How do you sign off work emails?

I feel this is a gap in my education! I know how to write a formal letter, but what about emails to people at work you know?

The options I see are:

Best wishes
Regards
Kind regards

All of which feel awkward. Kind regards just appeared about five years into my adult life and I'd not seen it before. I've never much liked it, but that could be associations with the person I first knew to use it! Is it quite normal really?

I usually just go with my name and nothing else. I'm vaguely aware that probably comes across as awkward in itself...

My mil ends her emails with “regards” which cracks me up as it’s what you send a colleague you can’t stand. She can’t stand me so guess it’s right 😁

This question is asked fairly regularly, and the fact this one again is 6 pages long without a real consensus show there is no single 'correct' answer.
'Kind Regards' does seem to be the default one when you can't use anything else, but, like so many others, it seems sort of 'forced' to me, so I feel a bit uncomfortable using it.

As others have said, if I'm asking for something I tend to put "Thanks for your help"; If I'm giving advice / support I tend to put "I hope that helps" or "Best Wishes" or "Don't hesitate to come back to me if you need any further support, or if anything needs clarifying" ; If it is likely to be a developing situation / on-going conversation then I sometimes say "Speak soon"

So much depends on your job role, the culture in your industry, and who you are e-mailing of course.

Kind regards or thanks. If it's a quick email to a colleague which is half a conversation then nothing.
I hate KR or BW someone I emailed replied KR M (his initial) he got a curt "regards" back from me!!
My colleague was annoyed at someone the other say and said "I sent an email to X and I didnt even sign it" Grin so we all knew th depths of his annoyance!!

Kind regards is my default.

I've never been that pissed to actively change my signature to just my name or regards.

Will change to many thanks if I want something.

All the best = I don't want to hear from this email chain again. Please do not send a 'thanks for that' or equivalent just for the last word.

If I haven't emailed in a while, and don't want to sound like I just want something, I might start with 'hope you're well?'...I don't really want a response, especially not an 'and you?'

When I was...new and younger I might have added a seasonal sign off off Kind regards and merry Christmas. But now, I can't be arsed. If anything you'll get in place of 'all the best'

Oh noooo! I often do Best or Best Wishes / i just think Kind Regards sounds soooo fake. The worst is Warmest Regards - sounds like you just peed on their leg 🤣

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 22/07/2020 23:51
