Are you washing school uniform every day?

If your child is currently in school, are you washing all of the uniform each day?

My dc Year 9 is in every day for half a day at the moment. The school have informed parents we should wash the uniform each day. I am finding it a pain to dry it.

I would normally wash the school trousers every day but the polo shirt and sweatshirt usually last a second day.

Are we expected to do this in September too?

Yes
Are you not aware of the pandemic?
We are decontaminating she’s and having showers as we come in too

Helspopje · 16/07/2020 17:04

Shoes!

Winegumaddict · 16/07/2020 17:04

We are expected to wash the clothes every day. In reality I have more uniform so DD goes in clean uniform every day but the old one may be still in the wash basket and then goes on when I have a full load. Yes we are continuing this in September based on the email I received earlier.

Yes. They are all wearing PE kit on the basis it dries more quickly. But normal uniform in sept so not sure what I’ll do then.

LoisLittsLover · 16/07/2020 17:05

Dd has fresh clothes each day, yes. We have enough for a fresh set each day, primary uniform is cheap enough to do this luckily.

thelonelymoatedgrange · 16/07/2020 17:05

What a nuisance for schools which have blazers.

fortheloveofcrisps · 16/07/2020 17:05

I asked this question of my secondary school in regards blazers and ties and was told there wasn't a recommendation to wash clothes daily.

Parker231 · 16/07/2020 17:06

Around where we live DC’s are asked not to wear school uniform but clean set of clothes each day and this is likely to continue in September.

RedCatBlueCat · 16/07/2020 17:11

Currently: uniform requirements suspended, own clothes to be worn. Clean every day - saje shoes all the time.

Next year: full uniform expected, with "typical washing routines required" so I will probably do clean trousers and shirt each day, but no way is he having more than one blazer!

labyrinthloafer · 16/07/2020 17:11

In September we are not advised to do this but I will, but what I am doing is buying three sets they go in a box after wear and I will wash two sets on Tues Eve, they dry over Weds and get reworn on Thurs/Fri. Ties I am treating as school equipment and they stay in the bag.

PotteringAlong · 16/07/2020 17:12

No uniform here but clean clothes every day. But no, I’m not washing them every day - if they’re clean I’m keeping them and they’re wearing them at the weekend etc.

It does say on the info from school that full uniform in September to be washed every day but I’ll be honest, that won’t happen.

EsmereldaMargaretNoteSpelling · 16/07/2020 17:16

Secondary here with blazer - we've been told to wash same as we usually would. So that will be clean shirt & trousers every day for us, blazer once a month or so, tie same. Shoes practically never. PE kit once a week.

SomewhereEast · 16/07/2020 17:20

I'm washing uniform every day. I'm very non-anxious about Covid generally (we're defo not a bleaching-our-shopping household, put it like that) but the school have requested it and they've generally been very calm & moderate about everything, so I'm inclined to roll with the things they do specify.

SomewhereEast · 16/07/2020 17:21

Just to add, we do have a dryer though, & we can afford multiple pairs of everything.

EasilyDelighted · 16/07/2020 17:22

We haven't been told yet, but washing a blazer and lined skirt every day isn't practical, neither is buying extra sets.

Unfollowtherules · 16/07/2020 17:25

My dd does strip off and shower as soon as she gets in but she really hates it! How long we can keep that up for I’m not sure.

Fortunately our son doesn't have to wear a blazer, and his uniform needs can be met from the supermarket ranges - so he always has had a completely clean set every day of the week (we keep 6 sets) and during CV19 needed to do nothing different.

However this week, being the last week of the term, we're not even doing that. We are in the glorious week of "wash and throw", where the stripped clothes go straight into the rubbish as they won't fit in September and aren't fit for passing on.

Unfollowtherules · 16/07/2020 17:25

I’ll also get extra uniform for September as I am struggling now.

what are you doing to decontaminate shoes?

ItsJustASimpleLine · 16/07/2020 17:45

I've had DD strip when she comes home and sprayed dettol on her shoes. We get her to wash hands/sanitize. A fresh uniform everyday and the one she strips off goes in the laundry basket and washed with the normal loads.

I'll probably keep up the stripping off when she gets home and fresh uniform each day come September so will stock up on basics at the supermarket.

She's primary school

labyrinthloafer · 16/07/2020 18:14

@GabrielleChanel

what are you doing to decontaminate shoes?
We take them off just outside of the door and leave in a box outside so we don't have to think about it other than that.
MistyIsland · 16/07/2020 18:25

Kids are not in school uniform at the moment. But yes, all clothes are washed daily.

Shows off outside the back door (sprayed with antibacterial stuff) they have at home shoes and school shoes (old trainers)

Clothes stripped in the hallway and they go Straight for a shower, clothes are placed in the washing machine and I wash them. Door handles and the hallway is washed down daily.

Same routine for my husband.

Giganticshark · 16/07/2020 18:31

We've always done a new uniform every day. Gets a bit skanky wearing the same one day after day ergh

ThatDamnScientist · 16/07/2020 18:41

Not at school at the minute (year r but school only opened to yr 6). She always wore clean everyday as she is a mucky bugger but it would sit in the laundry basket until I did a wash. Now (or rather September) it will go in the wash as soon as we get in.

DH has always (since this shitshow began) changed at work and it goes in the wash at 60⁰ when he gets in.
