Why is Morrisons delivery so shit?

Their in store produce is actually pretty good and very good value but omg the online shopping ... Had problems with them previously when they transferred the online fulfilment from a 3p to the local store and failed to transfer all my favourites, lists etc so stopped using them for a bit because it was such an arseache to get it all set up again. Couldn't get a bean out of them during lockdown although Sainsbury's and Tesco both added us to the priority list. Now things have calmed down tried again this weekend because as I say I do like the food but Christ it's bad. Missing items, squashed bread items, short dates, bruised fruit, defrosted freezer items ... And now they've shut their phone lines.

For a place that has such great physical shops, their online service is surprisingly poor in relation. Why is this?

I stopped using online delivery...I used to use Asda but got utterly pissed off with my shopping always having use by dates that were nearly up so lasted 2-3 days when in store it was 10 days for some. Friends have had similar experiences with other, stores basically using online sales to dump old produce.

bookgirl1982 · 16/08/2020 11:09

We find them good but I think we are still from a warehouse and not a store.

heartsonacake · 16/08/2020 11:16

I found I had that problem with Asda so switched to Morrison’s and I think Morrison’s are far better — longer shelf lives on bread, fruit, perishables etc., the items are packed better and so on.

Morrison’s win my vote.

TheKarenWhoKnocks · 16/08/2020 11:20

Maybe it's just our local store that's shit then.

The Tesco deliveries we've been getting in lockdown have been fine. Quality not as good overall, same as all Tesco shopping, but at least weren't showing up bashed and squashed to fuck (seriously, who puts bread buns under six tins?), defrosted and missing items.

Used to love Morrison’s delivery, then they changed to picking from store. Wouldn’t bother now.
I’ve seen the kids picking/packing the “online shopping” in store and I’m not surprised you have issues!

On the other hand, we did an online shop with Asda whilst on our holiday, I was dreading the quality of product but needs must. I was very impressed.

DGRossetti · 16/08/2020 11:22

They were very late to the online delivery game. I suspect they had a heads-in-sand management team who were waiting for the fad to die out. When they realised they were wrong (by a few years) they panicked and bought any old shit, rather than setting up a project to implement "best practice" from the competition.

We used to shop at Morrisons and were keen for them to go delivery until they refurbished our local megastore to make it less accessible for people in wheelchairs - they're on our naughty step now.

TheKarenWhoKnocks · 16/08/2020 11:27

They actually made the store less accessible? That's terrible. Also very ill thought out - wheelchair users spend money too! Which they now presumably will take elsewhere.

Brendabigbaps Often shop at 4am, do you? And do you always try to belittle people by using their age against them, or is it just those younger than you?

DGRossetti · 16/08/2020 12:06

Yeah, they ripped out all the open-shelved refrigerated units and replaced them with ones you need to open a door to get into. Which isn't possible if you can't stand in the wheelchair. We pointed it out to customer services whose response was "Well we'd open the doors for you if you ask."

I did contact them by phone, email and Facebook 2 years ago. I'll let you know when I hear back.

I bet they paid hundreds of thousands to some agency for the redesign as well.

TheKarenWhoKnocks · 16/08/2020 12:15

That is disgusting. They clearly didn't even think of carrying out any kind of accessibility impact study before doing this. And presumably even now it's been pointed out it's not a priority for them.

Morrisons were always fab, definitely the best of the online supermarkets. Produce was fresh, deliveries on time and rarely any substitutions.
Now there are frequent substitutions and a few weeks ago we were given 3 bags of someone else's shopping instead of our own. Tried to call but was on hold for 45 minutes so just submitted an online refund request (which they processed no problem tbf) but to be missing a quarter of your shop is annoying!

WaffleCash · 16/08/2020 13:06

We used them once during lockdown half the stuff missing from what was already a very limited selection, short dates, subs that couldn't be refused and charged higher price for (theoretically there was link to request a refund but I never found said link). Didn't bother again

SophieB100 · 16/08/2020 13:08

I signed up for Morrisons a month ago, and have had 3 deliveries since then, have now gone back to Sainsbury's.
The first delivery - loads of missing items (onions? - really, no onions?).
The second delivery - less missing items but an hour late. A lot of the food was the weekly shop for elderly parents - and their two loaves of bread and 8 litres of milk had use by dates for the same day. I complained to customer services and they refunded items, which was good.
Third - late and missing items.
Delivery driver was lovely, I felt sorry for him, he said he'd spent all day apologising for lateness, due to being given too many deliveries to do in time provided.
Never had a problem with Sainsbury's.

Burnthurst187 · 16/08/2020 13:16

Not sure where in the country you live but in the midlands Ocado and Morrison's run out of the same warehouse.

Morrison's saw how successful Ocado's set up was and paid to be part of it. Ocado drivers have two sets of uniforms, Ocado and Morrison's. They drive for both

Yes, we are in the Midlands and find Morrison’s delivery to be excellent. It comes in Ocado bags!
BunniesLoveBananas · 16/08/2020 13:20

I order from Morrison's and done find it too bad

It is not unusual for there to be one or two things missing but that's usually something specific like a branded tuna or specific crisps.

Nothing is bruised or defrosted.

Might be your particular store.

QuestionableMouse · 16/08/2020 13:24

It is Morrisons, no apostrophe.

My deliveries with them have been hit or miss too. Last one was fine, the one before half the items were squashed or missing. Not great.

My area has just got Ocado which is nice but I'm struggling to find a delivery slot.

hoorayforharoldlloyd · 16/08/2020 13:37

I've just started with them and they've been good - maybe the area?

BunniesLoveBananas · 16/08/2020 13:47

Not who this is directed at but my phone puts the apostrophe in so probably the same for others.

MaraThonbar · 16/08/2020 14:02

It is Morrisons without an apostrophe (and I’ve had to override my autocorrect to type that) but as a shop set up by a Mr Morrison it should really be Morrison’s, like Sainsbury’s. Boots should also really be Boot’s. Waterstones used to have an apostrophe and dropped it a few years ago.

So yes, Morrisons is technically the correct name of the company but this is technically grammatically incorrect so people using the grammatically correct incorrect version should not be censured Grin.

Fairnair · 22/08/2020 21:21

Morrisons had a deal with Ocado which has now ended/ending, being phased across the country. I had hardly any subs or missing items in approx. 5 years of shopping, but have had some out of date items, missing items, & subs in the last 3 deliveries. I find the more in advance you book the slot the better.

My delivery pass runs out in Oct. probably will not renew it, but can still get the odd delivery if required. Have used Waitrose 3 times recently, & they were very good. A bit expensive for staple items, but their meat & fish are very good quality.

DerbyshireGirly · 22/08/2020 21:27

Ah, the Roving Internet SPAG Police are doing their rounds on Mumsnet today!

Lululemming · 22/08/2020 21:40

I love Morrisons in store and was really pleased when at last they started to deliver in my area. But the online choice is tiny and all of the things I love in store are not available, no bakery stuff, plus only packs of fruit and veg are available (I assume because I am in a warehouse area) so I used my £20 off voucher to buy a load of cat food etc which did arrive beautifully packed, then went back to Asda, which I find good in my area.

Tempusfudgeit · 22/08/2020 22:09

I've never had a problem with Morrisons - on time or early deliveries, friendly, helpful drivers, almost always the things I want in stock or sensible substitutes and best of all ... umpteen free delivery slots (not sure if it's a website glitch but I'm not investigating!) Strange the different experiences across the country.

Holothane · 22/08/2020 22:19

Been with Morrison’s for years I’ve never had a problem I book my slots 3 weeks in advance, before I’m flamed we’re both disabled have no car,
