Opinions on orange walls - Yay or nay?

What do you think about very pale floors and white features but medium orange walls for a fairly open plan living room? To create a warm, cozy, happy vibe?

Like not super bright orange.

This kind of thing:

Nay

BogRollBOGOF · 21/07/2020 15:28

That's lovely if you have the right light quality. The stoney neutrals calm it down nicely.

IveSeenThings · 21/07/2020 15:51

I think you need a lot of light coming into the room to pull it off.

Looks dated to me.
The sort of thing you see on Rightmove and think “would be a lovely space once it’s had a re-paint”

CommunistLegoBloc · 21/07/2020 15:54

Orange is one of my absolute favourite colours and I have yet to see a paint that actually works. It always ends up looking wrong. I'd go for a sunny yellow if you want bright, or accessorise with orange cushions / curtains / plant pots / soft furnishings.

Therollockingrogue · 21/07/2020 15:56

I once read that the colour orange makes you hungry.
With this in mind I’ve always assumed that orange walls would mean instant 10 stone weight gain . So it’s a no from me !

ClaudiaWankleman · 21/07/2020 15:58

Looks dated to me

I think its the polyester cushions and awful sofa that is doing at least some of the dating.

I think orange could be great in a kitchen (terracotta maybe) but is a harder sell in a living room. Could the orange colour come from nice accessories rather than the paint?

EasilyDelighted · 21/07/2020 16:13

Nay, I agree it looks dated and would whatever you accessorised it with.

Beamur · 21/07/2020 16:17

Yay.
But I hate neutrals and white/cream walls. It's colour all the way for me.

SerenityNowwwww · 21/07/2020 16:30

We had an orange bedroom once - a bit too much but I’ve always gone for yellow after that. Not sure if it’s too ‘warm’ for a living room. I prefer a neutral.

JamMakingWannaBe · 21/07/2020 16:50

I love this look - but would brighten it up further with lime green, yellow fuchsia cushions and accessories.
A tropical/ moroccan vibe.

TeaAndHobnob · 21/07/2020 16:54

I really like it. I posted on the other thread recently about orange paint, my sitting room is orange.

Bluesheep8 · 21/07/2020 16:59

It's a nay from me. I hate it Confused

morefun · 21/07/2020 17:02

I love warm orange. Wouldn't use a bright orange unless for a kids' room

totallyyesno · 21/07/2020 17:04

I had it in our kitchen with white units and loved it. Not sure for a living room though - it's not very restful.

LioneIRichTea · 21/07/2020 17:05

You could go very mid century with that colour OP! I do think maybe an accent wall in that colour would look better?

MyTearsAreOnFire · 21/07/2020 17:05

Nay.

This is similar to a cheap Taylor Wimpy rendering Blush

VenusClapTrap · 21/07/2020 17:10

That’s the exact same orange my brother had on his bedroom walls when we were kids. I love it.

AuntyPasta · 21/07/2020 17:11

It’s not an easy colour to use. I found this

www.pinterest.dk/thecolourbox/orange-walls/

and

www.avso.org/interior-design-ideas/paint-walls-paint-ideas-for-orange-wall-design this.

I like the shade in the forth picture on the second link.

IncrediblySadToo · 21/07/2020 17:11

No, it's dated.

It's a pumpkin/squash colour

If you're going to go orange, go ORANGE

Magicbabywaves · 21/07/2020 17:11

I like orange walls, but I wouldn’t team with stone colour. I think you have to go bright, I’ve got an orange wall in the kitchen next to a hot pink and a turquoise wall.

Magicbabywaves · 21/07/2020 17:12

That picture is a gorgeous orange.

Bluntness100 · 21/07/2020 17:15

It’s a no from Me. It needs to be done well to look good and avoid easy jet comparisons.

So a white very modern room /home with one wall a deep burnt orange and very modern accessories would work.

That image just doesn’t I’m sorry.

fairydustandpixies · 21/07/2020 17:17

Reminds me of an ex's house - but he never cleaned or opened the curtains and weighed 27st so maybe eating and orange is a thing! 😂

SwedishEdith · 21/07/2020 17:21

I've been dithering about Dutch Orange (which has just been pointed out to me is a Sainsbury's bag for life colour) but this is reminding me that they are very tiring colours.
