What do you do with your evenings? We are both WFH full time. We have a 3 year old DD who attends childcare. DD goes to bed at 7.30. 8-10pm I veg out of the sofa. Am I lazy or is this normal?

We hardly ever just sit, unless we're watching a family movie or something. Usually we're all up and down and doing stuff like house jobs/DIY/playing with the kids etc. We have the tv on in the kitchen when we're cooking and cleaning though.

tinkerbellvspredator · 18/08/2020 22:10

Yep, totally vegged lazyarses at my house.

Normally I'd have 1-2 evenings at a hobby, and maybe uo to 1 other evening doing something else / work drinks / kid activity or similar. But at the moment it's TV every single night (sometimes read for a bit) think I need to change that.

10 mile run most evenings, an academic MOOC and cook an elaborate vegan meal.

Yeah right.....................

I work every evening in term time from after the toddler goes to bed at 7 for about three hours. This is on the sofa though, with my laptop on my knees, so DP doesn’t forget I exist!

In the holidays I work on the toddler’s nursery day, and spend my evenings tiredly sitting on the sofa and achieving bigger all 🤦🏻‍♀️

wishfultinkerer · 18/08/2020 22:24

People are so industrious! After a full day of WFH I watch Netflix sometimes with a G & T in my hand. Even leave the dishes.

Littleposh · 18/08/2020 22:24

I try to do something vaguely useful while the kids make tea but afterwards it's all I can manage to make a brew and dunk chocolate digestives in it

ChavvySexPond · 18/08/2020 22:25

We cook, eat, chat, clean up, (ish) maybe watch something altogether some nights, and other nights do our own thing. weeknights I'll slope off for a bath by 9.30, feed the cats their supper and get gratefully into bed by 10.30. Quick check to see if the government is sneaking any announcements out on Twitter, bit of Kindle... zzz

Newhere321 · 18/08/2020 22:40

If we aren’t seeing friends I cook, we eat dinner together, he clears up and then we spend most of the evening on the sofa! He plays COD, I watch stuff on my phone/scroll. Usually in bed by 10pm. Not good really!

EinsteinaGogo · 18/08/2020 22:49

@formerbabe

I lift weights, bake croissants for the morning and am learning a new language.

Nah, not really...I clear up after dinner, watch tv and go on mumsnet

😂😂😂

Brilliant!

If I’m feeling up to it (not been feeling well for months) we head to the beach with Dd, 2, to swim and watch the sunset. Or we all walk our dog in the woods to the beach by the house, or push Dd on her bike round the block. If staying in, sit/eat outside-bbq or on the hammock.
We live in another country by the beach abd normally (pre covid & illness) we’d be out most nights in summer with Dd..because you can’t not, really..this year’s very different though.
In winter, fire on, pjs on, dinner and not moving for several hours 😂

SaintofBats · 18/08/2020 23:07

Rarely. I don’t care for tv, and just now we’re living in a (temporary) rental that doesn’t have one, plus the WiFi here is so poor it only really works reliably in the little room we both use as an office in the daytime. I write novels on top of a job and tag teaming with DH on looking after DS, so I write at night. Also walk on the beach or in the woods, or go for a swim, and am involved in a community project involving vast and fabulous amounts of slashing and clearing dead undergrowth, and drystonewalling that I dip into in the evenings. Which is great after a day at my desk. If DH goes out to do his stuff, I read.

mindutopia · 18/08/2020 23:27

Normally, we both work, except on Fridays and Saturdays. But relaxing sounds amazing.

marcopront · 19/08/2020 04:57

I'm a teacher so I work in the evenings.

Imissmoominmama · 19/08/2020 05:12

Probably 3 evenings out of 7. The others I might do some paperwork, swim in the river, go for a walk, read, or MN.

I don’t have the attention span for films and such, so sitting down can be harder work than actually doing something.

Suzi888 · 19/08/2020 05:18

No vegging. Walk dog, cook, clean, vacuum, play with 4 year old, gardening, shower. Sometimes glass of wine and film/Netflix. Try to limit activity on a fri /sat night.

relievedlady · 19/08/2020 05:20

My dc are tween and teen age so are generally up and about for the evening here.

Dh works earlies so he goes upto bed early and me and the dc will watch tv,chat and pootle together.
I've normally got a load of washing to fold or dishwasher to unload dogs to feed etc etc.

After being inspired on a thread here earlier I've decided me and older dd and going to start looking into family history in the evenings.

It will be a great hobby to do together especially in the winter nights

Graciebobcat · 19/08/2020 05:31

I don't see what's wrong with this. Doing quiet activities are what regular evenings are for afaic as you wind down slowly for sleep. Anything active/requiring concentration has to be done before about 7.30pm or you've got no chance with me.

NotGenerationAlpha · 19/08/2020 05:36

I do exercises on Les Mills on Demand. Otherwise it’s grocery shopping or other home tasks. Only after these I sit down to TV.
