What time does your 9yo go to bed?

I'm wondering if we're sending our 9 yo to bed too early. She generally goes up at 7.30 but reads until 9.

8-8.30. Often reads for a while.

LER83 · 21/07/2020 19:39

Between 8 & 9pm usually, then he can read until whenever he wants, although he normally is asleep by about 9.30. He gets up between 6 & 7am. 8 year old goes up about the same time, but reads until much later, about 10/10.30. She gets up anytime between 7 & 10am! 5 year old is usually sleep for 8pm, he gets up at about 6am.

8 but rarely actually falls asleep until 8.30ish. He gets up at 5.30am on the dot, regardless of what time hes gone to bed!!

Chipsahoy · 21/07/2020 20:00

School time (ha!) he goes up at 8. Right now it's 8.30, sometimes 9!

georgeandthedragon · 21/07/2020 20:04

Up at 7.30, wash and chat / mess until 8, lights out at 9 usually reading until then

Littlefishs · 21/07/2020 20:22

Thank you everybody. I think we will change it to 8.

About 9, then asleep about 10.

MrsPworkingmummy · 21/07/2020 20:44

My DD goes to bed by 9 and she's 8 years old.

Mrsbclinton · 21/07/2020 20:45

About 9 & reads till nearly 10 ish. Relaxed bedtimes for lockdown / summer holidays however when school reopens she will be asleep before 9!

reefedsail · 21/07/2020 20:50

Yep, 8pm here and we plan to change it to 8.30pm when he turns 10 next month. However, he doesn't find it that easy to sleep and is often awake until 9.30ish. Gets up at 6am or before.

He used to have swim squad 7.30- 8.30pm 4 nights a week and slept brilliantly those nights. He gave it up for another sport and hasn't slept as well since.

parietal · 21/07/2020 21:00

8:30 on a school night, 9 in holiday

mejon · 21/07/2020 21:04

I've given up trying to get DD2 to bed any earlier than 9. She'll usually then be playing or 'reading' until 9.45 - sometimes later. She's still up anytime from 6am with no ill-effects.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 21/07/2020 21:05

somewhere between 7.30 (but lights out not until 8pm) and 9, depending on how tired she is. generally 8.30-9 in the holidays.

ihearttc · 21/07/2020 21:26

About 9.30pm on a school night usually. He football trains 4 times a week and it doesn’t finish until 8pm and it’s 30 mins away (we live rurally!) so by the time we are home and he is showered it’s at least 9.30pm

AteAllTheAfterEights · 21/07/2020 21:30

7:30/8 on a school night. 9 if not

FudgeBrownie2019 · 21/07/2020 21:33

DS9 is an odd little thing and needs less sleep than most DC his age. He's always in bed by 9pm and reads til 10pm - he can take up to another hour to drift off. He's always awake at 6am regardless of what time he goes up and is never tired, crotchety or mardy, I honestly think he just thrives on that amount of sleep and always has done. It helps that he's very active and sporty so when he does sleep, he sleeps well.

Fishfingersandwichplease · 21/07/2020 21:50

8 year old in bed by 7.30pm on a school night, 8.30pm/9pm at weekends and non school nights. Is an absolute ratbag when tired though so every time she has a late night, we regret it the next day!!

happypotamus · 21/07/2020 22:14

She is still awake now. She goes to bed as in she should be in bed after I have read a story at about 8pm. She is allowed to read in bed. I then sit by DC2 who won't go to sleep on her own until after 9pm. DH does not usually read his story until after that for some reason. Today I came home from work at 10pm, no one was asleep.

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 21/07/2020 22:14

In theory, 9.30. In practice, often 10 (especially at times like this when there's no specific reason to get up in the morning). She's a night owl, rarely wakes much before 8.

sirfredfredgeorge · 21/07/2020 22:19

Now. Up some time after 10pm, sleep some time after midnight, up 8:30-9am

When school existed it was 30 minutes earlier but not that much different, wakes naturally.

Breathmiller · 21/07/2020 22:21

8.30 is time to do teeth and go upstairs. He then reads for a bit or we chat for 5 minutes but he's usually pretty settled by 9.

He is an early riser. Anything from 5am on a particularly early day to 7.30 once in a blue moon.

We home school all the time so its not as if he has to get up early to get out the door.
He has just started to go at 9.00 on a Friday as a treat. But to be honest he's not good at staying up late. Its like he has an off switch. He's rubbish at staying up for special occasions. Just gets out of sorts

beela · 21/07/2020 22:26

Sometime between 8pm and 9pm. Nearer 9pm at the moment. Reads or listens to music for a bit. Asleep by 9.30, most nights.

He's always up between 6am and 7am no matter what time he goes to sleep.

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 21/07/2020 22:28

My 9 and 6 year olds go to bed at the same time (9 year old is a habitually early riser, no matter when he goes to sleep)

So 7:30 in school time, 8:30 in holidays (unless they seem tired, then earlier) - 9:30 if we've been busy and forgotten to remind them to go to bed (occasionally happens)

Zoflorabore · 21/07/2020 22:29

At the minute it’s late but she sleeps in and I have to wake her up. Dd is 9 and is still up now, she’s watching a film with her dad who is currently furloughed so our whole routine is up the wall.
She is averaging between 11-12 and will wake up around 12 hours later.

We’ve got to start reverting back to earlier bedtimes soon to get her ready for school ( year 5 ) and her best friend’s mum said yesterday that she is the same.

This thread has made me realise how late she goes to bed.
