But not a costume apparently Grin

Bar the little figures in a bucket, what else can I get?!

Anyone's kids got good army toys?

I had a rather splendid remote control tank as a nipper...

Wheresmycider · 04/08/2020 19:04

Dont forget the little army men with plastic parachutes.

You could also get some camo netting for den building.

elQuintoConyo · 04/08/2020 19:05

Face paints in camouflage colours.
Need gun, if he doesn't have one yet, with a bullet belt!
Pretend knife that retracts.
Big cardboard box you can turn into a tank! That'd look good wrapped!

We got 200 small plastic soldiers from a charity shop for 50p Grin and three years later they're still played with - they aim bayonets at DH while he works, crawl commando style across the kitchen worktops while I'm baking - through the spilt flour Grin hours of fun. DS is nearly 9!

Nerf gun, not need!

idontknow202 · 04/08/2020 19:05

Hi,

My son was had army toys for 6&7th birthdays , he did have a pot of different figures doing different stances, he also had different army vehicles , some jeeps / big cars, tanks, quad bikes, planes and helicopters. He really loved the different aircrafts. He had some little scenery type bits that created hills to hide behind and some fences to keep his troops organised! None of it was huge so he developed a box full of bits he loved to rummage and get a few bits out!
Hope that helps a bit!

LunaLoveFood · 04/08/2020 19:06

Action man !

ChateauMargaux · 04/08/2020 19:07

My daughter wanted some years ago and her wonderful grandparents trawled cat boot sales for an amazing box of action men with quad bikes, tents and even a sledge and snow dogs. Look on Ebay.

FuzzyPuffling · 04/08/2020 19:07

First Aid kit.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 04/08/2020 19:07

This is great! A den building camp kit is excellent we are always in the woods.

Loads of excellent ideas here - will add them all to my list.

Got a few Nerf guns so maybe some camo tape to put on one of them

I know you said no dressing up but B&M do an Army "Special Ops" set, it has a hat and mask, grenades, guns, walkie talkie etc, my DS has the Police one and loves it!

ipswichwitch · 04/08/2020 19:10

My 6yo has asked for a remote control army tank for his birthday. He has nerf guns, and I’ve just got an electronic target from amazon to go with them

AppleKatie · 04/08/2020 19:11

You can get pretend grenades where you pull the ‘pin’ out, Chuck them and they make a noise.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 04/08/2020 19:13

You can get 'night vision' goggles too.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 04/08/2020 19:14

Camo net to make a den in the garden.

Is there an army surplus shop nearby?
Ration pack.
Some Camo clothes to wear in the garden and green / brown facepaint (not proper stuff as it's too oily for young skin)
Torch(surplus shop will have them with different colour filters)
Nerf guns
Toy military vehicles
Binoculars
Compass

I would make a den using the Camo net and cook ration pack food on a camping stove. Make a shooting range for a nerf gun. Camp out in the garden.

TankGirl97 · 04/08/2020 19:14

If you think he could use them, real walkie talkies could be a good addition. And maybe a knot tying book, Bear Grylls style.

BrieAndChilli · 04/08/2020 19:19

dS has some nice walkie talkies - were about £20 on amazon and are camo coloured.

He has a large camp net for making dens

Camo face paint stick

Pen knife - but he’s 9’and only allowed to use it when supervised by DH - it’s out away somewhere safe

Proper compass and local ordnance map? Not strictly army but a good skill to practice ‘manoeuvres’

Can you get some army tank /helicopter toys?

GameSetMatch · 04/08/2020 19:28

There’s a whole half isle of army toys in Smyths, I don’t know the correct name but there’s helicopters, big van things, caves etc. Have a look on Smyths website.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 04/08/2020 19:42

He loves maps. An ordinance survey map is a great idea.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 04/08/2020 19:48

Flint and steel - use under supervision, use some cotton wool dipped in vaseline at first to make it easy to light. Put whatever you are lighting on a baking tray outside away from anything else flammable be especially aware of dry grass at this time of year and have some sand or something to put the fire out. If you collect some small twigs it should keep going long enough to toast a marshmallow or two!

MrsGrindah · 04/08/2020 19:51

Also..make him crack a code, or follow a trail with a map to find his presents! You could smear mud on his face to camouflage him too...

MrsGrindah · 04/08/2020 19:53

And do a bed and drill pack inspection ....

Jarofflies · 04/08/2020 19:55

It's a good investment. My brother and his friends played with their army stuff till they were about 12 (on the quiet of course 😄)

sunshineandshowers21 · 04/08/2020 19:55

the pound shop sells tubs of little plastic soldiers, and each country has a different colour of soldier. my 6 year old plays for hours and hours with them. definitely one of the best things i’ve ever bought!

xolotltezcatlopoca · 04/08/2020 20:00

Just googled army toys, and these images came up. So many choices.
