutrition supplement that you can reliably calorie count. Drink that and water
Nothing else to be consumed!
Then start exercising

Otherwise, start exercising and cut all portions from tomorrow onwards exactly in half, and drink water

MeanMrMustardSeed · 24/08/2020 17:08

I came on to say look up Micheal Moseley’s lose a stone in 21 days I’m channel 4. It will provide facts and motivation and give you a week to spare!
Best of luck with the wedding.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 24/08/2020 17:22

If you find yourself struggling on low carb then a few strawberries or blueberries helps to take the edge off. Better than getting the sugar cravings and eating biscuits! I've been doing it for a couple of weeks now and I think my clothes are getting looser. Try to keep carbs to between 30 - 50 g per day. I've replaced sugar in coffee with half a teaspoon of xylitol just to take the edge off the bitterness. Before this diet virtually everything I ate was sugar - this takes some getting used to but it is doable.
I would buy another dress and leave the tags on just as a back up plan. You can always return it if you don't need it, but you don't want the pressure of having to slim this close to your wedding.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 24/08/2020 17:23

Be careful with nuts. They are very high calorie, even though they are low carb

KaleJuicer · 24/08/2020 17:27

With this time frame don’t worry so much about the exercise (it will make you hungrier!) just focus on everything going in your mouth. You can do this.

Eat purple grapes! Lots and lots of grapes...
