Are you all back to normal life now?

Following on from another thread about how there seems to be a huge gap between how people's lifestyles have moved forward from COVID atm I was wondering how 'normal' others lives are now.

We're still shielding so haven't yet been to shops, restaurants, pubs or anywhere busy. We have however been to a safari park where we didn't have to leave the car, a deserted beach, picnics and bike rides in the countryside over the last two weeks and are going camping in a private field next week, I also had a distanced drink in a friend's garden on Thursday for the first time. We're gradually taking a few steps towards normality but are way behind the majority I expect. So really I'm just wondering what life is like out there for you, are your lives pretty much back to the way they were?

Yep it's normal to a point
Apart from my daughter being back at school
I'm furloughed back from 2 jobs , I'm up very early , I'm eating out , I'm in the pub couple times a Week I'm getting takeaways, I'm filling up for petrol, I'm going to my local Tesco with no one at the door sanitizing, the One Way arrows have been removed and I'm off to Brighton weekend of next where theres a beach party ,
My daughter is still not at school though

WitchyMoo · 18/07/2020 18:52

I'm not queuing anymore at Tesco either.. it's about 90% back to normal

JacobReesMogadishu · 18/07/2020 18:59

Not at all. Both me and dh have been told we’re wfh until next year. Dh on 80% of his wage. I should have had a significant pay rise and that was cancelled. The stress factor in my job has increased 10x and I don’t like the new ways of working.

Dd is furloughed still From part time job and won’t be returning to uni in Oct as has had a mental breakdown.

I’m getting online supermarket deliveries as I don’t want to risk big queues.

I can’t meet friends in a cafe for lunch as only 2 households can mix? Normally we’re a group of 4 friends who meet up.

The gym isn’t open and when it does it sounds like it will be shit with minimal classes, minimal spaces in the class.

I haven’t been in a shop and don’t really plan to. I’m sad that I suspect most of the High St will go under in the next year.

InsaneProbably · 18/07/2020 19:03

Not back to normal. Everyone at DH's work is still working from home, with no plans to change that from what I hear. My mental health appointments and usual weekly routines are all still either cancelled or happening over the phone, with no end to that in sight. I've not physically seen my GP (or any other health professional) since March, despite having been quite unwell. Life is still only revolving inbetween our home, the pharmacy and the supermarket.

ilovemyrednosedaymug · 18/07/2020 19:04

I will be working at home full time until September - am self employed though, so clients can take it or leave it if they expect me back before. I can do it all at home, so no reason why anyone should be awkward about it.

I want to go to the zoo, but I do not want to go to a small theme park type place. I want to go for a meal, but in a pub where you have a table for a couple of hours. I don't feel the need to rush out and do these things though.

I do not want to go to the cinema or the theatre. I do not want to go shopping or to the supermarket.

I am high risk, my father has been shielding, so we will just live our lives how it suits us and take small risks if we think it is ok. We have been very lucky in this area, but it is a high tourist area, so things could be very different in a few weeks.

Topseyt · 18/07/2020 19:09

I'm rather glad a couple of weeks ago when Tesco ditched it's pain in the arse one way system.

The last twice I have been there there was no queue outside either, although that system is still in place. I hope they are totally rid of that too before the autumn and winter weather sets in. Customers will certainly not be happy if they have to stand outside in the cold and rain.

EasilyDelighted · 18/07/2020 19:11

Far from normal. Different working hours/days, part WFH, when I am at work we all have to keep apart, no eating lunch together, meetings online. Not being able to stay with grandparents, just day visits amd trying to stay outside. No browsing in shops. No swimming. No liftshares. Only meeting friends in nice weather and repeatedly having to cancel due to rain or sit outside with umbrellas. Having to book ahead for things we'd normally do on impulse such as NT visits.

Chewbecca · 18/07/2020 19:16

Going to a pub or restaurant feels like quite a high risk activity so we haven’t done so yet and will minimise when possible. We do have some plans to eat out in August.

Drivingdownthe101 · 18/07/2020 19:18

I thought up to 6 people from different households could meet up at pubs/restaurants etc?

dancemom · 18/07/2020 19:19

Definitely not. I worked throughout but the majority of my colleagues are still WFH so office still doesn't feel normal.
Dd has no classes or activities and is limited to how much she can do with her friends.
Gyms and pools still closed here so haven't been able to resume that.
Have been out for dinner but limited to meeting friends etc

So although much better than the last few mo this still definitely not normal

annabel85 · 18/07/2020 19:21

No different to lockdown from March except i've now got to wear a mask when doing the weekly shop, so even less normal. I've been WFH and just going out for an hour a day for exercise and buying essentials from the local supermarket.

I've written off the year but waiting to be told i've got to go back in the office.

