I have one. Last night I posted because I had a sudden and agonising pain in the ball of my foot. It was like something broke. I went to out of hours and it all turns out to be a condition called 'Metatarsalgia'. It's nerve related and if simple treatments don't work, I'm looking at surgery that may cause complete numbness in the toes for life Hmm Nothing caused it that we know of. I wear sketchers most of the time when not working. Don't even exercise much to cause it.

I was rushing down the stairs about a year ago with some washing to throw in the machine before starting work. Got wrapped in the washing and fell down the stairs! Had to get DP back from work and go to hospital - spent 6 weeks on crutches! Did not see that coming!!

Two years ago DH passed out on a work trip and hit his head. Gave him a brain injury and post-concussion syndrome. He's not worked since and still struggles with it every day although it's much better than it was (the first six months were hell). He may never work again. Definitely wasn't part of the plan.

@Turnedouttoes

Being emetophobic

I try not to let it affect me and still live a normal life but it’s still this constant anxiety in the back of my head that stops me enjoying things as much as I used to.

It also caused me to spend a lot of money on hypnotherapy which didn’t work at all!

Turnedout I sympathise. Emetophobia spoils so many things.

Exactly the same as @GooodMythicalMorning. Anxiety. Have always been happy, well and in control but suddenly became very unwell with anxiety (couldn't function, vomiting, uncoordinated limbs, insomnia, chest pain, depressed feelings) at the end of May. I'm doing fine now again but it totally shocked me as an experience. And frankly I'm left a bit more scared and unsure of myself than I've ever been before.

middleager · 21/08/2020 08:19

Having children triggered an anxiety in me that has taken over my life. I never had anxiety before and now it feels like a monster that consumes me (sorry for the drama).

Maybe it was having twins, with a high risk pregnancy that kept me on edge and then caring for two newborns, but children have made me a nervous wreck.

YouJustDoYou · 21/08/2020 08:25

My dad dying suddenly when I was 19 and then my grandmother (his mother) developing severe Alzeihmers not long after and it being down to me to get her help and look after her. Finding out my beloved, adored fiance, whom everyone said was jyst the perfwvt gentleman, so kind etc had been sticking his dick in other women for several years. Stuff like that.

labazsisgoingmad · 21/08/2020 08:54

i always said i would never be bigger than my mum. she was an 18 and always on a diet life was miserable for her. i spent 5 years at SW and only got to a 16 from an 18 as i found the food so awful. now i am a size 22 and miserable as sin.
covid as lots have said
having psychological problems; i never thought the abuse and rapes i suffered from the age of 6 until about 6 years ago would impact so heavily on me. i am just getting over a bad breakdown about 6 months ago which changed the dynamics for me and my partner. i still thank god he came home the one day as i was all set to hang myself got it all ready was about to do it when he walked in the door.

Varenne · 21/08/2020 09:15

Anxiety. I don't know where it came from but it just sort of happened and has now become a thing for me in the last few years. It has almost ended my relationship several times (including last night) and I'm now almost completely alone. COVID definitely made it worse. I don't tell anyone I have it as I've always been very "stiff upper lip" - I absolutely chuffing hate who it's turned me into. Ugh!

Trauma, the after effects

aToadOnTheWhole · 21/08/2020 09:49
@IDontUnderstandWhatHesDoing have you ever tried metformin for your pcos? I was the same and it's really helped me.
Was also about to suggest this. Well, I took myo-inositol and it made a huge difference for me.

@Mashingthecompost Yes, balance can be weird at times. As a kid I was clumsy, I now realise this was more the condition. Back in the 70s I was diagnosed with growing pains. It went away to some extent during my twenties so I believed it probably was growing pains.
I visit California a lot and it’s a different ball game. Pain is so much less and more manageable, but then I’m always worse in winter in the uk.

I also never realised my stomach issues and acid reflux were a side effect either until fairly recently. I don’t drink and I’m a pretty average size so that helps. Problem is the vicious circle that you need to exercise but it causes too much pain to do it. Cycling and climbing kills my knees and I detest swimming so walking is probably the best for me. Everyone suggests Pilates as well but didn’t find that helped.

It’s a shame the condition is so misunderstood

TheNemesisOfLame

Aw you do have some awful health problems there, don't you?

monkeyonthetable · 22/08/2020 14:31

I'm intrigued by the chorus of objection to Skechers. They were recommended for me on a site specifically for sufferers of plantar fasciitis and are the only shoes I can bear to wear when it gets really bad.

What shoes are recommended for plantar fasciitis?

Paranoidmarvin · 22/08/2020 16:22

@monkeyonthetable I’m the same. They are the only ones I can wear. I have realised though that’s I have better feet when I have shoes that don’t have a hard sole. As long as the sole is bendy I can wear them. That tends to be mostly sketchers.

HazelBite · 22/08/2020 17:23

*@JadesRollerDisco"
snap I can't believe the effect trauma has had on my physical health, my "peace of mind" is gone, and for the first time in my 60 odd years on this earth I am suffering from depression.

IamPickleRick · 22/08/2020 17:30

Epilepsy, preeclampsia and apparently I’ve got iron overload now ffs Confused

Deadringer · 22/08/2020 17:58

My bastard knees.

hotstepper4 · 22/08/2020 18:18

My health plummeted when I hit 30. I had a complete mental breakdown and have never been the same. Auto immune mainly but the most life changing has been the tinnitus that has plagued me for the last 6 years. I've lost count

longtimemarried · 22/08/2020 18:29

A few weeks before our moving date my husband died, he had previously been in good health. So now I am in my new home, alone, and wondering what the future has in store for me.

monkeyonthetable · 23/08/2020 08:11

@longtimemarried - what an awful thing to happen to you. I am so sorry. The two most stressful aspects of life in a few weeks. I hope you have plenty of support irl, and that you are able to take care of yourself in practical ways - eating, sleeping, etc. Thinking of you. Brew Flowers

longtimemarried · 23/08/2020 09:59

Thank you Monkeyonthetable, sometimes in life you have to pick yourself up, dust yourself down, look around and realise there are others worse off than yourself. I hope all those who are experiencing pain will get some measure of relief soon
