What font is your CV in?

Someone mentioned to me earlier that apparently Times New Roman looks old-fashioned, and doesn't look good on a modern CV?

I know it's different for graphic designers, but for the rest of us, what font do you use? Some must look more professional than others.

I must admit I did once do a double-take when I received a CV in Comic Sans! Luckily that was a one-off.

I do think a serif font looks a bit old fashioned these days (though I also find them easier to read for some reason).

I use helvetica. Simple, elegant.

MulberryPeony · 23/07/2020 18:11

I’ve no clue. At a guess Ariel or TNR whichever was the default in word when I wrote it.

superram · 23/07/2020 18:14

Arias, tnr is awful and I would judge an applicant. A bit like when I was applying for a role where you are voted in and they put everyone’s in arial, tnr and mine in comic sans......

SickOfNorthernExile · 23/07/2020 18:28

Calibri

MaverickDanger · 23/07/2020 18:29

Calibri.

BitOfFun · 23/07/2020 18:30

Interesting article on CV fonts.

allfallsdown · 23/07/2020 18:30

I love Calibri it's my fave font Grin

There’s no apparently about it.

Also most cvs are read on a screen vs printed out, fonts like times new roman are not as easy to read on screen.

My font is a secretWink joking its not, it’s a specialist font i purchased, I just can’t remember the name

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 23/07/2020 18:32

Another vote for Calibri here!

GenevaMaybe · 23/07/2020 18:33

I like helvetica, calibri and arial

tectonicplates · 23/07/2020 18:35

Thank you for this information. I'm definitely going to change mine.

When I received the one in Comic Sans, I wasn't so much judging as thinking WTF!

But it seems like Calibri is very popular here so maybe that's the way to go.

Arial 9.5 dark grey. Clear and easy to read.

HerBigChance · 23/07/2020 18:41

Arial.

Calibri is snippy-looking, I think. Helvetica is great.

PineappleTart · 23/07/2020 18:43

I prefer Ariel. TNR is awful but better printed out rather than read on screen. Someone at my work uses comic sans as their email signature, and they're a manager

Oblomov20 · 23/07/2020 18:44

I don't even know. I better check. And then change it to calibri.

killerofmen · 23/07/2020 18:49

Calibri.

Comic sans is gaining ground in some circles as it's recommended for dyslexic people so could be seen as inclusive. I try to hold my nose when I see it as a result.

HeronLanyon · 23/07/2020 18:52

I’d use Ariel or Calibri I’m self employed - I might send myself my cv in wingding just for laughs !

MorganSeventh · 23/07/2020 18:52

I use a font called Constantia which is a serif font designed to look good both printed and on screen. It's readable but looks more modern than TNR.

HeronLanyon · 23/07/2020 18:54

Comic sans used by many schools for that reason ‘killerofmen’ through world I’ve seen really serious reports to do with bullying/assaults/offending/safeguarding breaches etc written in comic sans - nightmare.
