possibly the most boring thread on mumsnet

But very necessary right now!

PEGS - as in washing line pegs. I need recommendations, I've usually just gone with cheap ones from Amazon and they don't even last the summer without snapping and breaking. So please, if you have good pegs tell me!

I got some great ones from b&m
They're small and fat, but great grips!
Will try and attach photo, I've just hung bedding out!
I think about £2 a pack

I’ve converted to the Lakeland ones (with the little flower). They’re still going strong a year later and I haven’t broken a single one. I’m much more careful with them, though, and don’t leave them out unless there’s washing hanging (I used to just leave pegs on the line permanently, and they went brittle over time).

katie43210 · 13/08/2020 12:54

I have the same ones posted and agree, I hate flimsy pegs

Defender90 · 13/08/2020 12:55

I have minky ones, and they are really good. Had them a few years now.

ThaGugaBlasta · 13/08/2020 12:55

The chunky Minky ones. They keep thin t-shirts and thick towels equally secure on the line. I love them.

FourEyesGood · 13/08/2020 12:55

These are the ones I mean:

We have the Minky ones, they’re robust.

Oh wow, I did not expect so many responses!

Thank you all.

Those are the ones I have currently, the middle plastic bit keeps falling out. Grrr.

I don't know how you could think a thread on laundry hanging could be the most boring.

I use wooden pegs if possible, because they don't get all brittle and snap in the weather over the years, and if they do break, it's better than throwing out plastic.

But also, plastic pegs often come in different colours, and then there's the thing where I have to have the same colour pegs holding up a single item of clothing. I don't have to worry about that when all the pegs are the same. And I know I don't have to worry about it anyway, but.... I do. And I know from past threads I'm not the only one who is particular about laundry-hanging. Which is why a thread on pegs can't be the most boring ever.

toomanyplants · 13/08/2020 13:21

@Trashtara nooooo!! Oh I hope it was just a dodgy batch, these are like the holy grail of pegs!

sardinesardinia · 13/08/2020 13:43

Another vote for the Lakeland ones linked!

CoffeeWithMyOxygen · 13/08/2020 13:49

Wooden pegs - so much sturdier and eliminates another plastic product from your house!

Look at Wilko.com. I have their soft grip pegs, you get 20 for around a couple of quid, if I remember rightly.

I leave them out on the line over winter and in all weathers and they’re absolutely fine and don’t leave marks on the clothes.

ny20005 · 13/08/2020 13:54

I bought these in Australia 18 years ago & not one has broken. They are amazing !

Wooden ones.

Cheaper, don't leave marks, don't go brittle and snap, and don't leave marks on your clothes.

Mine are years old. I know that, because when the kids were at playschool they took pegs with their names written on to clip their wellies together. Still using those pegs on the line😁

Glitterbiscuits · 13/08/2020 14:19

We need to move to wooden pegs for environmental reasons.
You can wash wooden pegs in a pillow case in the machine too.

SquirrelFan · 13/08/2020 14:20

I knew it would be about pegs! Frankly, I'm very interested. I'm looking for big wooden ones.

An Ikea octopus is great for Things You Might Not Want On Overseen Washing Line.

Minky ones are good

Yes, I have had these pegs for years. Still in good nick.

tenredthings · 13/08/2020 14:54

Don't buy plastic, buy wooden ones. The plastic ones will end up as micro plastics in our land and seas, contaminating our planet and our children's future health.

Meganplays · 13/08/2020 15:06

Always wooden ones. They don’t fade, or snap and last forever. I’m using some that must be 50 years old.
