Anyone use Les Mills on demand?

CharlOtteSometime · 26/07/2020 15:01

Just after some reviews really! I'm considering signing up and doing it but before I do so, is it worth it? I plan to do it in a spacious garage with gym mat type flooring - but do I need any equipment? Is there a good range of classes to choose from?

Any feedback appreciated

I’d recommend supporting a local instructor tbh, the self employed group exercise instructors are suffering and most can’t work in gyms with the current space restrictions. These branded things are killing what people had left.

SpeckledFrogsLog · 26/07/2020 15:16

I’ve done it. It’s really good value. Loads of classes to choose from-combat, pump, Sh’bam, RPM, body attack, step, body balance. You don’t need any equipment for some of the workouts but if you want to do pump you’ll need a bar and weights plus hand weights will also be quite useful. I also bought a step. The Les Mills branded equipment is hugely expensive. I bought all mine off Amazon which were fine. There’s also one workout where you use resistance bands but it’s up to you and depends how much you get into it.

I think you can do a 7 day free trial which will give you the chance to get a feel for it.

Nicknacky · 26/07/2020 15:18

I used it for a few classes like attack and combat, I didn’t use it for pump as I don’t have the equipment. But I didn’t really like the format it was filmed and preferred ones I found on YouTube. So I cancelled the free trial.

And like Rayne30 said, I’ve now joined an online localish leisure centre who are doing fab classes online for 10 a month. I’m going to miss it when it stops!

Op, I can give you the fb details if you would like?

You'll need weights for body pump. I've never used the on demand but we have virtual classes at the gym that I use and they are very good, assume it will be the same.

Blondebear123 · 26/07/2020 17:17

Love it been using it for 2 years. Best fitness app about.

Cavagirl · 26/07/2020 17:40

Hey OP, funny I just signed up today for the 30d free trial and found the Les Mills chat in the Health/Exercise section. Loads of info in there from people doing it.
I'm going to give it the free trial & see how I go.

babychange12 · 26/07/2020 17:47

@Cavagirl do you have any details on the 30d trial? Thank you ☺️

Cavagirl · 26/07/2020 18:03

Sure - Sport England did a brilliant round up of loads of free trials etc at the start of lockdown, the link is in there along with a load of others:

I love it. My local gym is still not opening, have about £70 worth of pt vouchers I can’t use.
We used the free trial during lockdown then I bought a spin bike, and les mills sprint is phenomenal.
DH loves body combat- no equipment. I’ve done it a few times and certainly got a sweat on.
We have basic weights and a bar so I also do body pump.
I did a lot of spin a bodypump at the gym, so I knew I would enjoy those.

devildeepbluesea · 26/07/2020 18:10

I love it, I'm in Wales and my gym isn't open yet.

I use it for Pump (have an old barbell, weight plates and step, could.never fork out for real LM stuff), Combat, Bodybalance and Grit. I do at least one thing most days per week, it's excellent value.

CharlOtteSometime · 26/07/2020 21:20

@Rayne30 I don't want a personal trainer though or to go out and join any kind of gym. That wasn't my question

CharlOtteSometime · 26/07/2020 21:21

@Cavagirl thanks for that. I've joined up for the 30 day free trial - looks good!

I love Les Mills. It has been the making of me these past few months. I do it three times a week - alternate between Grit, Body Step (which I used to love when it was fashionable many years ago) and Body Attack. Love the instructors and the music. I started with 30 minute workouts and slowly worked up to the full length workouts for Step and Attack unless I'm short of time.

My shape has changed, as have my fitness levels. DH sometimes does Grit with me and he's noticed that his 5k and 10k times have improved recently. I don't enjoy running or working out in a gym and I find the PT thing too intense so for me this is the best of both worlds - a taught class in the comfort of my own home. Love it.

No need to, these local instructors are online because they can’t return to the gyms right now! You could keep people in a job :)

CharlOtteSometime · 26/07/2020 23:01

@Rayne30 it's not my responsibility to keep people in a job?? What a weird thing to say to someone on a post asking if anyone has tried a very specific online set of classes.

Please do go and take your bizarre virtue signalling elsewhere. You have no idea what contribution I make in my community. Take your weirdness elsewhere please

I love it.

Used to be a David Lloyd member and did Body Balance about 3 times a week. Since lockdown been doing it every morning through the Les Mills app. I feel amazing. Wont go back to DL.

CharlOtteSometime · 26/07/2020 23:05

@Calladia I used to love Step too, back in the day. I'll look that one out on the app!

KickingItSince1966 can I ask which spin bike you bought please and would you recommend?

What the flaming fudge? 😀 You need to calm down, it was a simple recommendation.

Online branded classes can be the demise of hard working self employed Les Mills instructors out there, and many people choose to support local right now in these times. It’s an option, and you don’t have to take it, but it’s good to know your options.

What an over-reaction FFS 🤦‍♀️

CharlOtteSometime · 26/07/2020 23:18

I'm not over reacting at all. Maybe don't hop onto posts with literally no answer to give to the question posed? Any further efforts to get my attention will be ignored.

Was my post invisible? Jeez you have been rude to a poster who has replied to you.

Bigfatpicnic · 26/07/2020 23:23

I signed up about 2 months ago as the gym has been closed and I had got bored of running. I find it really good. You would need equipment for rpm (spin/bike) and pump for sure. I only do ‘no equipment’ workouts as I don’t have any.

At the gym I would normally rotate between attack, combat and occasional pump. I have been doing BA and BC on demand.
However, I have just started to do the hybrid workouts as my youngest DS said he wanted to do them, so we done them together. It’s 15-20mins each of attack/combat/grit/the core program. This has raised my effort in terms of trying a chunk of grit and core which I would never opt to do normally. (doubt I’d last a full grit to be honest, and if I’d have known what it involved I’d probably have swerved it, but as DS pointed out, it’s only 15 mins and if you do it you’ll get fitter💪🏼!)
The 6 week booster challenge things look really good if you are after a bit of structure, a mix of workouts and accountability to yourself.
The Facebook LMOD group is really good for support and advice if you need it.

CharlOtteSometime · 26/07/2020 23:29

@Bigfatpicnic the 6 week thing sounds perfect actually. I think it's structure that I'm looking for.

CharlOtteSometime · 26/07/2020 23:30

@Campervan69 does body balance require any equipment at all? Have you seen good results?

OP posts:
Shopaholic100 · 27/07/2020 08:30

Love it! Mainly do the body combat, Body pump (managed to buy a bar during lockdown) and have tried all of them apart from the bike ones because I don’t have a bike. I wish I’d signed up earlier I can do it anywhere, just mirror it to my Tv and the various lengthened classes mean I just fit in what’s convenient on the day.
