Universal credit will look at your circumstances and decide if they think you need to look for more work based on that. It’s not like tax credits. If you can show your now financially independent you may be able to get some help depending on your income. If you have more than 16k saved you will not be entitled.

Todaythiscouldbe · 15/08/2020 21:10

Under UC you will be expected to look for full time work or earn the equivalent of a full time nmw job.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 15/08/2020 21:11

Universal Credit is a lot stricter than tax credits. You will be able to claim but due to the ages of your children they will very likely expect you to work more than 16 hours so you might have to look for more work. You won't get any help towards housing costs.

CatToddlerUprising · 15/08/2020 21:13

There isn’t a cut off for hours. If your youngest is 11 you’ll be expected to work 25 hours per week minimum. When the youngest turns 13 it’ll be 35

YerAWizardHarry · 15/08/2020 21:15

Don't listen to people saying you need to earn more. If you earn over £343 a month (which you will on 16hrs) you will be put in the "light touch" group and basically be left alone

lockdownrainbow · 15/08/2020 21:19

I received a payment from universal credit on friday .that I wasn't expecting till a-bit later in the year
Due to move out into a new house with the girls in December
Thought i would start getting in December when i moved out ?

I’m a welfare rights officer. She may well not end up in a light touch group.

Babyroobs · 15/08/2020 22:03

The aim is to be earning 25 x nmw but they rarely enforce it. Do they know you are still living with your ex ? You need to make sure you separate everything. What is happening with the house, will he buy you out ?

If the house is being sold and you end up with more then 16k equity you will not be able to claim Uc at all.
lockdownrainbow · 15/08/2020 22:08

The house not being sold
He is staying in the house
Me and the girls will move to a new house

OP posts:
ExclamationPerfume · 15/08/2020 22:18

If you are joint owners he will need to buy you out.

lockdownrainbow · 15/08/2020 22:18

He is buying me out ?

OP posts:
lockdownrainbow · 15/08/2020 22:19

Basically can you claim universal credit while divorcing but seperated ?

OP posts:
CatToddlerUprising · 15/08/2020 22:20

If he is buying you out- are you buying another place?

ExclamationPerfume · 15/08/2020 22:20

If you get more than £16k then you won't be entitled to any universal credit.

lockdownrainbow · 15/08/2020 22:28

Yes i am as stated above
I don't earn more than 16 k thats why i applied for it i work 16 hours a week £612 a mnth

OP posts:
ExclamationPerfume · 15/08/2020 22:31

The equity you get from the house sale not your earnings.

moveandmove · 15/08/2020 22:31

Its 16k in savings op not 16k salary.

lockdownrainbow · 15/08/2020 22:34

I don't have that much savings

OP posts:
ExclamationPerfume · 15/08/2020 22:35

You will do when your husband buys you out. If this is more than £16k you won't be entitled to universal credit.
