What do people DO on UK holidays?

We’re sun worshipers, and go abroad for the sun 2-3 times a year. Except this year!
We have a few days off in September, Thurs-Sun, and wouldn’t mind getting away for at least a couple of nights.

I’ve been looking at nice hotels in various UK locations (ie NOT Premier Inn type places) We aren’t super active people who are into bracing walks in the countryside (both have issues with arthritis 🙄), and if we stay in Scotland, any spas, pools etc are no go.

If you were us, where would you go and would you do?
Budget is fairly healthy, and travel by plane or car isn’t an issue

We are currently holidaying in Northumberland. Beautiful beach walks , cafes , pretty towns to visit , castles etc.

I'd do nice towns wandering the streets. Museums, national trust places, just driving and looking at scenery.

If your pleasure is reading by a pool, then you can read by the pool of a nice hotel, or in the lounge or garden. If its raining take your book to a nice coffee shop or pub.

Re reading this thread as I shiver in my catastrophic optimism on my coastal bank holiday weekend away. This is no holiday - thankfully just a weekend. Entertatbut not enjoyable

I love to go away on my own Monday to Friday once a year in the UK and I always find heaps to do. Last year I went to Cardiff, year before York and year before that Edinburgh. I stayed in very nice hotels/B&Bs but made sure I went to other places in the vicinity for a couple of the days I was there. Eg, when in Edinburgh, I went to Berwick upon Tweed which was stunning and for Cardiff, I went to the Brecon Beacons - breathtaking scenery. York (try the Minster) is very near to Harrogate, so I went there.

There are some amazing places in the UK, whether they are coastal, villages, cities - be broadminded and prepared to try stuff you wouldn't normally do and you'll love it.
