I was furloughed from my office job from 30th March to 1st July. There were 4 BH during that time. Am I entitled to ask for them to be added to my leave so I can now take them at a later date?

I'm struggling to understand the wording on the govt website.

If it's relevant my pay was made up to 100% and I get 30 days leave per year (been there forever so have built up additional days) plus the 8 BH. Bank holidays are not booked off, the office is closed so we just automatically take the day.

As I say I don't think the wording on this subject is clear on the govt website so looking for clarity.

Thank you!

Wow. Maybe you're one of the 3 people at my firm who have exposed themselves as selfish CFs who are all about the take take take attitude. No prizes for guessing who will be at the top of the redundancy list.

bashcrashfall · 16/07/2020 09:01

Not only will you look like a cf but payroll/HR will be quite likely to tell you where to go as the administration of furlough is a complete pain and the rules on bank holidays have changed several times since furlough was invented. (As the government are making it up as they go along and then suddenly realise they have forgotten something. Like all the spring bank holidays.)

This must be a wind up?!

Maybe she’s being made redundant and needs to calculate her payment?

wizzbangfizz · 16/07/2020 09:28

This has got to be a joke

marmiteandcheeseoncrumpetspls · 16/07/2020 09:55

Thank you all so so much. I know that this won't go down well but it's actually a reverse. One of my direct reports have actually asked for this. I am staggered by his sheer cheek and quite hurt if I'm honest.
We don't have a HR department as such so it's down to me to try and figure out the correct answer.
To say he has gone down in my estimation is an understatement. I will never forget it.

Thanks Sassanacs that's really helpful.

Thanks again all, pleased that my thinking is in line with everyone else.

Aren’t reverses against TGs?

ChicCroissant · 16/07/2020 10:02

I also thought reverses were against posting guidelines. And very convenient in some cases where it is a universal no Hmm

OhComeOnJohn · 16/07/2020 10:10

Why post a reverse when you know its against guidelines AND pisses people off?!

ArriettyJones · 16/07/2020 10:13

“I know this won’t go down well [bit I posted it anyway]” does sound suspiciously like posting to goad.

BarbaraofSeville · 16/07/2020 10:15

Why wouldn't you just post it the right way round in the first place?

Or the company pay for some professional HR support for that matter?

Or at least consult official websites like gov.uk, ACAS or HMRC rather than risk wading through contradictory opinions on a chat forum?

Luckily in this case the consensus is pretty clear, but it's often not the case.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 16/07/2020 10:25

Just post the question instead of a bloody reverse.

Unless you just decided it was a reverse when no one agreed with you

Either way, what a waste of time

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 16/07/2020 10:30

Why post it as a reverse instead of simply asking the question in a normal way?

It almost makes me suspicious that it conveniently became a reverse when you realised the way the thread was going ... 🤔

marmiteandcheeseoncrumpetspls · 16/07/2020 10:35

Why post a reverse when you know its against guidelines AND pisses people off?!
I asked for HR advice, I wasn't asking for opinions on the narrative.

I have had a couple of sleepless nights about this - hence the time of my post, so was genuinely looking for advice.

okiedokieme · 16/07/2020 10:45

No, you had the bank holidays, unless they made you come into work???

ArriettyJones · 16/07/2020 10:48

asked for HR advice, I wasn't asking for opinions on the narrative.

Okay. So how did reversing it help? Hmm

OhComeOnJohn · 16/07/2020 10:54

How was posting it as a reverse helping?

If you were genuinely looking for advice, ask for it genuinely..

Mydogisthebestest · 16/07/2020 11:01

Why did you not just say “my report has asked for this, is it allowed?”

MidnightCitrus · 16/07/2020 11:06

FFS - a reverse pisses people off

Lalaok · 16/07/2020 12:32

I’ve worked throughout this whole thing and you’ve had months off and want more????
You must be having a laugh.

Lalaok · 16/07/2020 12:33

Belowwreck · 16/07/2020 12:39

Lol

MrsT1405 · 16/07/2020 12:40

Whatever the moral rights and wrongs ,you could not have gone to work on these days under normal conditions, so you are not entitled to take them off again.

WaffleCash · 16/07/2020 13:04

I came across this thread when I was looking into it, my husband has colleagues who were furloughed on 100% and also given time off as additional leave due to bank holidays.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/employment_issues/3870039-Furloughed-employees-gaining-time-off-in-lieu-for-bank-holidays

Posters there suggest the time should be given back?

MulticolourMophead · 16/07/2020 13:10

I'm still furloughed, and likely will be until September (after which it'll be all hands on deck). I'd completely forgotten about bank holidays, and I assumed that as my pay is topped up to 100% that I won't get them back. Not bothered, since I've had this time off.
