Why are my teens wearing jumpers?!

Boys 17 & 19 yo. It's 32 degrees and v humid here. Both wearing jeans, Tshirt and hoodies. The sweatshirts have hardly been off all summer but they swear they're comfortable as they are.

Surely that's not normal?

Did they spend all winter in t-shirt and shorts too?
No idea though. Teens are weird.

17 yo ds is like this too. And shorts and tropical shirt in the winter. If he can't find a jumper he wears his dressing gown over everything. Will not be seen dead in winter even on the coldest of days.

Teens! Dd is in a thick cardigan with her hood up, it's 28 degrees (I'm in a summer dress moaning I'm hot)

It must be a teen/fashion thing to wear wildly seasonally inappropriate clothing. You know like they'll never wear a coat to walk to school in winter when it's freezing and/or pouring with rain.

I remember during last year's heatwave that I saw several people wearing big padded furry hooded parka type coats .

Today's fashion surprise was a young woman tripping across the supermarket carpark, her body dressed as if she was going to the gym (leggings and vest) but her feet shod with shoes that would seem more appropriate for a night out (skyscraper heels).

I'm ready for autumn and layers. Perhaps they were being optimistic?

Hope I'm wrong , but worth being aware of . When my teen wore hoodies all the time it was to hide the self-harm scars . Not suggesting this is the case here but she would have random people saying to her "aren't you hot in that?" which would then make her feel even worse. She's much better now , scars are almost gone and today for the first time in years she went out wearing a short sleeved top .

For DS it wouldn't surprise me if it's to hide a flare up of eczema that he doesn't want me to know about in case I try to put cream on him, but as DS1 is the same, no idea really.

My 17 year old lives in hoodies and her dressing gown. Not very long ago I walked in our living room and she was in there with three friends, all in hoodies, with the fire on. It was as if a wall of heat hit me. But I'm mean so I turned it off and opened the windows

Mine's the same. Tried to walk to the shop yesterday in really hot but rainy weather in his massive padded winter coat, although I stopped him and made him swap it for his light summer waterproof. I'm not sure who was most inappropriately dressed for it though - him or his friend who turned up in a t-shirt, shorts and flip-flops and must have got soaked to the skin.

I was lamenting this to my mother the other day, and she had to put down the phone, she was laughing so hard.

Apparently she got what she wished for. Me to have kids like I was. . .

And yet, when it's pissing down with rain, and freezing out, they won't wear a ruddy jacket!

She just about busted a rib at that one. . .

Apparently it's not called a twinset but it massively annoys them when I refer to them as that, so.

Typically ironic youngster behaviour that utterly defies reason, logic, common sense and so on. A few years ago I came across a 20-ish young man dressed in a long black wool coat and one of those silly grey woolly hats that hang half-off the wearer's head. The daft twat was complaining to his chums, 'OMG, you would not believe how cold I am'. Damn right I wouldn't, boy. The temperature was easily 75 F. What an arse. Goodness knows what he was trying to prove.

I was constantly cold as a teenager. Well, actually right up until I had kids. Now I'm usually boiling even when it's not hot. I think pregnancy broke my inner thermostat!

My 13yo dd's upstairs in leggings, hoodie and snuggled under her duvet because "it's not warm"

I find mine laying on the sofa under a blanket when it is 32c outside. Then in winter want to know why I think a jumper would be a good idea.

Is it because their hoody is the only fashionably acceptable piece of clothing that they own? There is a lads who lives by me who is permanently dressed in the same black North Face tracksuit (although it could be a separate hoody and trackies 🤷‍♀️). Come rain or shine, he will be there outside the Spar in his Northface tracksuit.
