Do you just veg out in the evenings?

What do you do with your evenings? We are both WFH full time. We have a 3 year old DD who attends childcare. DD goes to bed at 7.30. 8-10pm I veg out of the sofa. Am I lazy or is this normal?

I clean, write to do lists, make sure everything is organised and good to go for the morning/next few days and then veg all night. I don't do anything exciting unless it's a planned evening out.

LongPauseNoReply · 18/08/2020 21:08

I’m actively trying not to. I do yoga, read a bit, listen to music or journal.

PennyDreadfuI · 18/08/2020 21:10

Play guitar mainly, or read, before dinner. We usually eat at about 8.30pm and after that it's whatever box set we're currently bingeing on or a film.

I put my pjs on when 3yo goes to bed at 7.30. Pretty much always dinner then tv time. The odd game of scrabble.

Sexnotgender · 18/08/2020 21:12

Tonight, put DS to bed. Went for a run and then walked the dogs.

MuppetBabi · 18/08/2020 21:13

Absolutely! I plant on the sofa while DH does bedtime and I don't move again until bedtime! Netflix or scrolling on my phone is the order of the evening!

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 18/08/2020 21:14

my kids are all asleep by 7.30pm generally we have dinner if we havent eaten with the kids, wash up, have a quick tidy and then either watch something on the tv together or one of us watches tv and the other reads. 9.30pm one of us takes the dog out then bed at 10/10.30pm

Samiad85 · 18/08/2020 21:16

Yep 3 year old goes to bed at 7:30, I either veg out on the sofa or have a bath and get straight in bed and watch tv there.
We both work full time and dd goes to nursery.
I go to the gym straight from work twice a week (4pm-5pm) but other than that pretty inactive in the evenings

formerbabe · 18/08/2020 21:16

I lift weights, bake croissants for the morning and am learning a new language.

Nah, not really...I clear up after dinner, watch tv and go on mumsnet

Humbersider · 18/08/2020 21:18

Sofa, kindle, whisky.
Every night.

ReallySpicyCurry · 18/08/2020 21:19

Yes, but it's a recent thing since pregnancy and doing my back in. I got really sick of myself sitting on my arse and scrolling. I used to be a lot busier - two evenings a week I had a volunteer role, then I'd usually go a walk or run once or twice on my own or with friends, or I'd bake, read and craft. Trying to get back into it tbh

SpeedofaSloth · 18/08/2020 21:19

Given the chance, yes.
Cricket and football have started again and swimming is next, so the kids activities will put paid to that soon enough.

Jamhandprints · 18/08/2020 21:20

When the kids are in bed, normally by 8.30 its sofa and TV for me...but not for long as I fall asleep quite quickly!

mynameiscalypso · 18/08/2020 21:21

Totally. DS is normally in bed by 7.30. We have dinner, tidy up and watch tv/read. I'll sometimes have a bath. I keep meaning to do more with my evenings and then it gets to 10pm and I'm so knackered that I just fall into bed.

vanillandhoney · 18/08/2020 21:22

I do a mixture of the following:

Housework
Play with the dog
Watch TV or a movie
Cook and eat dinner
Read
Play video games
Mess about online

Occasionally I have an evening job (I'm a dog walker/pet sitter) so will pop out and do that as well, or do invoices for clients while watching Netflix.

DH does similar really, except some nights he paints, goes for a bike ride or does the gym instead of vegging out. I do my exercise in the morning so evenings are generally my chill out time Smile

WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat · 18/08/2020 21:24

No we order a take-away so we veg in.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 18/08/2020 21:40

Usually just pottering around - TV, some housework, roaming around the Internet, reading, getting stuff organised for work in the morning. Currently DP is in the spare room listening to a podcast, and I am watching the Yorkshire Farm in the living room with the cat.

LioneIRichTea · 18/08/2020 21:45

I could pretend I have some rock and roll lifestyle but I’m a bit of a house cat really, even more so during lock down.

My evening routine tonight was:
As always, post work shower (WFH - I find it’s a good way to wash the day off.) I changed into fresh PJs then cooked tea whilst DP vacuumed and hung laundry up and then the eve was ours (no kids, all done by half 5)

It’s raining heavy so tonight DP played on his guitar while I did some online window shopping (housey stuff) and Mumsnet. Then we watched Guardians of the Galaxy and had a drink (bramble gin) and I am now watching What we do in the Shadows with a cuppa whilst also writing this post and DP is having an online game of COD with some work colleagues. I have one of those nose strips on for black heads and I’ve left it on too long so going to try and get it off without removing all my nose skin then once this episode has finished probably curl up in bed with my Kindle.

Riveting right? 😆🙈

BarbedBloom · 18/08/2020 21:51

I am writing a book but we don't have any children

Oly4 · 18/08/2020 21:55

Yep, TV and reading every evening. It’s the only me time I get!

Bookaholic73 · 18/08/2020 21:56

We often go out walking for an hour or 2, or explore a local town.
But we have teenagers, so are able to leave the house.

Quackersandcheese3 · 18/08/2020 21:59

I usually have a couple of jobs to do, read , watch tv, bit of yoga sometimes.

blue25 · 18/08/2020 22:01

Sometimes we watch a film. Other nights we’ll go for a walk with a pub garden stop. Rainy nights we’ll read or play cards.

Janaih · 18/08/2020 22:02

Ooh I would love an evening walk with dh.

VelvetTrews · 18/08/2020 22:05

Oh so jealous. Once I finally wrestle dc to bed I always have work to catch up on. Usually do at least an hour. If it’s not work then it’s other chores like washing or online shopping or researching holidays/investments/cars/home improvements (all good but sometimes i would just love to zonk out on the sofa).
Phone scrolling or reading once I’m finally in bed!
