What did you do with your wedding dress?

I got married in 2015 and it was amazing, my dress was lovely but it took up so much space in the wardrobe so I sold it and bought a dog with the money 😊 I don't regret it but I do wonder if when we have kids if I'll regret not having it to show them? However the dog is awesome!

You have good taste, OP, I got married in 2016 in this dress! I wore red shoes though and it rained so it's all stained at the bottom. It's still at my parents' house I think. I'll probably leave it there until they ask me about it! A dog sounds like a sensible swap 🙂

My kids dress up in it Grin

FrugiFan · 24/07/2020 09:44

You can show them pictures. I wouldnt want a huge wedding dress taking up the wardrobe for 20 years to show my kids for 10 minutes some time in the future. I would rather have the money and see the dress used and loved by someone.

My dress was loaned from my aunt who had kept it in an enormous box in her bedroom for 6 years. Afterwards I gave it back to her. She eventually divorced and sold the dress but asked me if I wanted to have it- I said no thanks I didnt want the huge box cluttering up my house.

Tinamou · 24/07/2020 09:45

Mine is in a box in the attic!

JorisBonson · 24/07/2020 09:45

May or may not have got a pint of Guinness down it and may or may not have gone in a skip (after separation)

humphrg2 · 24/07/2020 09:46

I gave mine to a charity that uses the material to make little gowns for babies that are born sleeping. Thought it was a lovely idea

Valkadin · 24/07/2020 09:49

Mine is stored in the attic, been up there’s for 21 years. I sort of had visions of me floating round a decaying house Miss Haversham style in it when old and nipping to Asda in it.

Ragwort · 24/07/2020 09:51

Some charities have Bridal Boutiques so you can donate your dress, someone can buy a dress perhaps better than their 'normal' budget would allow and the money goes to charity.

Iwalkinmyclothing · 24/07/2020 09:52

Nothing, I think it's at my mum's house.

IamMaz · 24/07/2020 09:53

I hired mine so never had this problem.
But I bought my veil [quite long with tiny pearls attached] which is now screwed up in a box somewhere in the loft... Confused

Rememberallball · 24/07/2020 09:54

First marriage (1998) mum made my dress for me and, afterward, she took it apart and used parts of it for an needlework/embroidery course she was doing.

Second wedding in 2015 I bought a dress which isn’t obviously a bridal dress and have worn it a couple of times on cruises. Now in the wardrobe with other cruise/evening dresses waiting for me to be back in shape for it post twins/breastfeeding!!

Thecazelets · 24/07/2020 09:56

Hanging in the wardrobe in the spare room, in the bag it came back from the dry cleaner's in nearly 2 decades ago. Wondering if dd might like it in the future, but won't be offended if not. Mine was a fairly informal wedding though so it's more of a 1950s satin cocktail dress style and doesn't take up much room!

happystory · 24/07/2020 09:58

You'll have the photos to show them. I kept mine and when I went to look at it years later, the little sparkly bits had gone rusty. It's a big thing to store... but I know it's difficult to get rid!

goose124 · 24/07/2020 09:58

mine has been hanging in the wardrobe for 24 years, thinking maybe I should put it in a box and store it away?

Blobby10 · 24/07/2020 10:00

Got married in 1994- typical meringue thing with puffed sleeves (fashionable for that era!) cost £300 from a local shop and it lived in its original bag in the loft for 25 years. no idea why as it was hideous and there was no way I would want my daughter to wear it. Finally took it to Oxfam after divorce and latest house move. It was probably full of moth holes! I have kept the cathedral length veil for my daughter to use if she wants as its really pretty and you would struggle to get anything like it nowadays.

TWAMSWIAO · 24/07/2020 10:00

I’m getting married this year and I’m definitely planning to keep mine.

beguilingeyes · 24/07/2020 10:00

I got married in a red lace dress that I bought thinking I would get some more wear out of it. Of course I havene't worn it since...

ginsparkles · 24/07/2020 10:01

I had it made into a christening gown for my daughter

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 24/07/2020 10:02

good choices - great dress and great dog.
my wedding dress wasn't a wedding dress IYSWIM so I wore it to a few more functions, before getting too fat for it and sending to charity.

Gooseygoosey12345 · 24/07/2020 10:04

Mines in a dress bag laid out under my bed. It's such a waste but I don't know what to do with it. I can't part with it, I love it too much, but my daughter probably won't want it if she marries. I was thinking of taking it apart and making some things out of it

TimeWastingButFun · 24/07/2020 10:04

It's beautiful! But you have the photos and memories 😍 a gorgeous dog.
Mine is in a wedding dress box on a shelf in my wardrobe, but I hardly ever get it out. Two boys and no desire yet for them to dress up in it 😂

snowstorm2012 · 24/07/2020 10:06

Mine is hanging on the back of my bedroom door - it needs cleaning - we got married on 7th March luckily before everything went crazy!

Ingridla · 24/07/2020 10:06

Sold it online 12 months later at the same time I divorced the arsehole I married in it.

Echobelly · 24/07/2020 10:07

Mine's hanging in spare wardrobe space in daughter's room. It's actually just a bridesmaid dress - I didn't want anything big and white - so not a big deal. I wore it once to a party a year or so later, but can't wear it now mainly as I think having 2 kids has made my ribcage a fraction wider (it is a thing, apparently) and it won't zip up. Maybe daughter will wear it one day, though probably not as I have a very small bust and, aged 12, she's already nearly the same up top as me now, so I think is not going to be the same shape at all!

snowstorm2012 · 24/07/2020 10:09

I'm sitting down here but love the way it hangs Smile
