As the title. I’m so worried for my job, we’re crossing our fingers that when furlough ends things will pick up for us! So I’m curious, if you’re furloughed - when are you expected back?

Also if you’re currently working from home, when are you expected Back in the office?

Thanks x

Jan at the moment.

Can't wait to get back but suspect it won't the the same at all when we do Sad

Rayne30 · 27/07/2020 20:11

I’ve been furloughed 3weeks on, one week off since the start.
I go back to a mix of WFH and in office next week.
I am pretty convinced my job is still at risk however :(

borisjohnsonsstylist · 27/07/2020 20:49

WFH, it's suited me well. I have no intentions of being office based again.

LockdownLoser · 27/07/2020 20:52

I am due back in September, my team has already gone back but I have children and no access to childcare at the moment ao WFH still.

Angelnix · 27/07/2020 21:24

I've been frontline NHS throughout, husband has WFH since mid March with no plans to return to the office until next year realistically. He has brought all his equipment home, split working from home and being in the office just wouldn't work for him. Thankfully, his employers are incredibly understanding and are allowing him to work from home around my shifts and childcare needs.

LioneIRichTea · 27/07/2020 21:29

Been WFH since middle March. Not expected back until end of the year. Office based Civil Servant in a large open plan office.

FluffyKittensinabasket · 27/07/2020 21:46

Civil service here. Going in one day a week if I have to. Otherwise WFH. The future is all “hot desking hubs” for us and booking a desk by the hour if you need to go in. They’ve realised how much they can save not paying military travel to work costs and electricity.

Thesilkshawl · 27/07/2020 22:00

I am WFH and have been told we will never be allowed to go back as we were. Maybe at most 1 or 2 days a week in the office, but absolutely at most. It’s a money saving thing: they want to shut the big offices.

It is a permanent change - Covid has just provided the cover to push it through.

Senior people - big houses, close to retirement- don’t seem to realise how difficult this will be for those of us working for the next 20 years in our kitchens, bedrooms etc, for house sharers, for single people.

I’m a civil servant in the UK. Our office was very large and made a significant contribution to the lunch time economy in an area where there’s not much else. (All this stuff in the papers about lazy civil servants refusing to go into the office is bitterly ironic- in my department we’re not being allowed to, and we never will be.)

FluffyKittensinabasket · 27/07/2020 22:04

It’s funny that the Daily Mail is reporting that civil servants are being ordered back to work...when we are not. Obviously, some civil servants have been in work all this time because they can’t do their jobs at home. And things like passports and driving licenses etc have to be physically processed. The frothing comments on the DM are fun to read though!

I have a friend who works in a more “interesting” Department and even they have been given laptops to aid in remote working.

nancy75 · 27/07/2020 22:06

Work for a tiny company (kids sports provider - everything done in groups) I will be on furlough until furlough stops, so back to work in November.
Safety is not an issue, huge office & only 2 of us work there. I’m at home because the business had to cancel everything we do for nearly 4 months & even our reopening has been with very very limited numbers - my boss simply can’t afford my wages until he absolutely has to.

caringcarer · 27/07/2020 22:18

DH is a civil servant and has worked from home throughout. I have 2 adult sons who still live at home. 1 was furloughed for 6 weeks then went back to lorry driving. The other still furloughed and works through agency and is worried they won't keep him on after July 31st when they have to contribute to his pay. I wfh all the time so no difference for me except DH is wanting to use my desk in home office. My dd has been told she is losing job on October 31st. She will get 8 years redundancy money though.

m0therofdragons · 27/07/2020 22:25

Dh wfh until Jan when he’s likely to do half and half. I’m going to be wfh two afternoons to allow me to collect dc from school. Cm resigned and after school club is reducing capacity so I have no childcare 2 nights a week. Manager is being great but to be fair I’ve gone above and beyond the last few months.

Marmite27 · 27/07/2020 22:31

@edwinbear

I'm currently WFH for a major bank. We've been told we'll be WFH for the rest of the year and it's unlikely we'll ever go back to being in the office on a FT basis. Probably be something like 2/3 days in the office and the rest WFH.
Exactly this. I’m back office and we were1st out. I’ve been wfh since the first week in March. We’re not needed on site so once they get the people back they won’t, with social distancing there won’t be space for my team.

Suits me at the moment.

AuditAngel · 27/07/2020 22:31

DH is in hospitality, was on furlough, reopened on 4/7, back on usual shift pattern, for now, quieter than usual.

I work for large accountancy firm. Opening about 15 offices next month, not including mine.

I may never go back. My team is virtual, based in West London, Wales, Kent, Edinburgh and the Midlands. We are managing fine remotely. I was offered wfh full time around Christmas, I turned it down!

HansBanans · 27/07/2020 22:33

I've been WFH since the middle of March. Spoke to my boss today and they said they expect it'll be October before I'm back in the office

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 27/07/2020 22:36

WFH and hints came today that we’re not going back until next year.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 27/07/2020 22:38

Our team isn't expected back in until 2021 at least.

ChicCroissant · 27/07/2020 22:45

DH will be working one day a week from next week, and is expected to go into the office to do so (furloughed for the rest of the week).

His boss hates people WFH, but I don't think they've considered how they are going to fit people in to the offices. DH was asked to pick a day so I'm going to be watching with interest to see how it goes!

Cornishandnotaprick · 27/07/2020 22:47

I was un-furloughed 3 weeks ago & just put back on furlough again. Redundancy looms.

icebearforpresident · 27/07/2020 23:13

Worked from home for the first month of lockdown and been on furlough since mid-April. Going back to work, in the office, the second week of August.

Major changes though. Gone from full time to 3 days a week for the foreseeable. members of staff have been made redundant and there’s been a number changes at the top with members of senior management taking early retirement etc. On reflection I think a lot of it would have been coming one way or the other but at the moment I’m just glad to still have a job.

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 27/07/2020 23:26

I'm off furlough now but WFH when I can. They want me back in Sept but I would prefer to WFH. Certain aspects of my job would need me in the office but not for that long. Dreading going back in full time as no one seems to SD as the staff who have worked through lockdown are all in their little bubble, and don't seem to respect that others haven't. I'm the only one wearing a mask to greet visitors etc.

Anchoredowninanchorage · 28/07/2020 00:26

Furlough from end of March, no info at all from employers, small firm. Would love to be wfh 🙁

PurBal · 28/07/2020 08:19

Me: September
DH: never, their company gas been more efficient WFH so it's been decided it's permanent.

EasilyDelighted · 28/07/2020 08:32

I'm half and half at the moment, which kind of suits over the school holidays, my preference would be to be 100% office based in general though. We are a small business and can manage social distancing so hope to be fully back on site in Sept.

I agree that permanent WFH could be a disaster for those in small houses, flatshares, single people trying to establish a social life after uni etc. We have a small house and I have had to use the kitchen table, it in no way compares to having a proper home office.

Letsnotargue · 28/07/2020 09:43

I work for the UK arm of a global company. I was furloughed for 13 weeks April to July. I’m now working at home, and that will probably become permanent as they are looking to update contracts. They are reopening offices but not for our small team. I guess I could find a hot desk somewhere if I needed to but I can’t see that happening.

The company has made redundancies but our team was spared as we had a big restructure last year.