KoalasandRabbit · 18/07/2020 19:23

Re pubs / restaurants we normally only use on holiday as one ASD child, one vegan so hard to find places both like. We've moved our holiday to Devon from Borneo but probably will avoid mostly the pubs / restaurants other than takeaways as seems an unnecessary risk for little pleasure and not convinced others will SD. We are doing a few outside activities there but one is just our family plus instructor, one is SD and one will be just us and one other family with masks and SD.

AgeLikeWine · 18/07/2020 19:25

Absolutely not.

I’m in a vulnerable group due to asthma, so I am still sticking to strict social distancing. I haven’t been in a pub, restaurant, office, non-food shop, on public transport or in anyone else’s house since March.

ilovemyrednosedaymug · 18/07/2020 19:26

Government guidance is

3.10 Can I go to a pub or restaurant with people I don’t live with?
When eating or drinking out with people you do not live with (and who are not in your support bubble), you should keep to the wider guidance on group sizes: up to two households indoors, and up to either two households or six people from more than two households outdoors.

Gertie75 · 18/07/2020 19:27

Almost normal, both dh & I are working, we've been on holiday to the south west and to a theme park.

We're taking the kids out regularly to the park, our caravan site has reopened, we've met friends at the pub and I go to the supermarket most days.

Only change is I have to wear a mask to shop and for the first time in my life I have money in my bank and some savings.
It's been a real eye opener to realise how much I wasted buying things I didn't need.

MarshaBradyo · 18/07/2020 19:28

The biggies here are Dh wfh and no school so still doesn’t feel normal.

SeaOtterFluff · 18/07/2020 19:29

Pretty much normal here. I've been going out to work throughout, as has DH. DD1 and DS are both back at work (apprentice engineers) and DD2 is having her long summer break after finishing yr11. We've been on holiday as planned in the UK, and have eaten several meals out. We're not social animals anyway, with no family nearby. It's actually quite surprising when I'm reminded that it's not really normal out there!

HumphreyGoodmanswife · 18/07/2020 19:30

We're trying so hard to be 'normal' but since DH is still redundant and I'm a SAHM so we still face no income in a few weeks time, things are far from it. Not helped by the lovely Virgin ignoring all correspondence concerning returning money for 4 international flights Angry.

On the other hand, we are an outdoorsy family so now we're no longer climbing the walls locked inside there are some lovely normal days. We went camping in the Dales for a few days last week and are taking the tent to Derbyshire next week. Being amongst all the lovely fellow walkers felt like bliss. No crowds, no diving out of the way as another human being approached, no masks.. Just family, fresh air and fire pits. Really lifted our moods

itssquidstella · 18/07/2020 19:33

Yep, as normal as possible anyway. Have been on holiday within the UK, eaten in restaurants, been to the pub, stayed with friends and relatives, been to people's house and had them over to ours (inside, not just in the garden), been to the shops etc. I even spent a good few days at school (work) before we broke up for the summer. I'm delighted things are starting to ease up.

I haven't flown yet, I've only been on a bus twice since March, and I haven't got the tube again yet, but that's more because the tube is grim in the summer than through fear of COVID-19!

itssquidstella · 18/07/2020 19:34

Oh, and I've been to the hairdresser and am looking forward to getting a wax and pedicure at the beautician next week :)

HalzTangz · 18/07/2020 19:35

I've been home working throughout which I find more productive than working in an office, zero interruptions means I get more work completed. I am the nominated shopper in the house to so have been hitting supermarkets weekly, and went clothes shopping once when non essentials reopened. I kept my distance from everyone whilst out, using the sanitizers both entering and leaving shops, as well as whilst in a shop (carry my own), haven't seen friends other than on video chats but have seen my dad who is both elderly and immobile, so do his shopping, clean his house etc. I will continue like this until a vaccine is found as I think it's a sensible approach. I also have a 2m stick so I can ensure I'm keeping the correct distance

PMTRex · 18/07/2020 19:41

No - both mine and DPs offices are still closed so we're having to work from home, DCs have not been able to attend school since early March, none of their clubs or sports are back yet so they're pretty bored, teen DS can't meet his gang of mates in the park as usual as there's too many of them to comply with guidelines so they're meeting very rarely on 121 basis and seem to have all lost their confidence and desire to go out at all.

silentpool · 18/07/2020 19:42

I'm still WFH and can't imagine going back. I'm not sure how they will convince staff to get back on crowded London trains (as they will be if we all go back) or to sit in big City offices. I don't think Boris realises how reluctant people are.

I haven't changed much. I go to the big supermarket once a week but haven't ventured far from home. If I want something inbetween, I go to my little supermarket nearby. I think the pace of life is far better and I have no interest in going back to normal.
