Was driving by a small forest area and I had to slow down to avoid running over two very small animals. They were red and long and skinny. Almost like a fluffy pipe cleaner on legs! Any ideas what they could be?

Stoat or a weasel maybe?

abigailthespiderinthehat · 03/08/2020 19:53

Yes in the Uk. Off to google pictures of weasels. They were very tiny....

You'll be able to tell the difference. One's weaselly identified. The other's stoatally different.

DoingDiddlySquat · 03/08/2020 19:55

Baby weasel😁

HeronLanyon · 03/08/2020 19:55

Sounds like a weasel. I saw one and a stoat just recently. From what I saw they appear to have pretty regular runs (rat runs) like a lot of animals. Saw the weasel 3 different evenings coming through same farm gate to cross the lane. You might be lucky and see them again.
Pipe cleaner. That made me lol. Good description.

DoingDiddlySquat · 03/08/2020 19:58

Might be Pine Martens if youre in Scotland

abigailthespiderinthehat · 03/08/2020 19:58

How can I have got to 41 years of age and never seen a weasel?? BlushI'm assuming that's they must have been... wish I'd got a better look, they were pretty fast!

toomuchpeppapig · 03/08/2020 19:59

HeronLanyon · 03/08/2020 20:00

I’m older and spend a lot of time on rough country mine was a first too.
I thought they moved a lot like a mouse - fast and glide y almost like a Fleeting shadow.
Brill !

Gorgeous bouncy little snake cats.

Voracious little bastards as well.

If you find videos of the babies playing in gardens, you won't come back here unless it's to witter on about how adorable they are.

KitMarlowesCodpieceOfthigh · 03/08/2020 21:00

@toomuchpeppapig THANK YOU. No one else on this thread has appreciated my comedic genius Sad

HeronLanyon · 03/08/2020 21:16

kit don’t get your coat just yet. I too laughed but was too wrapped up in wittering on about MY experience to acknowledge it.
I’ll get my coat (unseemly tussle at coat stand).

InterstellarDrifter · 03/08/2020 21:44

@KitMarlowesCodpieceOfthigh I did but I just had to google pine marten because I’d only vaguely heard of them and assumed they were it’s, like house martins. So, I don’t know if you want my appreciation Hmm

InterstellarDrifter · 03/08/2020 21:45

Stupid autocorrect it’s was meant to say birds

HeronLanyon · 03/08/2020 21:45

Oh that’s interesting that a bird and a mammal are both martins ! Never thought about that before. Off to google ‘Martin’.

Feralkidsatthecampsite · 03/08/2020 21:46

Obviously a little haggis!!
Grin

InterstellarDrifter · 03/08/2020 21:48

@HeronLanyon ones a Martin and the other a marten. Just to confuse further.
