But very necessary right now!

PEGS - as in washing line pegs. I need recommendations, I've usually just gone with cheap ones from Amazon and they don't even last the summer without snapping and breaking. So please, if you have good pegs tell me!

Wooden pegs all the way here. I don't think I've ever had plastic ones.

Trashtara · 13/08/2020 15:34

I'm generally quite eco conscious but for some reason had forgotten wooden pegs existed!

So, which wooden pegs do I buy?

Metal pegs are awesome - we have some called Pincinox. They claim to have lifetime guarantee. We've had ours for a few years now and they are as good as new.

UnfinishedSymphon · 13/08/2020 18:20

So glad I've seen this! My pegs are about 4 years old, just cheap plastic ones but they are starting to break.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 13/08/2020 18:42

I still have the wodden ones I bought when I moved town 36 years ago. Still going strong.

Zaphodsotherhead · 13/08/2020 18:47

Should we open the discussion to allow for 'those who leave their pegs out and those who bring their pegs in'?

I used to have wooden pegs, but leaving them out made them put nasty marks on the washing. I've now got two sorts, the fat ones and some thin ones that I bought in Oz and brought back to Blighty with me. They are fine.

I've also got some older ones that crumble and snap when I hang washing out. I quite like it. I feel like the Incredible Hulk when a peg snaps as I press it...

Another vote for wooden pegs

RUOKHon · 13/08/2020 18:58

I love a boring Mumsnet thread. They’re usually the most informative.

I don’t buy plastic pegs because, environment. But I buy wooden pegs from AMA on and keep them in a pot on my kitchen windowsill. They’ve lasted a good couple of years so far.

RUOKHon · 13/08/2020 18:58

Not AMA! Amazon.

Widdendream77 · 13/08/2020 19:02

Like wooden pegs but we found they marked whites as cba to bring them in so last year invested in lots of metal ones- they are good but have to pinch quite strongly to open which upsets my early arthritis in my thumb Sad but otherwise excellent

leafeater · 13/08/2020 19:13

I just buy my wooden ones at whatever supermarket I'm in?

Freddiesgirl · 13/08/2020 19:13

Ikea! Never had one break!

EBearhug · 13/08/2020 21:12

Obviously those who leave their pegs out are just Wrong. (And that's why it marks stuff, if you left them out. They're fine if you put them back into the peg bag, which is what peg bags were intended for.)

leafeater · 13/08/2020 21:14

I had a lockdown peg bag down for me, very proud 😀

howlathebees · 13/08/2020 21:15

Wooden pegs

leafeater · 13/08/2020 21:15

Sown for me, sorry Grin

Marmite27 · 13/08/2020 21:16

DH has the minky ones

DobbyTheHouseElk · 13/08/2020 21:18

Lakeland. Mine are 20 years old and in constant use. They don’t break and grip well.

I’ve topped them up over the years with other Lakeland ones and they are all fab.

anascrecca · 13/08/2020 21:18

Only wooden pegs in my house but they need to be good quality ones. Spring ones for clothes and dolly pegs for towels and bedding.

WildRosie · 13/08/2020 21:43

My clothes pegs were already in my flat when I bought it twenty years ago. They are the wooden kind with the metal spring and I've probably lost or broken less than ten in my time there. I've also acquired a couple of traditional wooden dolly pegs along the way which are very tough. I won't be buying any more plastic pegs.

Trashtara · 13/08/2020 21:47

Not AMA! Amazon

I was wondering what ask me anything had to do with it! The queen's housekeeper perhaps?!

BTW, is it just an urban myth that travellers/gypsies/nomads make and sell door to door their own pegs ? I've seen them on television, carved wood sections held together with metal strips and nails. They look like they'd last forever.

Trashtara · 13/08/2020 21:50

Should we open the discussion to allow for 'those who leave their pegs out and those who bring their pegs in'?

Definitely.

I always used to putine away but the peg bag broken and 7years later I've still not replaced it

Stainless steel, really great in windy weather with super grip mine are years old. They now come with plastic grips which I'm not keen on but well worth the money.
