The use of 'Gosh'...in real life?

I've recently seen posters using this on MN yet in real life I don't know anyone using it in speech.

The only person I know who uses it a lot is my Mum's neighbour, in her late 80s, and even as a child I thought it was quite antiquated and '1950s'.

I simply don't know anyone who says that word now.

(and I'm solidly middle class with educated middle class friends, if that makes any difference.)

I have said it a lot more since DS came along. It is my exclamation of choice pre 8pm now.

EBearhug · 18/07/2020 15:15

I use it in speech, mostly when someone tells me something I am not sure how to respond to. I am 48.

noloh1 · 18/07/2020 15:16

I use it in speech and I’m in my thirties. My friends have taken the piss out of me though for saying it Grin

BitOfFun · 18/07/2020 15:16

I say it in real life. And "goodness".

IsMiseMorag · 18/07/2020 15:17

I say it. I sometimes say Jings, as a homegrown alternative to Yikes.

AmethystMoonShine · 18/07/2020 15:17

I use it, I’m 45.

Kelsoooo · 18/07/2020 15:17

I do use it. I detest the use of Jesus/god as in my "Jesus Christ" or "oh my god" they're just....ugh awful.

Toilenstripes · 18/07/2020 15:17

I use it on MN and in real life. Sorry if it bothers you OP! 😆

Kelsoooo · 18/07/2020 15:17

Forgot to say, I'm early 30s

Pieceofpurplesky · 18/07/2020 15:17

I say it in class. And super. Never in real life
"Gosh what a super piece of work"
at home would be
"Fuck me that's awesome"

Allmyfavouritepeople · 18/07/2020 15:17

I say it in my thirties but mostly around children.

labyrinthloafer · 18/07/2020 15:18

I do, I had to wean myself off saying 'god' as I work in a very multicultural workplace and some would find that offensive. I also say cripes.

Tlollj · 18/07/2020 15:18

I use oh my giddy aunt.
My grandson says it too now 😀

Tlollj · 18/07/2020 15:19

I like cripes. I’m starting with that now.

chipshopElvis · 18/07/2020 15:20

I use it, also, golly. Started ironically as a teenager but now use genuinely.

SymbollocksInteractionism · 18/07/2020 15:21

I say jings too, and crivvens!
My DS is obsessed with oor wullie though 😁

MogHog · 18/07/2020 15:22

I work in customer services in a contact centre..i use it all the time at work, as its less offensive than oh god etc
I would never use it day to day though im a tad potty mouthed

orangejuicer · 18/07/2020 15:22

I use it so I don't offend anyone with 'god'. I am late 30s.

thistimelastweek · 18/07/2020 15:23

I say gosh. And golly.
But then, I am in my sixties. I draw the line at crikey and lumme.

princesshollysmagicalwand · 18/07/2020 15:23

I say gosh, and goodness me!

Never did before I became a parent though. I'm 36.

Clymene · 18/07/2020 15:23

I say goodness and gosh all the time. And fuck.

notacooldad · 18/07/2020 15:23

Yeah,I say it.
Even Ds at 21 says it when he is totally exasperated with me as ''Oh my gosh, mother, do you have to be so bloody annoying!!' when Ive done something to wind him up ( usually on purpose!!)😂😂😂

I also say Crikey. Usually at work when I'm exasperated as well with numpty behaviour!!

midsomermurderess · 18/07/2020 15:23

I only ever see it here and it seems to come out of the mouths, from the fingers, of breathlessly prissy posters. I'm not English though. And I think it is very English, much like eg 'cross'.

Fleamaker123 · 18/07/2020 15:23

Yes I say it too, along with

crikey
blimey
bloomin heck
crumbs
jeepers
Lordy me
Flippin 'eck

I could go on!

thistimelastweek · 18/07/2020 15:24

@SymbollocksInteractionism. Do you say ' help ma boab '?
