Buying a house near some flats

Am I being unreasonable in not wanting to buy my next house near some block of flats?
So we have been looking at properties for a while now (abt 6 months). Then came lockdown and we were holed up. Then lockdown was lifted and houses were flying off the shelves. Our offer was accepted on a property we liked just before the last weekend and on Monday we got gazumped.
So back to house hunting, the thing there is only one property that is left for us to consider. But this property is next to a block of 9 flats. After going to view it, we discovered there are more blocks of 6 flats about 5 more. And more so, it's a long cul-de-sac, so 1 way in and out.
The situation is this, I have 3 daughters and I am concerned for their well being. We want to live in the next house we buy for the next 15 years.
My husband thinks i'm being unreasonable. Am I? Am I over thinking this?

How will people living in flats negatively affect your daughters' wellbeing? Confused

Finfintytint · 18/07/2020 13:13

What’s your concern ? Excess traffic?

Etihad · 18/07/2020 13:14

What exactly are you worried about? Does the block of flats appear to be structurally unsound and likely to fall on the house the next time the wind blows in a certain direction?!

I was wondering that too. I thought you were going to say you were worried about parking.
Yawwwwwwwn · 18/07/2020 13:15

We live in a flat. We've bought it. But I tell you what, some of the arseholes who have bought some of the houses by our flat are absolute c*nts (and we are glad the one opposite has put a for sale sign up).

What's your problem with flats, then?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 18/07/2020 13:16

Excuse me? Do you think people who live in flats are feral or something?

You sound like a right snob.

Mumoblue · 18/07/2020 13:16
Hmm

What exactly is your concern for your daughters?

metalkprettyoneday · 18/07/2020 13:18

Don’t get this at all. You need to give more info. Is it because you think flats may have single people or couples rather than families ?

Magicbabywaves · 18/07/2020 13:19

The only thing that would bother me is noise. I looked at a house that backed onto huge block of flats and someone was loudly playing music in the afternoon. Now I’m not saying people in houses don’t do this, but it means there’s more people who might be loud. Other than that what’s the problem?

BearSoFair · 18/07/2020 13:19

Are you implying that problem families or people who are somehow lesser than you live in flats OP? If so, your own attitude will be far more damaging to your daughters than anyone living in the flats!

onalongsabbatical · 18/07/2020 13:19

Reversey McReverseface?

bjoke · 18/07/2020 14:15

I'm worried about too many things that could go wrong. Bad company, crimes, sexual predators etc.

OP posts:
ShalomToYouJackie · 18/07/2020 14:17

Are sexual predators more likely to live in flats then?

Or are you being a snob and looking down on people who live in a smaller property?

Commentutappelles · 18/07/2020 14:17

Twats, thieves and perverts live in houses too.

bjoke · 18/07/2020 14:17

@Waxonwaxoff0
I'm not a snob, I grew up in a block of 24 flats. And the things that we got up too that our parents dare not know about,

Bettysprocker · 18/07/2020 14:18

Where exactly is there a correlation between flats and knife welding maniacs?

tenterden · 18/07/2020 14:19

This has to be a joke, right?

Nobody is actually this thick.

bjoke · 18/07/2020 14:20

So it looks like I'm overthinking this then.
I'm just wondering in this day and age if it is something that a family would consider. To buy or not to buy

Loveinatimeofcovid · 18/07/2020 14:21

I don’t understand. Are you trying to say you don’t want to live next to social housing without actually using the word social housing or something? Most people who live in flat are just young people who are at work all day so hardly company of any sort at all.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 18/07/2020 14:21

You sound like a snob. Do you think all those things you mentioned only happen in flats? Never in houses? Hmm

bjoke · 18/07/2020 14:22

You think I'm thick to consider this?

OP posts:
bjoke · 18/07/2020 14:23

No, there are just more people is all i'm thinking.

OP posts:
Waxonwaxoff0 · 18/07/2020 14:24

@tenterden Sexual predators don't live in houses apparently, only flats.
