But not a costume apparently Grin

Bar the little figures in a bucket, what else can I get?!

Anyone's kids got good army toys?

Tanks and vehicles.

Velvet89 · 04/08/2020 20:15

The little toy soilders you can get from Poundland I kid you not I brought them for a little boy (my baby brother) and my mum had brought him loads of other toys, he spent the whole day playing on the stairs with these little soilders (I had no money so had to buy presents from Poundland)

sunshineandshowers21 · 04/08/2020 20:23

@Velvet89 they’re all my little boy plays with! he sets up big battles and plays with them with hours. i’ve never known him to be so quiet 😂

My son had a den building kit at that age, with camo net etc

NC4Now · 04/08/2020 20:27

Mine has loads of little figures which are about Lego sized. You can Aires's them out and play war games with them. If he changes his mind about a costume, my son has one which was made by veterans so it's authentic and kind of nice to support a charity.

FinnyStory · 04/08/2020 20:31

I gave both my DSs the little figures as stocking fillers one Christmas. I was so tight I even bought one £1 bag between them and put an handful in each stocking.

DS2 never had much interest but DS1 played with those figures practically everyday until he was about 13 and is now applying to Sandhurst

He had action man and some accessories - the original ones from Ebay (modern Action man doesn't seem to be a soldier) but they were never used anywhere near as much. As he got older he liked the accurate Airfix figures of different regiments but I think they'd be wasted on a six yo.

Maybe make the present up with some relevant books or Tank Top Trumps or some strategy games.

I think there's a website called kids army store or something similar, based in UK. Have a Google, lots of army related toys.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/08/2020 20:37

When my nephew was army obsessed, things that we got which went down well included:
camo paint
head torch
dog tag
mess tin
dried food
camo snood thing

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/08/2020 20:38

And a bag from the Army and Navy store

My ds1 is now 17 but at that age he asked for similar - army men ! I got him a couple of action men - at that time there were loads of types on eBay - arctic action man with a big furry all in one suit, diver action man and obv solider action man ! You could get loads of outfits and bits and pieces for a couple of quid. He loved them. We also had a really good story book about an action man toy who had all sorts of adventures in his house fighting with different household things. Can’t remember the name sadly !

We’ve had loads of stuff out of Kids Army Shop and it’s been perfect. Much of it went into redecorating his room too.

Swat vest, army vest, we’re really lucky we have a military surplus shop near us with some things in that are appropriate for kids.

Tanks, all tanks, large tanks, the tankier the better! Ditto helicopters.

Camo net, camo tent, den, fantasy box fort.

Ammo tins for ‘secret stuff’ - KAS do a metal one which is small enough for a six year old to carry but contains a fair bit of ‘secret stuff’. Also, having important things to stash means they don’t leave them on the floor where I stand on them in the dark Grin

Dog tags.

Nerf guns (and if a small six, a cool helmet or mask also is a blessing because invariably someone gets hit in the eye). We’ve mostly avoided noisy guns by having nerf guns. Be warned the rocket launcher type ones do, actually hurt.

Army men. Army men with parachutes.

Swat lego men - we got these off ebay I’m sure they’re knock offs.

Playmobil do an AMAZING swat boat, which you can also get a battery waterproof propeller for about £6. Best present last Christmas.

We also got some RAF plaques and medals and ‘bits’ which were great for teaching him about distant relations, their service and their contribution to the Far East campaigns.

Brings back happy memories of DS now 25 who was similarly obsessed with all things 'army' at that age: he's now an officer in the military and gets to play with the real thing every day.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 04/08/2020 21:48

You guys are amazing!!

I've gone from no clue to his entire birthday and Christmas sorted Grin

Rope/paracord. Very useful.
Survival tin.
Map case and compass.
Glowsticks.

DH recently got DDs survival bags- waterproof covers for their sleeping bags so they can camp out without tents. Real army ones are £££... The ones they have are the bright orange emergency ones. Also a decent sleeping bag if he doesn't have one.

Pieceofpurplesky · 04/08/2020 21:54

DS was army obsessed. Walkie talkies, compass, map, binoculars, face paint, toy tanks, soldiers, Helicopter ...

We made him an army box with sand, stones and a mountain (train set one) for his soldiers to battle in.

MrsGrindah · 04/08/2020 22:01

Love the idea of a dog tag!

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 04/08/2020 23:32

Not sure if it's open and not been for years and you might be miles away but we used to go down and watch the tanks at Bovington, my brother later became a tank driver too and did his training there.

It's obviously difficult at the moment but some RAF and Army bases have community open days which he would probably love unfortunately can't see many happening this year but worth keeping an eye out for in future.

Pieceofpurplesky · 05/08/2020 02:39

DS also has a bullet with his name on
