Feel a wee bit guilty

I accidentally shoplifted a carton of milk Hmm I had it stuffed in the trolley by the babys car seat and didn't realise I hadn't put it on the converbelt with the rest of the shopping until I got back to the car and was getting the baby out. If it hadn't been pissing with rain I would've gone back in to pay for it but id already put the baby in the car and couldn't be bothered faffing about in the rain to go back in to pay for it.
I got home and told ds12 what happened. He said next time you go to the shop you can tell them what happened and pay for it.... But I don't think I will. Would you?

Nope.

Delbelleber · 27/07/2020 13:12

I don't think many people would.

Maybe email them then?

I went back to IKEA once because a tiny little packet of those pads you put on chair legs hadn't been scanned. The man was Hmm when I came back in and told me to go on ahead.

LittleMissRedHat · 27/07/2020 13:40

I would have to email them to cover myself and ease my conscience! I'd be stupidly wracked with guilt otherwise! Grin

Purplelion · 27/07/2020 14:09

I did this with a tub of baby milk a few months ago! Had all my shopping under the buggy and unpacked it all, thought the total was cheap but didn’t think much of it, got home and checked my receipt and realised I hadn’t paid for the milk, as it was a 3.5 mile walk back to Tesco I didn’t own up!

TreacherousPissFlap · 27/07/2020 15:12

For the sake of setting a good example to your 12yo I would definitely make a point of paying for it next time you go in.

I once shoplifted some Duchy Organic mince. The shame of stealing from Prince Charles

Campingintheraintoday · 27/07/2020 15:16

As a dm of a teen you really do need to preserve your morals here.
5 years from now a joy riding teen could throw this back in your face!!
*slightly dramatic I grant you!!
But unless you want to be labelled the family pilferer you need to fess up!!
Imo.

ItWorriesMeThisKindofThing · 27/07/2020 15:18

Well, I would definitely tell the 12yo I had done it

GlitteryFluff · 27/07/2020 15:19

I've done this with yoghurt before. It's my local little shop and I didn't want them to have seen me and think I did it on purpose! I took a photo of the barcode on my phone and the next time I was in there I explained and asked them to scan my photo and add it on to my shopping to pay. Cashier did say I shouldn't have worried but i really didn't want to get branded a shoplifter!

Delbelleber · 27/07/2020 15:28

I think the cashier may have seen the milk when I was leaving because I remember thinking she gave me a funny look. Oops lol

Can you give us a basic description op so we can look out for you on Crimestoppers?!?!

Delbelleber · 27/07/2020 15:55

He's right, of course. Why wouldn't you.

Spied · 27/07/2020 15:59

I'd be annoyed I'd shoplifted milk and not a box of expensive chocolates...

pinkcarpet · 27/07/2020 16:02

I like @GlitteryFluff suggestion. And take your DS with you so he can see what the shop staff say.

CoronaIsShit · 27/07/2020 16:05

Twice in the last few months, I’ve picked up bedding plants at the entrance of my local Tesco, put them in my trolley, then picked up a scanner and forgotten to scan them.

Don’t feel guilty at all I’m afraid to sayWink.

853690525d · 27/07/2020 16:11

That's a pity coronal.

YgritteSnow · 27/07/2020 16:12

No I wouldn't.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 27/07/2020 16:14

I did this right at the beginning of lock down, with a 4 pack of bottled water (put on the pull down bit at the bottom of trolley. I had to go back and rejoin 30 min queue because I knew I’d worry about being accused at a later date or generally just having it play on my mind. The cashier did look quite surprised that I’d bothered.

Staplemaple · 27/07/2020 16:15

It was a genuine mistake, in this case though as your DS mentioned being honest (kudos to him), I would to set a good example to him. Otherwise no.

Batshittery · 27/07/2020 16:17

Don't forget to come back later and update us when the police have been to interview you Grin (do I need to add that I'm joking?)

I usually would go back, but I'm not sure for a pint of milk.

Delbelleber · 27/07/2020 16:24

I'm feeling less guilty as the day goes on and I am very doubtful that I will be owning up to my mistake at any point!

OP posts:
Delbelleber · 27/07/2020 16:25

I'm glad to see it's a fairly common occurrence though lol

You wouldn’t believe the amount of things I have accidentally not paid for in my life. I’ve always gone back to pay afterwards, for my own karma. As pp says, it sets a good example for your children.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 27/07/2020 16:29

I don't believe anyone that says they would go back and pay for it, or email the shop Hmm
