Are you sending your children back to school in August/September

Just that really. I’m sending DD. I feel that she will be safe in her school and they will do their best to accommodate as much of the curriculum as possible.

Thought there were fines if children don't attend school in September?

HeyMicky · 30/07/2020 12:41

Yes. It's mandatory

wishfull888 · 30/07/2020 12:44

Yes, why wouldn't you ?

I'm sending them back. Don't want the fines and need them back in order for me to do my job. I've been coasting for months, but my employer's patience will wear thin soon.

TeenPlusTwenties · 30/07/2020 12:46

DD starting y11. If I can get her in to school and into the classrooms without her freaking out then she'll be going in.

Unless there is someone massively vulnerable in the home, I think more harm will be done mentally to children by them staying home than attending.

Ace1185 · 30/07/2020 12:46

Yes. Don't understand why not really

Jellycatspyjamas · 30/07/2020 12:47

I’m sending mine. No fines in Scotland but there’s no reason not to send them and they really need more structured education.

Rollercoasteride · 30/07/2020 12:48

Our school have said that have to go back, otherwise its unauthorised. We are in England x

VainAbigail · 30/07/2020 12:52

Absolutely.

PMTRex · 30/07/2020 12:55

Absolutely- DS is primary age and has been in holiday club for the last 2 weeks. He's like a different child- happy, playing with his mates, no more tantrums, poor behaviour or excessive demand for screens!

He's usually a happy kid but lockdown has been hard for him (and for us in supporting him- 2 parents working from home whilst trying to homeschool and lol after 2 kids).

Waxonwaxoff0 · 30/07/2020 12:57

It's mandatory, but even if it wasn't, yes I will be.

megletthesecond · 30/07/2020 12:57

Yes. But I'm starting to feel sick with worry. I only hope they wear masks as much as possible.

RosieLemonade · 30/07/2020 13:50

@megletthesecond are your DC in secondary then?

OP posts:
Tuemay · 30/07/2020 13:51

Yes.

It is mandatory and I need to work.

PinkFondantFancy · 30/07/2020 13:53

Yep with bells on. The risk to them is miniscule and I need to work and they need some semblance of a normal life back. They've suffered enough.

glitterelf · 30/07/2020 14:01

Honestly I'm not sure, they may not even open yet just look at the rise in infections across Europe. Before I get any backlash for being on the fence, I've one child going into year 2 but I am a childminder who has worked throughout to support my key worker families. Those families will still need my support through the autumn and winter months, they are relying on me.
If my child goes back to school that will increase the need to self isolate and impact all those other families so I'm left with potentially home educating my child or send her to school and having to self isolate multiple times not just through my daughter being at school but also due to the families I support.
I don't really think anyone can make a decision right now on schools until nearer the time.

LindainLockdown · 30/07/2020 14:02

Yes of course and thankfully to a school that will not force kids to wear a mask, which is against the law anyway.

megletthesecond · 30/07/2020 14:05

@rosielemonade yes, secondary age.

dancemom · 30/07/2020 14:11

Less than 2 weeks here and yes definitely

BogRollBOGOF · 30/07/2020 14:17

I'd have sent them months ago if it had been an option.

DS2 is going to a sports activity tomorrow because it's good for his physical and social wellbeing.

edwinbear · 30/07/2020 14:29

Yes, of course, why on earth not? One starting Y4 and one starting Y7. We're also expected to pay full fees from September, after a 20% discount last term.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 30/07/2020 14:34

Yes. They need to go back.
DH is a keyworker, but we felt it was unfair to send them last term, although in their we could, since I was at home. (The school was struggling with the numbers of keyworker plus 'eligible' year groups). Come September, they will be back.DD2 was becoming very unhappy... We had a lot of tears.

Perhaps some people are worried about the spread of Coronavirus?
Emmacb82 · 30/07/2020 14:53

My ds is starting reception in September and I really hope for his sake that the schools are open and he can have some sort of start to school life. They can’t keep children at home indefinitely and people need to go to work!

MoreListeningLessChatting · 30/07/2020 14:58

Yes our local school academy said it is mandatory.

I am happy that it is safe so yes they are returning.
